Why Craft Anymore?

Bliz is pretty much giving away champion gear so why are they making crafting like it is some elite hard to get gear. I have been a Blacksmith like 20 years and maxed out all expansions except DF and TWW. The artisan’s acuity is the worst let alone hundreds and hundreds of skill points required and if you put points in the wrong place you’re screwed and can’t make much to level. You used to level up by crafting and learn from the trainer as you go. Elite drops from bosses got you the finer recipes so simple but now. SIGH…

The need to craft is relative to your gear level. Crafting 636 gear is still very useful because you might not get the myth gear you hoped for in your vault.

Crafting 619 gear was helpful early in the season. And even still it’s nice for alts if you have the gold. Since renown is account wide, you basically get 4 enchanted runed things thrown at you so you can craft a 619 weapon and off pieces immediately after hitting 80.

I do it for the free repairs

People paying me to make their 636 gear is merely a bonus

Did you forget that you can craft 636 gear that’s 3 ilvls shy from the tier max?

crafting gear can be bis depending on stats, I personally would much rather have some crafted gear than farm 8 dungeons a week in the hopes that I can get bis stat gear (if it’s even available) The odds are extremely unfavorable, crafted gear is a gift.

As far as why you would actually be a crafter? Early in the expansion I know it’s lucrative if you want to put in the time to advertise, and especially if you have a rare pattern. I know a lot of people made gold cap crafting lariats for example.

At one point I think I was wearing 8 crafted pieces this season. Picking BiS stats means you can really min-max certain breakpoints and diminishing returns.

especially now the cost has gone down for nascent gilded, it’s a no brainer

Yeah that was huge in conjunction with increased crest drops. Only need 3 +12s to craft 636 now instead of 6 +10s.

Please explain that one to me, I really want to know how did you manage that for BS TWW? Breath and tell me without the posturing. It is impossible to brick TWW professions is my stance. Prove me wrong, tell me how you managed that?

You can do 8’s to craft 636 gear.

Crafted =
Your desired secondary stats
only 3 iLvl below max Myth
2 pieces can be embelished = stronger than non embelished max lvl Myth.
Dont need to wait for vault and/or Myth raid drop.
Can be easily farmed with M+8.

I dont see many negatives.

When i saw how much it was to have my druid baton recrafted on another server from my crafting alts, I realized it’s really worth it to craft your own gear to save the gold. But that takes time and not everyone has it to grind out multiple professions.

They’ve made it too fustrating at 4-5 months in to max your professions. They need to ease up the reins and maybe add some world crafting quests? I know they had them in Legion and BFA. Throw us a bone here.

Honestly, I’ve never felt that crafting was ever done well in WoW.

It’s just a boring system.

For me crafting has just been another source of transmogs.

I don’t like the new system, or bop mats/gear. All mats should be boe and all crafted gear should be as well.

The only BoP mats I recall are ones that are directly used for player power this expansion, those being sparks and crests. There’s good reason that those aren’t sellable on the AH as well

Crafting is an end in itself for me. The irony is that I’m now focusing so much of my time and materials on patron orders that I’m not even crafting things for myself nor am I out getting the gear from the content available.

The two sides of the crafting argument.

Why can’t I craft even more gear?

And

Why can’t I just upgrade drops with crests I hate crafting

You can get extremely good 636 gear with crests, which is almost ilvl cap. Very good for filling in slots that you need, or getting a weapon early.

The 619 stuff you can craft is also nice for that same reason.

I craft for alts/self-sufficiency. Every one of my alts gets 7 pieces of 528 gear at 71 with stats of my choosing. At 80, they get a few 619 pieces right off the bat, too.

I’ve been a mostly DIY player for a while and it works for me. To each their own, though.

I think one of the problems is that farming acuity outside of the gathering professions has largely turned into a gold sink through npc orders and that gold sink is pretty steep.

I have several crafters that I maintain and they don’t turn a profit without devoting a lot of energy to monitoring trade and sitting in dornagol which is time you’re not playing the game.

The alternative is to use the gathering professions to grind acuity and with the continuous decrease in value of those materials it’s a less and less attractive proposition for gold making.

I tend to make more gold through the one off BOE I get from heroic raid every other week combined with quests and selling materials I pick up from the purple dirt clumps and kaheti slumshark. Though with the content slump leading to an economic slump and the sheer volume of bot farmed materials flooding into the AH, those sources are quickly diminishing as well.
