Why Craft Anymore?

Spending the time investing in acquiring profession knowledge pointa is going to pay off in dividends for season 2-3-4.

Many of us who have been dedicated week after week are getting close to maxing out all the profession trees.

Its much better to be prepared for new crafts and additions in the following year.

When you craft a piece of gear to any ilvl that is higher than your equipped piece, you dramatically decrease the amount of crests + valor stones needed to hit ilvl in that slot. That’s another bonus

im finding value in crafting by doing work orders for my guild or sending myself work orders for alts

i crafted some of that pvp gear where you can only equip 2 of em, other than that or engy related tinkers/etc i don’t craft much these days.

DF made me stop crafting, I only make stuff I want for specific Tmog purposes from the old expansion when a new expansion comes out. since mostly all higher quality stuff is bop anyways and can’t be sold on the AH (thought that was going to change too). I’m NOT a fan at all of the new crafting system as it went from bad to worse. It’s been years since I have looked for anything “crafted” from the AH. I don’t participate in the “ordering” system after all the horror stories either

I haven’t played the profession game in a decade at least.

I may pick up herbing for a bit at the beginning of an expansion but that’s usually it.

Okay, How many skill points to make each piece of gear for a blacksmith? it’s hundreds to make it 5 star, correct?

With 120, I believe you can use concentration to make each armor at 636. You need a bit further investment for weapons but you certainly don’t need maxxed knowledge for a 636 craft

“Why craft 636 gear when Blizzard is giving away 600 gear?” - The OP.

Crafted gear scales higher than Champion.
Embellishments.
Pick your stats.
250 flightstones for a slot to go all the way up to 636.
Next season crafted gear will be better than any of the current end-of-season catchup gear.

Repeat infinitely.

Bonus point: Once you max out on knowledge you won’t need anymore for the rest of the expansion, it just turns into a currency for free materials.

I quit crafting in DF. The first time ever I did not max out professions. I will not max them in TWW in either. I don’t need another job.

Here are a few of the reasons I do it:

It’s easier to customize your own gear.
Embellishments can be quite powerful.
The ilevel is competitive with dropped gear, especially since you can pick the itemization.
You can make money.

Im running all professions across my alts. You just target what you want and add points to increase skill. I can make 5 star, POW 2.0, a couple of swords with BS, many profession tools and accessories, anything I need on my mains.

It’s really all about patron crafting orders, do all you can every Tuesday along with the profession weeklies. They give KP or Acuity with other various nifty skill kickers. TWW is so much improved over DF, all because of patron orders.

If you max out the renown track you can get access to 4 Enchanted Runed Crests for every alt. That’s four slots that you can boost up to 619 for even the scrubbiest of alts.

Champion track gear is nice and all but will still require crests and valorstones to upgrade to 619. Being able to save on crests with four slots is quite helpful for quickly boosting up an alt.

we need a “low and slow” guide for all professions similar to what you said. e.g. for me I leveled engineering just by doing invents for a month or so. When I got into leatherworking though, I wasn’t sure if there was an easy path if I took my time.

I just want to add even if you can get Myth gear, being able to embellish two pieces of crafted gear often overtakes the lack of three added ilvls.

That, and I feel I can get the crests to just craft the stuff instead of slamming my face into endless high end M+ runs with a lot less stress.

Unless you are crafting yourself some 636… crafting is meaningless.

Crafting, aside from some near endgame gear, has been trash for a while. I don’t even bother anymore.

I craft for transmogs, my hubby and myself, and my guild.

It also helps that I’m a completionist. Which is why I haven’t stopped playing after hitting max level with multiple toons.

I just started jewel crafting so I can make mounts and battle pets. So, I recommend changing things up to learn new things.

I’ve noticed for a lot of things it’s easier and cheaper to just buy the items from the AH. IMO it’s mainly if you don’t like haggling with people to craft stuff for you then it may be nicer to do it for yourself.
