And there are your restrictions. We already have them. We don’t need more.
Things that impact end game raiding should be flexible… You can RP as you wish.
considering many players have already vocalized that, trolling aside… it’s true. For the players who have been around for years, this is just the natural progression of the game.
The trolls here want to call players like me try-hards or elitist, and neither could be further from the truth. These people are just filled with hate and they want to pass it along. =/
I like the idea of the new system so far. I think it’s one way of trying to get the community back together in a sense. Instead of a player being like, “YAY! I can play all the things!” I want to say it was in one of my Pathfinder books but it was talking about how there is a loss of player grouping when you have that one character that can do all the things. It’s like, why bother playing with you? you can already do everything, you don’t need us.
I think the mistake that this game has taken was that it ruined the community aspect to some degree by letting players just pick whatever spec they wanted at the drop of a dime. I look at things people talked about for support of Classic and wouldn’t you know, the concept of community was brought up. The game became to solo friendly because players could do anything on their own. Maybe it was because the world was to easy, but I think being able to switch specs out to fit whatever need was needed didn’t help.
I agree that community should be brought to the forefront, however the best way to do that is to remove LFD & LFR.
there are some serious drawbacks to that system and there are 100’s of reasons why we have moved away from it.
Not allowing players to swap easily means roles in groups are constantly difficult to fill. In the past, if you didn’t have a tank or heals, you might not raid for the night. Now, a player can easily swap talents and essences and be able to fill a role to help their group. Consider this, if the game was based around a raid that is 20 people deep with 2 tanks, that means there will ALWAYS be a shortage of tanks in 5 mans. Without flexibility, the same is true for healers.
The community aspect of the game was lost as soon as they started merging realms and introduced sharding. There are huge benefits to this clearly. Realms have been dying for a long time and some world content requires groups to complete. While I wish there was a place for server communities like we had in the past, I realize why they don’t work now. I do wish they would limit sharding and cross realm content, but limiting spec choices has nothing to do with community building.
As for as solo content, the same is true here. The problem really started with healers and specs that DIDN’T solo well. Trying to tell a person to player a healer… and… BTW, you can’t kiill anything and ALWAYS need to be in a group to do content honestly sucks. I enjoy playing my healers, but I don’t want to constantly be looking for groups to do basic stuff.
IF, and this is a BIG IF, they reduced the dailies and simplified the game again where all you needed to do was primary end content to get gear (raid, pvp, etc), I wouldn’t mind going back to that system. Everyone gets less healing and healers get less damage. As is, I have HOURS of stuff to do every week just to get by with the basics.
In the end, making it harder to swap roles means less content is going to be completed.
Start doing stuff you enjoy doing with your free time then. This game offers many different things for you.
This is one step closer to having that old-timey RPG feel to it and most of us are thrilled to death. The hype is real!
Nah, maybe for you. Not for all of us.
I enjoy trying out new things.
Why are you so intent on stopping me?
Then why are you so worried about trying out this new idea that Blizzard came up with?
So your saying it will never happen then got it.
Because there’s no parachute.
Blizzard is terrible at game balance, and if they put new things in, I want a parachute in case they screw it up.
Which they probably will.

I can now heal on the fly, as opposed to constantly needing to pug/wait in queue or praying our healers are online.
Our MW monk can now tank on the fly, to avoid the same issues as above.
But sure, being able to adapt to what we have instead of benching someone and sitting in the queue/screening pugs is a detriment.

Because game developers always put in a “parachute” in case their ideas aren’t liked? What?
No, good developers don’t put in ideas their players don’t like, in the first place, at least not when there’s a massive outcry against them.
But Blizzard has always had ivory tower developers who don’t care what the players think. Then subs take a nose-dive and they have the nerve to act surprised.

I am doing the things I enjoy and the players here want to prevent that.
This is one step closer to having that old-timey RPG feel to it and most of us are thrilled to death. The hype is real!
some very vocal people are thrilled. I have yet to talk in game or with any friend of mine who is interested in any of this. most of us have to much fatigue from another system being introduced. systems that prevents us from doing what we enjoy… raid, arena, m+, etc.
Nah, maybe for you. Not for all of us.
this is not a debatable. it’s not an opinion. we are already seeing it now. I saw it first hand raiding at the start of this expansion. lots of guilds are having trouble as is with filling key roles. these systems add another layer of stuff that has to be contended with before players can do the primary content this game offers.
Because despite this being a “meaningful choice” it’ll only last two years or so until the next expac. Your character won’t say kyrian human paladin on the forums or in game(to my knowledge). If it does it won’t in two years. This is more akin to a picking a rep faction to side with and for some reason being locked out of one or two of my talent trees.
You may say that is extreme but really, the path of least resistance from what I’m seeing is: play one character that is a hybrid, lets say paladin. Go kyrian because toll looks good for both holy and prot, but not ret. Whenever my guild needs dps I lose out on a chunk of damage, so instead of playing my paladin I decide to just roll another character instead because why should I damage my guild’s progression with inferior dps when I could easily make a venthyr havoc demon hunter for less effort then repeatedly swapping covenants. And it really is the path of least resistance, blizzard is advertising this expansion as alt friendly with built in catch up mechanics from the start.
I agree i hope blizzard doesn’t cave in this time again.
Except this is a time where they SHOULD cave. Because they’re terrible at balancing things. And does anyone want to get to 60% into a covenant only to see it nerfed so bad you might as well have no covenant at all?
the best way to do that is to remove LFD & LFR.
Add to that a return to individual servers where you got to know people’s reputation.
Counterargument: we should be allowed to switch races and classes between each boss pull so that we never have to play “suboptimally.”
Right? People arguing for us to hotswap between encounters really want us to be able to be optimal at ALL times.
I think I can understand an argument for disliking specific abilities between each covenant for sure. But just pick based on which one you like the best or whatever criteria fits you.And I fully support not making Conduits destroyed when replaced.
I agree i hope blizzard doesn’t cave in this time again.
I think Blizzard hears what the majority of us want and we want a system that adds depth to character progression. I don’t believe they will cave to the few who are against this idea a basic RPG aspect that will finally be added to the game. Many players don’t want WoW to be an RPG, they want to to be more like Fortnite where they can just log on and do what they want then log out. They don’t really want an RPG where you have to earn things for your character.
