How do we even know they are spending millions though?
Iâm pretty sure the second one is there to crack down on the first one.
Also they wouldnât have spent as much money as they did if it was designed to fail. If they wanted it to fail, they wouldâve just slapped the vanilla talents, abilities, itemization, and level cap with the current client and then released it. Also Classic is great for adding in micro-transactions with how time consuming it is. Expect the WoW token to be in the game before the release of Naxx.
Maybe it is not nostalgia but people think classic is the superior game. Just because some people prefer over-optimized, i.e. self-playing, on rails experience with no meaningful/hard decisions doesnât mean classic is nostalgia
Thatâs a good question. Weâd need to consider all variables including the salaries of everyone on the Classic team and the cost of each of these cloud âserversâ that they use these days. Anyone have any insight on the latter?
Also, several big WoW expansions recently have come out at the end of summer/beginning of fall. BfA released on August 14, Legion on August 30, etc. Iâm honestly not even sure what OPâs point is with this one.
You truly dont understand the point of classic whatsoever.
There will be people that will, as you say, tour classic. There will be people that will play it on the side, then you have people who are coming to classic because retail truly doesnt do it for them anymore, and theyre gearing up for classic â full time. Whether theres enough interest to keep the servers running is up to blizzard, but dont be mistaken, there are people strictly playing classic as a stand a lone game, because retail is massively overrated (right now). Classic doesnt have QoL, graphical improvements and plenty of other things, but it had the ingredients to work. âTourist modeâ is downplaying it, i know between 8-12 people myself that quit retail and are picking up a sub only for classic, all of which know and played classic, and up to BFA.
Yep. I know quite a few people that are doing the same. One thing that the OP doesnât understand is that there are a lot of people out there not happy with the current state of the MMO genre. These people stopped playing WOW and other games because the genre has went a direction that they canât stand. I canât tell you how many players in the classic beta were saying, âsoon as this goes live Iâm thru with retail forever.â
I wasnât there for Vanilla(SWG fan to the end), but playing classic beta reminded me of how MMORPGs use to be. You just donât see that type of game anymore because devs these days want to make everything overly simple by pruning away abilities, holding your hand along the journey and God forbid if you have to group up to finish a quest. Im enjoying retail, but I sure do wish the leveling experience was better because itâs far superior in classic.
Oh, and I still play Warcraft 2, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Tropico even though those games are very old. Good games will always stand the test of time
They did say it themselves. They donât care if 10 people play this game or 10 million play.
So in their minds they have nothing to loose. And everything to gain from Classic.
No, thatâs not what I was saying.
I was saying, blizzard was tired of people using their IP, and them having to constantly defend their IP by shutting things down. So they simply made a tourist mode so they would be the ones profitting, and they didnât have to constantly keep shutting down private servers each time it popped up.
Iâm sure there is some nostalgia, or curiosity around old wow. Iâm not one of the people that suffer from that. I know exactly how much of a dumpster fire Wow classic was. There was just simply not many other options at the time.
But if blizzard had to constantly shut down private servers that had nearly 1 million subscribers doesnât that prove your statement about it being an unenjoyable broken buggy old game is false.
You canât say âthe game is old broken, buggy and badâ then say âblizzard had to protect its IP from the hundreds of thousands of players who want to play the gameâ
What is it?
If itâs a broken buggy mess people wouldnât want to play it.
Yet for 5 years now private servers have gone strong without decline.
Clearly this can not be chalked up to mere ânostalgiaâ, there is something there, one of the most incredibly designed games ever built.
Yeah it has some flaws, but really, overall the game is friggin incredible.
The people who nit pick every minor inconvenience while totally ignoring how awesome the actual game is as a whole are clowns with a big chip on their shoulder, likely blizzard shills, a lot of parrots on this board with no critical thinking ability that just parrot every word blizzard says.
I donât believe classic will fail, however the population may dwindle a bit down the road. Like all nostalgia people will come and go, and return again if the option to play is there.
The real area classic has to fail is the community. If people act like elitist jerks and exclude people because theyâre not in their circle of âleetâ players, population will decline quicker. Iâve played other classic releases from other games and itâs like high school as an adult, only nobody grew up.
I think it is smart to not release something summer on Blizzards end. So people can have a hyped summer.
Most private servers modified the game in some way to hide the bad portions of it.
Doesnât change the fact there will be zero updates, classes were a broken mess, bugs were rampant, and end game was mind dullingly boring, and only made difficult due to how horribly balanced classic was, or how many people you -had- to drag along.
Keep looking at it with rose tinted goggles, some people are easily entertained by mediocrity
And yes, by todayâs standards, which is when classic is coming out, classic is a dumpster fire.
15 years ago it was okay, mostly because thatâs what was around at the time, but 15 years later? Nah.
Excuses, excuses and more excuses.
1 more month till you look like an idiot and have to eat your words.
You can get in line with brack and the rest of the âits just nostalgiaâ âyou think you do but you donâtâ crowd once classic releases and vastly surpasses retail.
I wonât eat anything. I wonât have anything to do with classic.
Only reason Iâm even in this thread, is someone posted this stupid thread in GD before it got moved.
Personally, I canât wait for classic to come out, so that all the nostalgia ridden people will go play in their static never changing sandbox and try to talk about how amazing a 15 year old buggy as hell game is.

What?
Doesnât change the fact there will be zero updates,
Well, there will. The game content is opening in phases, much the same as updates.
classes were a broken mess
Weâre playing 1.12, the last patch. Things are the most balanced that vanilla got. Class design philosophy at the time was not for every spec to be equally optimal at all aspects of the game.
bugs were rampant
Blizzard has set out to fix a lot of the bugs, actually. Classic will have a certain amount of âBlizzard polishâ as Mike Morhaime put it.
and end game was mind dullingly boring
That is completely subjective.
Keep looking at it with rose tinted goggles
Canât you people get a new phrase? Oh, try âMandela effectâ, it makes you look intelligent.
hehe a few 100k resubbed to get âbeta invitesâ think that paid the classic team, also there were more viewers of classic beta streams than the mythic invitational. there will be plenty of players that will enjoy it, and there will be others that wonât, blizzard will still thank you for paying your subscription.
I enjoy my memories of the past and love nostalgia but not so much Iâm wanting to relive it. Good or bad. Just who I am and my opinion though.
I know right? Iâd never watch an older movie because it was far better than the remake, or re-read a classic book, or restore a beautiful antique, or anything like that. That stuff is old . New is always better, right?
Unless, itâs not.
its only a 2 year old buggy game using the legion client
I wonât eat anything. I wonât have anything to do with classic.

Canât wait for classic to come out, retails already a dead game, classic will be the finally nail in the coffin.
Gonna be great when the game comes out and everyoneâs talking about how much better it is than retail, and people like you are still logging onto your dead game talking to players across CRZ (since your actual servers a ghost town) still trying to convince yourself classic bad.
I wonât have to convince myself Classic is bad.
I already know for a fact it is, and there isnât anything that can convince me otherwise, because I already know what classic is like. And itâs not held up well over the 15 years.
And now that this threads in the classic forums, being buzzed around by old nostalgia ridden people, I can simply mute it and move on.
Enjoy your broken 15 year old mess.
Guess some people are easily amused by anything.
Blizz has never given any indication that they plan on releasing anything more then Classic, so I wouldnât get my hopes up lol.
Except for when they said theyâre open to it and will see how things go with Classic and that it would be easier to make once they have Classic done.
