I could have sworn sunday was two days ago. Hate to break it to you. Vanilla/classic was buggy.
You donât have an opinion, you have bait. Itâs also not very good bait.
Like, weâre talking week old worms here. They donât even look good.
Oh no. In my opinion youâll have your share in Classic if not more.
So buckle up buttercup. The classic boards could possibly explode in the coming months. Lol.
If Iâm wrong? /shrug. Then call it a success and everyone will go on their merry way.
H
reply to me then. i think its gonna be so popular, even in spite of what you said, thatâll still work. also consider:
- more players buying subs, equals more people trying retail also.
- more players buying subs, equals the game being profitable in spite of itself
- more money earned and lessons learned, retail gets better.
Or⊠it will fail because itâs a 15 year old game, full of bugs, outdated graphics, almost zero content, and no planned future updates.
Classic is literally blizzards way of just slapping a classic server up to make money off it, because they had to keep shutting down old classic servers using their IP.
They are intentionally preserving as many bugs as possible, which they add constantly to the ânot a bugsâ list. Because people wanted it as âpureâ as possible, even if they didnât make sense or negated mechanics.
Blizzard doesnât have to do anything to artificially make the game worse, if the game fails, it will be because it was based on a model that was more hardcore and required more time and dedication to do anything.
People leave after two wipes on a boss in retail right now, you think those same people are going to spend hours on the same boss wiping?
After all the tears Iâve seen over how things hit too hard in nazjatar when raid ready gear is raining from the sky? In counter, I think weâve all evolved as gamers and improved mechanically, so even classic wonât feel as difficult as it once was.
The tools we have for figuring out optimal gear, raids that wonât be new in any way and have already been figured out wonât present the epic challenge they presented before.
Iâm gonna play it, because I enjoyed things back then and the time Iâve spent in beta. And people like me will enjoy it and it sounds like people who played this game a long time ago, and people who never played it Iâve heard wanting to try it.
Will it stick around as popular forever, probably not, but I bet at release it will have more people playing classic for at least a month or two than in retail. And thatâs more cash flow in the pocket, they donât need vanilla to point out people arenât happy with class design or how the game was made, their subscription numbers and income show that.
I donât believe in any way theyâre shooting classic in the face to make retail look better, theyâre just giving people what theyâve been asking for.
some things are good, no matter how old they are.
It wonât fail. It wonât end retail either.
It will have a huge population explosion to start, before settling down on a smaller, yet incredibly faithful player base.
I donât think it will fail. The Servers-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named were very popular. The biggest one and the one Blizz devs met with the âcreatorsâ had 800k accounts created and 150k active players.
A flat subscription wonât nearly bring in as much revenue if it had paid apperance changes, race changes, name changes & server transfers. This is a business.

So your point is that Blizz is spending millions[/quote]
[citation needed]
The kind of player that will resub for classic will more than likely not be interested in retail.
Wow is more than likely making a lot more money due to microtransations rather than a flat 15$ a month even with a playerbase being 1/10th of what it once was.
Until Titanforging, RNG & timegating get removed they havenât learned. They can release another store mount to pad metrics at the end of a quarter.
So⊠first you say classic will fail because itâs old with bad graphics, then you concede that Blizzard is forced to make Classic primarily due to the demand for it.
Really?
Sub worked fine for the game for many years before they added store services.
Opinion and conjecture.
More conjecture.
Opinion.
Trolling.
thatâs okay, they have retail for that. if anything, itâll give games that like to emulate them the crazy idea that there are two different types of playerbase. people with lots of time, and people with limited time. and you would do well to not try to force them to play the same game, as people with lots of time will get bored and people with limited time will be overwhelmed.
No, thatâs not what I was saying.
I was saying, blizzard was tired of people using their IP, and them having to constantly defend their IP by shutting things down. So they simply made a tourist mode so they would be the ones profitting, and they didnât have to constantly keep shutting down private servers each time it popped up.
Iâm sure there is some nostalgia, or curiosity around old wow. Iâm not one of the people that suffer from that. I know exactly how much of a dumpster fire Wow classic was. There was just simply not many other options at the time.
Because they had 10-12 million players.
Classic is a completely different game than retail and people that quit retail wonât all of a sudden come back and play it
Timegating, RNG & titanforging are the biggest complaints Iâve seen about retailwow next to pathfinder.
No you just canât handle dissenting opinions and approach ideological opposition in a calm, rational manner.
Oh lol im just waiting bud. Im waiting on someone to flame the classic forums stating
âBlizz ur game iz brok! I cant roll a dwarf shamanz or Troll Paladinz!!â
I am prepared my friend
I miss the game i fell in love with all those years ago. No tmogs. We all looked like rainbows. Having Thunderfury caused peeps to flee. No crossrealm "you actually had to GET ALONG with your server or be labled as a troll. âAnonymity only goes soo far in a couple thousand vs hundreds of thousandsâ
People were just more friendly in my opinion back then. I hope it comes back. Heres to hope
I used to think this as well. This is why I thought theyâd never release vanilla servers.
But they did. They already crossed that bridge. Theyâve admitted that, for a portion of the playerbase, the old game is more fun than the newer game.
Having already done that, theyâre not going to now come out with a bad product. Your idea that putting out a good product would somehow be more reputation-damaging than putting out a bad product is counterintuitive to put it mildly.
i think itâs a huge win-win. so many happy people on classic. its just a world of its own.
Yes, and youâre mistaken if people arenât going to try and tap into this market with microtransations that plague retail.
âClassic is so buggy!â
Yeah. Because that WAS Classic. The game was always buggy back then. Sliding corpses, broken quests, Rogues stuck in Vanish stance. You want the Classic experience, honey this is it. Warts and all.
