Should be able to to go to max level lake and just fish from 1, catch nothing & still get skill points.

If memory serves, fishing areas were associated with skill level. If your skill isn’t high enough, you can’t fish. If you fish in a low area, once your skill surpasses that area, you aren’t likely to get further skill-ups.

My understanding is they removed the minimum, not the maximum. So the fishing pools still have levels, and you are unlikely to get above 50 in the stormwind canals. You’d have to fish in the terrokar lake that you have to fly to to fish to max level.

None the less, every other change is in the game because we play the last patch 3.3.5
This is literally the only fishing change thats missing.

I’ve tried it on multiple toons and nothing would even get hooked. Stood there for good 5m at 10s casts to make sure it wasn’t just me.
Reddit also has same reports.
You should be able to catch on every single cast. Will be trash, but still catch nonetheless.

So they made it so you can fish anywhere. If your fishing skill is below the level of the zone you’re fishing in, you’ll still get levels. If your fishing level is higher than the zone you’re fishing in, you won’t.
Meaning you can’t stay in a starting zone and get max fishing.
