There is way too much variation between servers, and even factions on servers, to only set prices based on region.
Because, the tokens are sold for the whole
Probably because buying a token on a dead server would mean that it would never sell.
Why should tokens get special treatment over everything else that can be sold on the AH? A sale is never guaranteed. That’s the risk you accept when using the AH. As it stands now tokens being sold on dead servers are generating gold out of thin air.
Because you have to spend real money to buy it. Imagine if you bought like 4 of them to get the vendor mount and it took weeks for them to sell. If it takes too long to sell them, then no one would want to buy them.
Because that would be a dumb idea.
Server specific prices would still exhibit cointegration at the least, if not being uniform, + or - random noise/fluctuation. This is because the bulk of underlying value in the token is 30 days subscription service. Dollar wise, 30 days on benediction alliance is 30 days on faerlina horde is 30 days on area 52 horde.
Hypothetically, even if prices were server specific for a time, and the demand and token price on a server is significantly lower, and people go log on that server and are somehow able to buy tokens there (through transfer or whatever methods) it will make those prices go up until it’s no longer significantly lower. And similarly for the other side, if the server has higher prices, people will sell there. Arbitrage will drive them toward the same price in the long run anyways. So Blizz just makes them uniform and linked.
I guess they don’t want people to be able to get those cheaper tokens on dead servers to buy game time on all living servers. A skilled trading desk (market maker) can cause short term fluctuations by controlling larger amounts of liquidity.
EANWHILE FOR CLASSIC, they want people to be able to BOT RETAIL GOLD, convert to bnet balance, and be able to SPEND IT IN CLASSIC, and not the other way around.
You realize this actually helps dead servers right? Do you think only you and other mega server players should have access to things?
Actually, that just creates inflation which hurts smaller servers.
You play on Grobbulus. You have no idea what the situation is like on smaller servers. Try again.
Because it’s a PTW system. You pay real money to Blizzard and they guarantee a certain gold amount in return. That way dead servers can PTW if they want to.
This is going to make GDKP even more popular now.
Which is not really an issue. Some like me on deader servers like OB got these for npc buys like artisan flying, dual spec and crap tons of sv skill not seen since I never really spec’d sv beside the must have hunter damage bonus to what we are tracking.
The rest waits. and is added to with questing for the nickel and dime training of cata to come. Okay…gems for pvp gear to come for TOC/ICC seasons.
OB has not seen inflation. its prices have sucked for a while now. Smaller servers have had “inflation” game for a while now. Smaller servers pay small server mark up. Its not been inflation. Its 10 sellers saying if you are too lazy to get this yourself…you will pay edit: those who do farm it more.
Kind of why retail went to universal AH for materials and consumes. on Illidan 1000’s were there to price war stuff. Market cornering difficult as you’d need to spend millions to get all the cheap stuff.
on that noob server player x didn’t know sucked…mat prices sucked. and the person(s) making them suck could buy all lower priced competition more readily.
Enter universal AH. Now that noob server player who never left sees illidan’s better market. and A52, and tich.
Classic could get this too. One more #some changes. OKay…2. I’d really like retail’s AH ui here too. there is no need to ahve 10 pages of the same item at the same price. Lump all that up to 1 big line item of item x at price y.
I would be fine with linked auction houses for smaller servers. The mega servers don’t need that though.
Tokens have a different gold value for the same reason everything else does. Every realm (and even faction) has its own economy. You can try to move realms to exploit this but Blizzard gets a cut off that too (transfer fee).
