Only when in danger of being genocided by a loon that also wanted all other races except Orcs removed from the Horde.
What failed? Belves are still there and survived. And we never antagonized the Alliance nor the Silver Covenant. The Silver Covenant wasn’t even a thing that existed until the Blood Knights did anyway.
Their defections failed.
The entire Blood Elven leadership should have been put on trial and executed for their betrayals and constant backstabbing.
We decided not to defect after the whole Horde stood against your guy and Thrall killed him.
Instead he was executed and I’m glad he was disenchanted.
Look, you responded to the article about the real admitted problems with the Horde experience at launch with something about how the article writer must not have played Alliance in Vanilla. Which does present an appearance of disagreement with the facts of the article.
Our Warchief was going to lead the Horde to self-destruction. Survival, one of the core tenets of the Horde, demanded action. So we acted, and annihilated the danger posed to the Horde.
It’s cheaper to merge factions. WoW is run by business men. Ion has no creative vision. He relies on analytics to decide on the course of the game.
I don’t know about that. There is a lot of faction specific stuff in the game. And I don’t want that to happen. There are still major differences despite working together on occasion.
And before that it was “and Bolvar was the lich king so of course he’s involved more than the other races”.
And “it’s Tyrande hunting down Sylvanas so of course she’s more involved than the other races” (with Shandris along for the ride).
And because of Bolvar it was “so of course Bolvar’s daughter is more involved than the other races”.
And “it’s Jaina and she’s super important or something so of course she’s involved more than the other races”.
And “Magni is the speaker of the world so of course he’s involved more than the other races”.
And “Velen was a peer of Kiljaeden so of course he’s more involved than the other races”.
And “Illidan was the first Demon Hunter so of course he’s more involved than the other races”.
And “Maiev is hunting Illidan so even though she’s not anymore she’s of course more involved than the other races”.
And on.

And that’s the problem. Everything is always about some Alliance NPC.

WoD was all about chasing Garry, again, and did we get to kill him? Nope; Green Jesus took care of that for us.
BFA was all Sylvie and her self-insert Simp undead dude with a bow ( who managed to beat both Mal and the Avatar of Elune’s vengeance at darkshore, cuzz, you know, undead dude with a bow).
If you think being the heel is so great, it’s time to hit the Alliance with the villain back for the next 10 years.
Murder the Alliance important NPC’s, have the Alliance raid its own cities (along with the Horde), and in general make Alliance players feel like absolute crap just for logging in to the game.
Let’s have it.
What, you think I enjoy working with monsters that should have been exterminated? You think I enjoy having quest-givers and merchants say, “Zug zug” or “For the Horde!” to me? We’re in the same boat of no more faction conflict.
Which is something I, disdainfully, support. No player faction can be eliminated, therefore no proper resolution would ever occur. Hence, we play nice, and try and put past grievances behind us. You should do the same.
If that doesn’t suit you, go play Classic. Your choice for era. Retail is finished with that nonsense. I don’t get to see the Horde shattered and broken, and you have to put up with an Alliance dominated future. Or play Classic.
A faction being eliminated is unnecessary. The game needs to return to its “cold war” roots that it launched with.

Absolutely not. I was sick of being eternally blue balled while the atrocities kept piling up. The ONLY effective resolution they could use is the one they did. Hide it, bury it, forget it. Don’t make a spectacle of the ending, just plow forward.
With current game design, Stoneform’s the most powerful racial in the game’s history. Tons of people are rerolling Dwarf because it’s simply become too strong to ignore.
Go check the top-ranked M+ players for example. If it isn’t a druid or an evoker, it’s a Dwarf.
Because you bunch of goobers torched the last tree, so you get to help with the next one.
Maybe don’t be genocidal monsters next time.

Maybe the faction population will even out again.
Because that’s the only way they would ever even entertain the idea of doing what you’re asking for.

The faction population was already pretty even (a 52/48 split) when Alliance players were crying that “nobody plays alliance”.
Not in Raid/M+/PvP participation.
