But it didn’t, though. You could always earn echos on every character you had and buy any essences you didn’t earn on some other character with the system. Honestly, I think more things in game (including things like Essences and reputations) should be account wide, or at least significantly easier to obtain after it’s been done the “hard way” once.
Here’s my thing, and we’re probably just going to have to agree to disagree on this…
I have no real issue with the system. I have no real issue with Echos in general, and I like the new “targeted” corruption thing, and that items can now be “recorrupted” (at least ones that were obtained after the change too effect). I have a problem with some players being completely locked out of the system from the start just to have a change made that gives advantages to those who were not locked out.
My entire issue is with the “locked out” aspect. That’s it, that’s all. And there was an easy fix for it. Had mains been able to earn Echos from the start, even if only half, or a quarter, of the amount alts could earn…had no one been completely and totally locked out, or if they’d added some kind of compensation because they locked players out of earning at all, I would have zero issues with the new system.
I don’t find it punishing to not have what you originally chose not to get because it was available for you to get and you just didn’t do it. I find it punishing to have no choice in the matter at all then to be told “too bad for you, you’ll catch up eventually so you don’t matter”, and that’s what they did with this system after having a large number of players locked out of earning on one, or multiple, characters.
And? You chose to do that all on your own. You could have not done it. I could have done it. Every person who plays this game had every option available to them. Every player could earn, or not earn, anything they wanted, or didn’t want, to earn because everything was available to everyone.
That is the point.
This Echos system completed locked some players out of earning anything at all…meaning they had no choice in the matter.
YOU may not have been able to. I certainly could not. But the person I responded to, who specifically stated they only went after specific rank 3’s on toons that actually needed them, absolutely could.
Anyone with a Rank 3 on one character could earn Echos on every other character so they could purchase that Rank 3. If a player had 10 characters, each with 4 different Rank 3 essences, they could earn Echos on every single character they had.
Anyone with zero Rank 3 essences earned no echos.
Anyone with all Rank 3s on a single character earned no essences on that character.
Echos were only obtainable if you had a Rank 3, and only on characters who didn’t have the same Rank 3 that another character had.
Pay attention and read the entire post. Don’t accuse me of not knowing something when you’re not even who I’m talking to or about.
Yes and you could have not gotten every essence on your main. Everyone made choices without knowing what was going to happen. You won when echos got brought in I lost and even though I didn’t win this time because I quit playing because of that crap last time I didn’t lose like you claim you did.
It’s literally not though. This change was not necessary. They could have just added another currency. Wouldn’t have negatively impacted anyone. And I had enough Echoes for two and couldn’t decide just yet, and now those Echos aren’t even enough for one. That’s ridiculous. I’ve bought many essences via Echoes, and because I held on to them only recently means I’ve been storing them and not using them? No.
My original choice was no more or less punishing than yours. The fact that some players could not, by no fault or choice of their own, earn an in-game currency, is the issue.
I’m sorry that you can’t see that. Again, as I said in the beginning, we are just going to have to agree to disagree. You don’t understand the actual issue, which isn’t with choices available to everyone, but with choices only available to some.
In my case I had the echoes with nothing to buy until my hunter got the last token in mechagon (which is RNG drop) and finished island spam. Would have also completed two fronts and maybe battlegrounds on the hunter if I had an earlier notice. Not going to try the last two as alliance.
I am sorry you can’t see you won one and you lost one. If you were that anxious to earn that currency for which you had no use then why wait to complain now.
I only bought one essence because I’ve only unlocked a single rank 3. I had over 1000 echoes and had no use for them, just wish I could accrue enough for some corruption, I did a vision and still don’t have enough for another vision let alone a piece of corruption.
So basically I’m the guy who only ever spent 500 echoes, and kept the rest. I’m not as far ahead as you might think, as I didn’t start grinding my cloak until recently.
I wasn’t anxious to earn a currency I didn’t need, and had no reason to expect that I would ever need it.
The issue is that they made a currency valuable after being useless with so little notice it may as well have been zero notice.
I won nothing and you lost nothing with the original system. We all had the choice to do whatever we wanted, however we wanted, with no one being at a higher advantage or disadvantage than anyone else.
If they were going to make corruptions purchasable (something highly valued and completely RNG to begin with), they either should have made a completely new currency to buy them, or used a currency everyone was already able to earn such as the Coalescing Visions (which were already associated with corruptions as they were used to cleanse items).
Trying to explain something to you is like talking to a brick wall. You just don’t get it and never will. You don’t even try to see the actual issue but just continue to throw things in that make zero difference at all.
The problem isn’t with choices. It’s with not being given a choice at all. Period!
And how do you fail to see this applies exactly to the situation as it is now. In any case, I am done arguing with you. It just amazes people some people think every system should benefit them and them alone.
I had 12k echoes because there was nothing I could spend them on.
None of my other characters have unlocked any essences, so I couldn’t buy any. In fact I’ve been pretty annoyed that I was uncontrollably getting this worthless currency for a while, now.
I

I did not choose to forgo the currency. I took part in content that awarded the currency. The game did not allow me to acquire it. Putting me at a direct disadvantage with this change.
The issue IS NOT with the original system, with how essences were originally earned, with the system giving them a catch up mechanic on toons that hadn’t earned them yet, or anything else… It is with a change that gave a direct advantage to some and a direct disadvantage to others based on how the system was originally implemented.
And you were unable to earn the currency BECAUSE you made a choice to get all the essences. It was your choice to do that, just like it was my choice to earn all the essences on my alts prior to echos.
I always love this one coming from people like you.
