9/10 times the Aug you invite is worthless, by far some of the worst players I’ve seen in years. Missing upwards of 20% Ebon Might uptime, using Eons when a pack is near death, “forgetting” to use Zephyr or any defensive really.
Take the Devastation pill. Invite the chads that enjoy participating in the dungeon.
Its the same reason why people look at the meters for mythic raiding.
They think that some how they play at the skill level at which those numbers will actually matter. The fact of the matter is, the average player does not play to the skill level that taking a rank 1 dps, vs a rank 7 DPS will actually matter in teh long run.
The same is true with an evoker, the math shows that they are objectively the best and that all the top guilds or group are lording over having one, but they dont realize that the average person does not play to that skill live to make it matter.
I made a thread about it the other day, some people explained why Aug looks so bad sometimes but I’m inclined to agree that I think Aug is one of those classes that flys under the radar when they’re getting carried.
In the dungeons I do, performance just feels much better when it’s a tank, 3 DPS, and a healer. That said, Aug is obviously good, maybe it’s just complex and requires a good player to use it properly.
It is in my groups. Have had far better success timing keys without those Lizards coming in and barely contributing. Some I’ve seen rarely fill with Living Flame, they wait for their essence to regen slowly.
The community eventually realizing that aug got completely gutted in keys will be the highlight of this expansion. So many awful leeches that just get boosted for free while putting in literally zero effort.
There’s still good augs and the good augs still blast / make keys feel significantly easier. There’s just a tonne of mediocre ones that were being carried with mediocre buff uptime and really high downtime. Given I’m seeing some push as much as 100k overall with their own damage contribution as well as buff the other DPS by a good 70-75k each.
Aug is as good as the group you are in, unless you have a group full of pumpers aug isn’t helping much since its just making average dps above average at the cost of a dps slot instead of making crazy dps turn insane.
Playing somewhat casually has made that abundantly clear for me, if you have low damage in your group your aug is worthless even if they are good, if you have good damage you can still have a weak aug as well due to not every aug player being good.
As a player that has played at hall of fame level multiple tiers and plays Aug this season, I’d rate Aug as being very easy in keys, but being more difficult then the majority of specs in raid - and on complicated raid fights it is considerably more difficult to play optimally then the majority of DPS specs.
Tbh even a terrible Aug is still going to make surviving around 50% easier, and that is what the aug really brings. That’s what makes them overpowered at higher keys, where they make the difference between unavoidable death and manageable pull. That’s also what makes them so useful at lower keys, when they turn wipe-worthy mistakes into hard times, or make the healer/tank strong enough to just brute force through what would otherwise kill them.
Their real strength is not what they do, but what they enable. A great Aug will Breath at the right moments and really multiply numbers hard. A bad Aug will still make your tank feel invincinble and let your healer breathe more comfortably.
The irony is, if your DPS in the key sucks then Aug isn’t going to be good at all because they depend on your other DPS to do well.
If your DPS suck the Aug will suck. It’s like a healers hps being low when no one stands in the fire and does things correctly, your healer will look bad when others do good.
Aug is bad when your groups are bad.
So your argument is based in ignorance in part.
Yes there are augs who do nothing. But mainly it’s looking bad because those they are working with are mediocre and with the changes to Aug, now it will be more noticable because they dont prop up the bad dps as much and more dps is based on them rather than their buffs to others.
Seems to me like an aug being played by an average pug DPS that doesn’t understand timing and isn’t the type to interrupt/use defensives would be dead weight vs an aug played by someone who usually heals and can track others cds and know when to help heal mechanics.
I appreciate the condescending explanation, but I’m already well aware of how Aug works. Aug’s are bad when they’re bad, yes the group has an impact on it, but when you’re missing upwards of 20% Ebon Might uptime, that’s an Aug issue.
They’ve never propped up bad dps, bad dps with Aug were still bad dps regardless of how “good” the numbers looked.
Seeing some high keys now being done WITHOUT this spec warms my heart. The sooner it falls out of the meta the better. Can’t be having a spec that’s a free carry for all the chimps out there, who when it isn’t disgustingly broken lose being able to time half the key levels they were previously doing.
It should be a lesson to Blizzard. You can make specs strong, but make the skill floor higher. Anything Aug level is just ridiculous.
Any class is a free carry when they are given the big buffs to S tier.
Fact is a bad player playing a DH this season likewise is only gonna be carried by being the meta and their far simpler and take less skill. Better make a post QQing about them too otherwise you’ll be looking like quite the hypocrite.
Preheat went through logs on stream last night and confirmed the same thing many have been saying, a LOT of augmentation’s support hooks are broken but most notably blade flurry and several parts of beast cleave.
Going through one of his own logs and attributing everything that was missing by hand he gained like 50k dps.
