Why are we not discussing M+ Dungeon length

I’ve been seeing / reading some of the discussions about M+; but haven’t really seen a lot of people mention the length of dungeons.

One of the best dungeons that people used to spam back in the day was Maw of Souls. Why? Because it was a 15 minute run.
Delves now offer you a similar thing; 15 minutes and bam a piece of loot.

This is why I think people are not playing M+ as much, the length of time you have to dedicate to a dungeon to complete it. A lot of the people I have played with have got kids and families now, so often need something less committed than 30 minutes in a dungeon because that time no longer works.
Delves, you go AFK, it doesn’t really matter the group can still progress, so everything is fine.

Have Blizz ever thought about doubling the number of dungeons by simply splitting them in half? That way if its too hard people can leave and they haven’t dedicated an hour to wiping; if it was 15 mins they could go and do another key.

I think as the population has aged the dedicated time to the game has diminished but blizzard hasn’t adapted to make it quicker to jump on and do something smaller to get abit of progression.
I’m thinking almost jump on, order uber eats, smash a dungeon, uber eats arrives.

Sometthink about, thought i’d share my two cents.

Honestly a perfect dungeon length for me is around 30 minutes.

So you want mythic raid loot from infinitely spamming 15min dungeons?

Riiight.

I’ve done every dungeon this season in under 20 minutes multiple times in the sub-10 key range. Usually crest farm runs. If you’re pushing it to the very end limit of the timer sure it could take 35 minutes. But if you’re running with a good group it’s more like 20-25. That extra 10 minutes isn’t making or breaking anyone’s schedule.

For most pugs, the duration of the group finding process is a bigger problem than the duration of the dungeon itself. I can’t see them halving the dungeons and not halving the rewards. If you doubled the number of dungeons required, it would likely make things substantially worse.

If your time is so limited, they created delves for exactly that situation.

Well considering that a +10 is harder than Mythic raids, why not?

What? I have to assume that this is a joke, because you cant be serious

Nah. Its the changes in the difficulty curve. 30-40 minutes per dungeon is pretty perfect.

There isn’t anything fundamentally wrong with how long a dungeon is once you’re inside it, especially since the length is also tied into how beefy the trash is.

They can’t make the dungeons say, 15 minutes without either ripping out half of them or greatly reducing the number of trash.

Run length is fine. Only thing I can’t stand is an untimed key. That many deaths, that low of DPS. I didn’t intentionally sign up for a carry yet here I am.

Maybe 10% of my overall runs if you don’t factor in the “just barely timed.” That’s the price of randos and not having 636 this late in the season.

I think people are mostly fine with it because this season isn’t nearly as long as previous seasons, like the average time is roughly the same, but timers have been inflated as a nerf to the 7 affix, so a clean run is typically significantly quicker than previous seasons.

You’re not wrong and I tend to agree they feel to long this season.

Hm. I dunno, people were farming +10s in pugs way before they were farming Mythic raid bosses in pugs and even then, most Mythic pug raids don’t go past 4/8M. You’d see more people pugging for +14-16 keys than you’d see people pugging Mythic Ansurek.

The 30 minute time frame is fine.

10s are roughly on par with the “harder, but not AotC boss level” in heroic raids, like Kyveza, at best.

20 minutes tops would be ideal for me.

Sorry you cant finish your mini dungeon in 5 minutes. This thought process is why some of the best dungeons from Vanilla are jokes now. Youre all in a hurry to finish so you can requeue instead of just enjoying the dungeon/game. But gotta get that dopamine and seratonin hits!

Dungeon length has been fine this season. If people aren’t doing it that’s not the main reason why.

I wouldn’t want them to be any shorter (or any longer). I think the “roughly 30 minutes” per dungeon is fine.

I think all dungeons should be designed for a 30 minute timer. The part no one ever mentions is the time it takes to form group >> get to dungeon. This can take up to 10 minutes by itself. Especially pugging.

Dflight S1 stands out as particularly a slog. Nokhud Offensive and Halls of Valor were 40 minute timers. Arcane Vault was 34 or 36. I want to say Halls of Infusion was like 38 or 40 minutes.

Obviously when you’re having successful runs you don’t spend the whole timer length, but when your key bricked you were spending pretty close to an hour between making group and doing the dungeon. Even when you timed dungeons it was still about 40 - 45 minutes to form and complete.

Do a plus 2 in mythic gear. Boom, done.

Jokes aside, I like the current lengths. I don’t wanna one and done over and over. I want a mini adventure. Even a few longer ones wouldn’t bother me.
