Why Are We Necroing Threads?

Older threads are good. If someone is having an issue, they should post in the oldest thread about that issue. It give perspective on how the issue has evolved over time. It highlights the ongoing nature of the issue. Kneecapping search results to only show past 30 days have no purpose. It would turn us all into goldfish.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Some old threads are truly evergreen. I donā€™t think anyone has a problem with those. Others have been overcome by events and the discussion is really no longer relevant.

And yes, itā€™s probably impossible to tell by date alone which one of those youā€™re looking at. What I think they could do (and maybe ought to do) isnā€™t to kneecap the search, but simply highlight search results that arenā€™t active discussions. I donā€™t want the results to simply not appear. Iā€™d like to see a tag, though.

Iā€™ve gotten like 7 likes on a post I made in July 2019 today and I have no idea why. Nobody necroā€™d the thread

Necroing a thread about necroing threads is very meta.

17 days exactly, it is an unspoken written rule, or was it a spoken unwritten rule? Now you got me confused.

I necro a thread to usually check what the OP has posted is true or false.

So next time the poster will likely do his research and provide accurate information.

I donā€™t necro a thread that is old and irrelevant to tack on some unrelated question. Thatā€™s the worst. Close second is necroing a thread whose information is totally out of date and relates to an issue that no longer happens. Or both of these.

But some very old threads are still very relevant.

My sincerest apologizes. I was practicing a bit of Necromancy and some of that energy probably escaped here to the forums. I should really do this in a more controlled environment.

Pretty sure that rule is both unwritten and unspoken.

Same problems still exist. When people make new threads people complain why not post in threads already there. When they post in threads already there people complain they necro threads.

Which way you want it?

Probably just a polite way to tell them to shut up about it.

Ima do it! See yall in 6 months.

After a certain amount of time threads should auto-lock.

Problem fixed.

Imagine making a post about it.

Imagine even responding to a post about it oh wait
