Why Are We Necroing Threads?

For fun? Plus some necro threads bring up important points.

They have this on the US forums too, just not in GD. Tech Support forums have it, for example. They should really enable it across the whole forum, unsure why they never did that here.

Probably because the GD forum in the US has an alarmingly high number of users who complain endlessly when someone creates a new thread about any topic that already exists, no matter how old the last post in that topic is. But of course, many of the same users also complain endlessly if someone necros a topic that hasnā€™t been touched for as little as a week (Iā€™ve even seen it happen with a mere 4 day gap once) tooā€¦ you donā€™t see this behavior as much on the EU forums.

I disagree.

Thereā€™s nothing of value that can be offered to a two year old thread where half the players probably donā€™t play anymore.

More often than not, necroing is done as a form of trolling.

Threads closing automatically after a month of no posts is a very good idea. If a topic is really hot or popular, it will stay active on itā€™s own.

Not only this, but when I do try to create a thread using certain words, I get a list of threads with similar keyphrases, on the side. Almost as if instead of creating my own thread, to go to a thread saying something similar to what Iā€™m saying.

Itā€™s a very confusing system/rule. Can we ā€œnecroā€ threads or not?

Well Iā€™ll see you in six months, then

they do have recommended topics so someone might just respond you act like every one of them is done on purpose lol. so much paranoia around here. not like this place is worth a crap anyway just a bunch of the same people responding to each other mostly while blizz listens to nothing anyway. i really donā€™t see the problem with a necroā€™d thread especially if itā€™s actually about the game.

Maybe youā€™re just paranoid about people being paranoid.

Anybody who necros old threads should be ganked for two hours even with warmode off and the timer stops when you log off so no cheesing :rage:

Yeah! You are supposed to create a new thread, then we can yell at you for not searching.

My theory for necro threads in general is that someone came back after a break, searches a topic, and starts posting without realizing the date.

Ppl expect to use the search feature and get topics that are recent but the search engine isnā€™t set like that and so any topic related it shown first and so ppl reply to it not realizing itā€™s old.

Oh yea, some topics still might be relevant and shows how long the issue has been on going and ignored.

Iā€™ll give it a year.

I canā€™t speak for others. But I will be necroing this thread in six months, and I think the reason is obvious.

Yeah, the default search is by ā€œrelevanceā€, never mind how old the topic.

How hard would it be for them to flag topics more than a month or so old? Hard enough that they donā€™t want to pay anyone to make it happen, thatā€™s how hard. (More than a dayā€™s effort and less than two weeks would be my guess.)
