Why are tailors so special and get a free gatehring profession?

It was bad enough when tailors were super special and got EXTRA cloth… Now they’re they only ones who get cloth?? That’s basically giving tailors A COMPLETELY FREE GATHERING SKILL while everyone else is screwed over.

What about my main’s leatherworking and jewelcrafting? I don’t get free leather or ore to work with. If I want access to my profession mats on my main, I have to give up a profession slot to a GATHERING profession… But tailors are special for some reason? Why???

I can not for the life of me think why tailors should have this kind of all-included special access to their main crafting materials when no other profession gets the same!

(I don’t count enchanting in this only because while enchanters are the only ones who can get enchanting mats, have the big disadvantage of needing to give up some pretty valuable and/or hard to get things to get those mats.)

Well Tailors IRL get their cloth from farming plants or silkworms.

So I guess herbing should have been their natural second profession like how mining is to Jewel crafting.

Now why did Blizzard not go in that direction - No idea

Wow if you only could make alts with the tailoring profession in an expansion that has super account wide sharing

Yeah, time to make cloth scrapping new profession, scrap the body of humanoids in search of cloths, cloths have 3 different qualities now.

I think cloth should be included in all professions.

You need cloth to fabricate handles for weapons, armor insulation, rags to clean material and so on.

They should intertwine the professions making them lean on each other to make things that are worth making in later stages.

I currently have to have that to get leather and ore for my main. I have an alt I have to take out and keep leveled to get it.

Know what that is?

A COMPLETE PAIN IN THE BUTT. Which a leatherworker/jewelcrafter has to deal with, but tailors can just go their merry way getting their main needed profession mats on their main.

It better not be, since only tailors have access to it now while everything else requires it’s own separate gathering skill.

One of my first MMO memories is discovering I could shear sheep, spin the wool into thread and weave my own cloth. Some day perhaps I’ll get that chance again?

That’s called a nerf. Not a buff. Not special. It’s gettin’ screwed.

you think this is somehow better for tailors?

now instead of cloth being something everyone loots and dumps dirt cheap on the AH because it’s useless to almost everyone, it’s going to be much more expensive.

how does that make our profession better?

I’m sorry, I’m finding it difficult to locate your rage thread about how only enchanters can disenchant and create enchanting reagents.

Surely you have also raised a sturdy voice of protest about that terrible inequity?

Laughs in Enchanting?

Personally I consider tailors gathering just as dignified as Forsakens “cannibilise” ability.

A more real way to support tailors with materials would be herbalism (cotton, linen), skinning (extra supple skins) and shearing a yet not existing gathering profession. Wild animals tend to object to be sheared and the owners of demesticated ones (sheep, alpacas etc) do not like strangers stealing wool this way.

So we recycle cloth by looting the dead. If you ever purchased a tailor made outfit on AH, know that it was made by robbing the dead.

Shearing is problematic but skinning could be allowed to gather “supple leather” and herbalists could be allowed to do their part. Npc farmers could have quests where you are allowed to shear their livestock for them. You get to keep some wool as payment for your work and if you need more, you purchase more from the farmers.

We should however be careful about using mining as a gathering profession for tailors. Asbestos tend to be unhealthy.

Enchanters say hi.

I lowkey feel less punished for being tailor and enchanter main
collecting herbs, ores, and leather has always been more profitable in the short term of a recent expansion/patch, now tailoring is an equal

Tailoring is just becoming more equal with enchanter. :stuck_out_tongue:

Kinda funny how everyone is fine with enchanting being self sufficient yet when tailoring gets to keep their mats like enchanter, everyone loses their mind.

You people are weird. Tailoring has been one of the worst professions for years and they get a slight advantage and you freak out. Let tailors have something nice for once and maybe this can be the first expansion in forever they can actually turn a profit.

I do agree that collecting materials should be a gathering profession.
But… its just sorta how it is and has been.
I wouldnt pay my attention to it. It ain’t gonna change.

I don’t get it, is cloth like radioactive now and the tailors are immune to it?

Could they at LEAST give them an option to scavenge for clothes off of dead enemies or items so it can be more believable?

That is actually a good suggestion.

We already have the herbs in the game so it wouldn’t have been much of a change to allow Tailors to be able to gather from the herb nodes and get various cloth mats.

As it is, cloth for a tailor has always been in seriously low amounts if they only relied on their own toon for getting it. Being able to get cloth from alts or the AH was always a bonus.

It will be interesting to see exactly how these changes work and whether tailors will get enough cloth.
