Why are so many caster dps needling on +healing gear?

At first I thought it might have been because certain items have sockets until I seen these people just needing on non socketed plus healing items also.

Ive been leveling up two characters through dungeons and the majority of the time there is one mage, warlock, or other caster dps that needs on an item that is mainly a plus healing item. I just got finished doing auchenai crypts where the healing helm dropped off first boss and the shadow priest and warlock both needed for it. The druid healer didnt roll for it for some reason even though it would have been an upgrade. And i also did the same dungeon right before where the same healing druid was in the group and he lost the roll for the same helmet against a mage.

The group consisted of me tanking, a resto druid and a mage, warlock and shadow priest. I then inspect the mage and he is also wearing the healing helmet off first boss.

I changed from heal spec to dps spec on my shaman because ive experienced this so many times and its annoying losing a roll on a +healing item to a mage. I dont understand whats so alluring about +healing items to these people when most of them (like mages) cant benefit from the +healing part and they could easily get items from quests that are better than those items.

Ive even seen these people pass or greed on items that are clear upgrades for them. And seen people like a shadow priest for example need on items they cant even equip. I have so many screenshots and im collecting more whenever im in a group where this happens because its rediculous and funny at the same time. i just dont get it and ive never seen anything like this in all my time playing this game. It happens in just about every group im in.

They are either boosted, bad, new, or have no idea what they are doing.

Or you know they genuinely don’t care about other players and just want vendor gold.

Well there are also restoration druids and shamans rolling need on caster dps gears for their off specs in my runs too. It goes two ways.

if i was a healer and dps caster needs on +healing - i’ll just stop and demand to kick him or leave myself. And put him on ignore ofc

I won’t lie, there was a piece that had way more +healing than dps on it but it was technically an upgrade for me as a dps. It’s different from how healing gear in classic was which is why it threw me off for a sec but i realized it was just for healers and passed and the healer was happy, so now i always double check to make sure it’s actually a dps item

That’s probably cause they prefer to run DPS, but for the sake of getting a group together, decide to heal it. Can heal normal TBC dungeons in leveling specs, especially as Balance and Elemental.

It’s confusing how nearly all the gear has plus healing on it. You are forced to pay attention to how much healing it has compared to damage lol

I had something similar happen. I rolled need on a ring that was +healing. I didn’t even notice until the next day cause I bought the ring you get at honored from Thrallmar and had to figure out what to replace.

I have never actually bumped into somebody that would take it that far.

So in the interest of being devil’s advocate I could see 1 legit reason why, at least for the shadow priest you mentioned. Priests of all specs depend on spirit for leveling but in dungeons most gear with spirit is +healing gear and most DPS gear has no spirit.

Long shot justification but /shrug.

They’re dps’ers and therefore dumb.

A lot of dungeon gear was made for dps and healing. You claim it’s healing gear because +healing, but fail to say that the piece in question also has +damage. As such it is dps gear as well, and it’s an upgrade for any caster that didn’t raid in classic.

Healing items also have damage on them, and a lot of folks have bad gear from Vanilla or boosting. It is just how 5-mans go.

It usually has +heal and +a little spell damage on the gear sir. It’s just an upgrade if you didn’t have any + spell damage.

Yea if a caster needs on healing gear that basically means they’re boosted so you can go ahead and kick them without feeling bad abt it.

A little +damage bonus was added to +heal gear starting in TBC so that healers wouldn’t feel so completely castrated when out soloing/questing/farming. It’s still not dps gear unless your goal is to be really subpar dps. As Elemental (dps) spec, I only need roll on this type of gear (for offspec healing) after I notice that the healer has greed it instead of need it. I do the same thing with all cloth & leather when cloth/leather primary classes are in the group (plus, I really do prefer wearing mail armor as a Shaman). Common sense & simple basic human courtesy are largely dead concepts these days.

Gees, what’s next. “I got a flat tire today, must have been those boosted characters in WoW!” You boost bashers are really grasping at anything you can now, looks really really desperate and petty at this point.

The more likely answer is that it was a greedy player that wanted to vendor it for the gold. You know, like the ones Classic had before the boost even existed.

If the caster is boosted or just has bad vanilla gear then some of the healing and spell power gear is gonna be better for them. Hopefully they don’t take an upgrade that a healer could actually use tho

This is reason 3 why bonus damage on healing items that’s also outside of the item budget was a Horrific move by old blizzard; first it made wizards more apt to ninja healer loot, second made healer loot insanely over item level, and third it makes hybrid specs ridiculously op when played properly.
