Alright, dude. You just have a narrow idea of what you consider to be gameplay and aren’t interested in seeing anything from anyone else’s perspective. And you know what? I still want you to have your dragonriding, because I don’t relish in the idea of people losing things they find fun. Wish that could be true for more people.
Because its unfair for the rest of us who have no problem with DRing to have advantage over those who do for the simple reason that Ion wanted to remove normal flight
I like how you people think more options is a good thing.
“Look. I let you play chess in checkers. Arent a great game designer?”
No.
If you want old flying go play classic wraith.
You just described a situation in which you could play either checkers or chess. Two full, separate games. Which is twice the amount of games you could play with one or the other. You wanna take another crack at the metaphor thing? I’ll give you a freebie.
This is an RPG. Those typically have choices. How is that a bad thing?
I played the free trial and didn’t find it so difficult on my evoker. It’s a lot better getting around than Aviana’s Feather in WoD.
But then again, I was the kid who played Pilotwings on the SNES and actually LEARNED HOW TO FLY so I guess this is more of a problem for the…uninitiated. Hah.
Im just pointing out the fallacy that more choices doesnt always equal better game.
And its a perfect example. Like I said if you want old flying they have the game for you. Its called wrath classic.
I don’t want to fly a big ugly dragon that makes me have a killer headache. I want to use my demon mount on my demonology warlock and the other mounts that don’t give me the killer headache.
And I would also like to point out that everyone is on the same ugly mounts. Blizzard killed the water strider because it was ugly and everyone used it.
You are so needlessly defensive of dragonriding when we aren’t calling for it’s removal. Not to mention shortsighted. Do you want retail to lose subscribers? Are they not “real” WoW players in your eyes if they don’t like this one mechanic?
How about disabled people, or people with motion sickness, etc. Has it occurred to you that there is no other movement like this in the game and it’s inclusion is why “suddenly everyone has motion sickness.” Of course they do. They always had the possibility of being motion sick. Something was added that triggers it. Do they not “deserve” to play?
I can DR just fine, but do I like it–not really. I find it an inconvenience and would rather use either flight form on this toon or my other mounts on my alts.
Edited: just add normal flying already, Blizz. Give players a choice.
The motion sickness thing is a legit concern. Not a reason to leave old flying in the game tho.
Then you just intentionally want a portion of the player base to not be able to travel effectively? Why? I can only see this as either malice or cruel indifference. You literally want other people to not have fun, for some reason.
You say that as if it’s the only solution. Or even the obvious solution.
It’s an extremely simple solution considering old flying is in dragonflight… when you’re doing a corpse run. It’s not like it’s impossible to use it there. Making dragonriding accessible would take a lot of work, trial, and error, which would leave players SOL in the meantime. And annoy the people who just literally don’t want to do this minigame.
I can choose to not do any other aspect of the game without it affecting my open world experience. I don’t have to pvp, raid, or do any dungeons. What is so bad about giving the people the option. The mere option of flying how we used to?

Blizzard just invested an expansion worth of development into REWORKING flying. Not to have 2 different kinds of flying side by side.
Of course the obvious thing is to have a “motion sickness” mode that get’s rid of motion lines or whatever is needed.
It is possible that some players feel that dragon flying is a necessary and integral part of the game, and therefore feel frustrated if they are unable to participate in it due to physical limitations or other reasons. It could also be that some players feel that dragon flying adds an element of fun and excitement to the game, and therefore feel disappointed if they are unable to participate in it. Additionally, it is possible that some players feel that not being able to participate in dragon flying puts them at a disadvantage in certain content or activities, and therefore feel frustrated by this. Ultimately, the reasons why players may be vocal about dragon flying may vary and it is important to respect the feelings and perspectives of others.
There are so many factors to motions sickness. It’s not that simple. For some people it’s the speed, or the camera movement, or the motion lines, or any number of combinations.
And the fact is that that even after all that I would still prefer normal flying. You are not the arbiter of what “gameplay” means. You do not get to decide what is worthwhile in other people’s opinion. I’m not claiming to tell you what you should consider fun. I’m saying what is fun or not in my opinion
I think the intention behind dragonflying is to provide players mobility that binds them to the ground much like walking does via a gravity mechanic. Regular WoW flying is not compatible with that.
I say that as someone who is not at all impressed with dragonriding as a box feature. If they implemented it into a pvp mode where both teams had a dragonrider (ala House of the Dragon fights), that would be cool.
You are not the arbiter of what “gameplay” means.
Sorry but game design principles prove me right apriori.
It’s not that simple
Never said it was. I’m sure color blind mode is pretty tricky too.
And the fact is that that even after all that I would still prefer normal flying .
You THINK you do. But you don’t.
Regular flying is cool but kind of a pandoras box. Once you give it to players, they don’t interact with the landscape in a meaningful way anymore. I respect that we aren’t given regular flying right away.
Also am I smoking crack, or did previous expansions not release with flying for the first 6 months??? These clowns are the epitome of giving someone an inch and them wanting to take a mile.
