Its just odd to me. Whats the point in having a no flying mount mechanic while only allowing that one kite and the new drake. We dont need to be able to fly around but being able to just sit on it on ground would be fine too. Can we please get a change for this?

It doesn’t really have anything to do with them being “paid” mounts, versus those mounts simply being flagged as being ground mounts as well as flying mounts.
Sure technically no free mounts fall under that category - yet.
Literally all flying mounts are ground mounts as well. Theres no actual difference between paid and normal flying mounts. And unless they do this change or theres some new event we are going to get any free mounts that fall into that category.

There is. The flying mount currently in the game do not function as a ground mount outside of the paid ones.
You cannot mount any of the flying mounts in game if you do not have normal flying trained. However the paid mounts you can mount once you learn normal ground riding because they adjust based on your riding skill, other mounts do not.
Doesn’t the Horseman mount count as both?

Question… can these folks riding their kites around Dalaran actually fly, or are they limited to ground mount functionality while inside the city?
This is not true. You cannot mount most flying mounts without the riding skill like you can the paid ones.
It’s limited to the ground , because at that point it is considered a ground mount. Even if you happen to roll into a flying zone like Krasus Landing, it won’t let you fly until you dismount and remount.
That’s what I would have expected. So I’m not really sure what the problem is here. It seems like everything is working as normal. I’m having a hard time seeing what the advantage of the paid mounts are in this context… am I missing something?
Horseman mount and I believe Kara mount are the same, these are mounts that can both be flying and ground mounts and scales with your riding skill level.
The only advantage is that you don’t need separate mounts for ground/flying. Which isn’t a big deal, there are better and cooler looking mounts.

You have to remount if you want to fly though. It’s extremely annoying. I thought it would be broken and you would be able to fly out of water, but I guess they thought of that one.
Who would have thought that Blizz, whether on purpose or not, favors those who buy their shiny new toys.
Also who cares? All the real 99 flex parsers know how to fly through dalaran and stay mounted in air over the well.
ik about the well but I just dont like having to use another slot on ground mounts only in dalaran
Just make all flyers ground mount eligible in no fly zones, it’s not a big deal. Good QOL fix.

Not sure what you are referring to OP, i can’t use the 12 month sub drake in dalaran at all
Must be a bug on ur end im seeing a bunch of ppl use the 12 month drake in dal as ground mount

The mounts in retail are all flagged as flying or ground, dynamically based on where you are, your level, and your riding level. In classic this isn’t a universal thing and only some mounts scale dynamically.
