This. I’d like to roll PvP but with the 1.5 hours a night i’ll get to play it just won’t be possible to do much. If i hit the lotto and quit my job i’ll def reroll on a PvP server though.
I work 40 hours a week, have a social life and other things I’m chasing in life outside of wow.
Yes, I love world pvp but I love raiding more. If i get on for an hour or so to farm mats I don’t want to fight people over nodes and get ganked.
In battlegrounds you have winners and losers, in world pvp, everyone is a loser.
World PvP is a lot of fun. It also feels most like a faction war when spontaneous giant raiding parties can begin marauding across the lands attacking cities.
Totally agree. But doubt I will get that much play time
I will go PvP. My experience with PvP Battlegrounds and on a PvP server is that iyou’ll just run into people ganking you. If you’re not in a coherent group with good communication then you’ll just be fodder.
I tried it once leveling as a Horde around Tirisfall and got harrassed by 3 opposing faction players 20 levels higher than me. There’s nothing fun or awesome or “hardcore” about ganking someone 20 levels lower than you, unless you want to kick babies.
PvE allows me to enjoy the game. There are enough “people” trying to stop my progress in real life for me to put up with it in a game I pay to play. And as for war, I’ve seen the real kind, its nothing like this. If people want it to be more real, don’t respawn. Delete the killed character (and all the money) and start over
Why aren’t more players considering a PvE realm?
PVP servers are historically more balanced regarding faction distribution. While PVE servers are typically Alliance biased.
PVP servers are also a more complete World experience because part of the danger and difficulty level of the leveling experience is the other players that can and will likely kill you.
PVP servers don’t have goofy “Flagging” in contested zones so you just know that “Red = enemy” where as on a PVE server there is all sorts of lame BS that goes on with that.
There are 2 reasons why you would play on a PVE sever…
- You had PVP, and that’s a legitimate reason.
- You want an easy time leveling, questing, and farming.
Because some of us have good taste
because for most people including myself, pvp is the end game. once you clear the raids and get the gear it offers, why go back? pve is scripted and gets stale after a while. pvp, specifically world pvp, is dynamic and always changing. you never know what a player might do.
What an excellent post.
Cheers.
It’s also the correct response. People whining about PvP happening on a PvP server is why we’re stuck with Warmode on Retail.

Right because ironically even people on pvp realms don’t like wpvp when they’re not at an advantage. War mode is the result of years of people re rolling onto pvp servers onto the most populated side, a trend that has been happening since vanilla.
The vast majority of players during Vanilla played on PvE servers. It wasn’t even close. As time went on this effect intensified as servers became more unbalanced between factions to the point where most PvP servers were 90%+ dominated by one faction. It is revisionist history to suggest that PvP servers were ever more popular.
Private servers have been mostly PvP for many reasons. Devs were more pro PvP so they put more effort into PvP projects. The PvP model is also more lucrative to the shady types of people running private servers for personal profit. The playerbase of private servers skews younger than the population of Vanilla wow, due to them being free and having lower system requirements. Also 14 years have passed since Vanilla and the internet culture is much less civilized and prone to finding ways to abuse others in games, which PvP servers wholeheartedly endorse.
It remains to be seen which one will be more popular in Classic, but if history is any indication the PvP servers may start out strong and end up imbalanced by faction with lots of rerollers on PvE realms.
you really are that special that you have to laugh at your own sentences?
i can guarantee you there’s people that will log far more /played doing those “few pvp contents” compared to aaaaaallllllll that vast pve crap you mentioned.
really,lol
Holy crap you got through to him! Or at least made him give up. I gave up trying to break that wall down.
Keep in mind pvp servers in classic are a lot different than any we have had in a while and is a thousand times better than the current warmode system. You get so many really fun interactions and huge world battles pop up. I remember once watching a friend play in vanilla and some guy ran into the town and was gathering reinforcements to fight a horde player invasion north of the town and the people all banded together and a huge war started.
Also since everyone is tied to a single server you gain a certain reputation on the opposing faction. It’s kind of like those old tv shows or anime’s where there’s 2 really good characters opposing each other and all their sides forced respect that enemy because of the way they conduct themselves. It goes both ways to if you get a rep for just killing low levels then the enemy will just make you camp on site for their faction.
I’m not a big pvp fan these days but I’ll be rolling on a pvp server just for classic.
I never understood the hostility that PVE players throw at PVP players and servers.
If you think ganking is only done by bullies - roll PVE.
If you think being attacked in the open world spoils your fun - roll PVE.
If you think PVE is the primary focus of WoW - roll PVE.
If you want a dangerous world where the unexpected happens, where plans are often disrupted, where might makes right, and you enjoy the faction conflict - roll PVP.
It is really that easy. If you roll on a PVP server, why on Earth would you be upset that you were ganked? It was your decision. You chose to put yourself in a realm where such things can happen.
So why do the PVE preferred players cast so much shade on PVP gameplay? It makes zero sense. It is completely upside down. If you find yourself on a PVP server - YOU CHOSE to be there. You could have easily avoided PVP gameplay forever.

Go look at the huge attitude that some pvp server player have in this thread that they are playing the real WoW and that they are actually good at pvp just because they play on a pvp server and maybe you’ll get an idea of why.
They should never mix. That’s why there are two server types. Some like to call PVP ganking bullying. How would they know? They are PVE players. They should have never, ever been ganked. If they, through some colossal error in judgement, rolled on a PVP server, they have some nerve being critical of the gameplay they find there. If you roll the wrong server type - you have no one to blame but yourself.
Flying mounts didn’t take away World PvP. The introduction of “dishonorable kills” ruined World PvP back in Vanilla, and it never recovered.

Flying mounts just highlighted that wpvp was really just about ganking, when people whined that they made ganking harder.
