Why are Gnome Warlock NPCs....?

So, the title may be confusing a bit. I wanna elaborate by asking further, why are they kinda dumb/bad at doing things? I swear, every time I see a gnome warlock NPC, they wind up screwing up the spells and summoning some super powerful demon that kills them every time, and we have to deal with. I know it’s for a gag, but it’s admittedly not so funny after a time to me.

The two prominent ones i am recalling being Wilfred Fizzlebang in Trials of the Crusader, and Zelifrax Wobblepox from the start of the Legion warlock campaign. One summons an eredar demon lord instead of the doomguard he wanted, the other a pit lord cause he messed up the incantation

gnome personality is friendly and goofy.

it’s an engineering carryover. gnomish engineering is deeply tied to their personality.

Gnomes are generally not taken seriously as a race, to the point where their main villain, Thermaplugg, was turned into a Battle Pet. It’s horrible writing. Every race deserves care and respect.

Do characters like Sharim offer some balance?

Goblins aren’t really taken seriously too but the horde are goofy enough to meld together. :dracthyr_nod:

confirmation bias, look it up

oh… you mean LORE. oh idfk. i thought you meant players you get in grps.

i can’t really enjoy, like, or care for gnomes, only cause a roommate i used to live with, all she ever did was play the gnome race and constantly talk about them. sorta rubbed me the wrong way. only ever made one to just get that sword only they could get, and then i got rid of them afterwards. only one i can somewhat tolerate is Chromie, but that’s cause she’s not an actual gnome, just using a gnome visage

Gnomes are amazing, your roommate being a weird fetishist giving you Gnome Trauma is kind of hilarious though.

I actually enjoy goblins. just hated Gallywix for the most part. but i am glad he is gone and we have Gazlowe as the new goblin leader. i always liked him, and was super happy to see him when i was questing. Just hope Gallywix doesn’t come back, he annoyed me and kinda made me mad at times.

A gnome’s only purpose in life is comic relief.

People who REALLY hate gnomes freak me out just as much as people who are OBSESSED with them. Take that for what its worth.

That does sound unfair, hope the feeling changes.

Kinda bothersome he then leads the venture co. but at least the goblin heritage quest foils his scheme.

i don’t hate them, per se. i’m sure i enjoyed a couple, i just can’t remember any off the top of my head atm. i just find them more annoying than anything. though, it stems from a mixture of not liking them due to a roommate i used to have, and me just being a horde person who never got into alliance. i legit only play worgen and draenei when i wanna do alliance stuff

/looks at Dalaran’s street lamps

Yeah… comic relief. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

For what it’s worth, I do kind of want Addie Fizzlebog and Kelsey Steelspark to appear again. Miss my hunting apprentice and the screaming ball of knives.

OMG I never knew about the street lamps story…I looked it up. That hit me right on the feels.

Ok. I take it back. Gnome’s can have other purposes beyond their primary purpose of comedic relief.

imma be honest, LOVED that scene. just casually calling in the gunship and blasts a demon without looking at it. XD

I mean if you were a Warcraft 3 player especially gnomes just were comic relief, millhouse is my favorite gnome but yeah he’s basically a meme, so is millie.

they’re role in WoW lore is just insanely skilled engineers but somehow charismatic, it’s a fantasy i’ve had too

The problem is, they keep forgetting that demons don’t come with an off-switch!
