According to Icy Veins Augmentation Evoker is currently considered “Brokenly OP” regarding M+ performance in TWW Beta. Anyone know more about this, or have any idea why this is the case?
They still do all the awesome buffs but also their personal damage was buffed quite a bit so they being utility and decent dps. I suspect they will be nerfed a bit
It’s really no different than the current state.
You’re rarely (if ever) going to actually do more DPS than the other 2 in your key, but Aug brings a massive amount of safety to keys that literally no other spec does.
The DPS contribution of Aug is slightly better for sure, but that’s got nothing to do with why Aug is so strong.
The timers of keys have placed a much higher premium on survival than speed in the last 4+ seasons, and as long as that continues to be the case Aug will be turbo meta.
To be fair though, this is strictly for keys above the ksh threshold and realistically more in line with the title threshold.
Realistically, a well-played devastation is much better for any key below like a 15-16.
TL;DR- It’s literally just the safety that they unlock.
Yeah but I was asking about TWW, they are by Icy Veins considered “brokenly OP” on the charts, #1 by a ton apparently.
I know they are really good on high keys in DF because 2 dps that are already 0.001% pumpers make augs gods, but what’s going on with TWW?
From what it sounds like personal dps was boosted strongly and aug bonuses are just still good.
This is not why they are really good in high keys; Aug does not do a lot of dps in keys, even with insane dps players being buffed.
The reason I listed above is the reason they’re so brokenly OP.
It’s still not better than a third cracked dps, but it’s less of a hindrance than it is now.
Right but you said they make keys safe, that doesn’t explain their dps. I wasn’t just adding my own flavor text of “brokenly op” that’s something icy veins specifically stated themselves, regarding dps. Not utility. DAMAGE.

I just re-read my OP to make sure I wasn’t stroking out and typed something else entirely, I did in fact not include “DPS” in my post. My comment and the entire point of this thread was to ask why their damage was so strong, based on the picture linked.
Yes, and if you google “Mythic+ DPS tier list season 4 Dragonflight”, Augmentation is S tier there as well, despite doing very poor damage. That’s because a “DPS tier list” is ranking DPS specs.
It’s not ranking where you stand on the logs or in Details, it’s ranking how strong you are in the role your spec fills in any given current season.
The tier list you’re citing literally answers the question you came to the forums to ask. From that list:
Augmentation Evoker is looking fantastic in the current Beta build, as it seems developers are sacrificing some of their "overpowered" support capabilities (buffing allies) to enhance personal damage. Yes, you will be just as useful to your allies, with great utility, good mob control, and further bolstering their DPS/defensive profiles, but this time, you will do more damage yourself. On top of this, they have gained a few more defensive options, depending on the choice of Hero Talents, and maintain excellent mobility. Overall, we are delighted with the spec's current performance and expect it to be one of the strongest DPS choices in the upcoming The War Within expansion.
This is not a tier list that’s saying ‘Augmentation will be unrivaled for dps throughput’.
It’s an overview of how strong the spec is overall for the content in question, in its role (dps), not where they sit on a dps chart.
For reference, Critcake was absolutely dumpstering every other spec he played beta keys with as Fury. It was leagues ahead of every other spec in dps. However, you don’t see it topping the list (it’s #6) because it brings very little to a key outside of pure throughput. If this were a list that simply rated dps contribution, the order would be completely different.
There’s a section of that same tier list that states “Criteria for this tier list” where they explain what actually goes into these decisions.
This works for me. But now the whole reason I looked up dps charts is unanswered. I was wanting to know which specs are where in relation to other specs. =\
TBH, this is going to probably change many times before season 1 actually launches. Any work you put into that now is likely going to be a waste of time because it will shift as final/early tuning passes continue.
Sure and that’s fine and expected but I still wanna know. Even speculative lists are interesting to look at. Theorycrafting is fun.
Mostly because I expected Devastation to be one of the top, and Fire Mage to also be one of the top. Apparently Arcane is looking the best for mage and I really haven’t heard much about Devastation.
Agreed, it’s most of what I enjoy in this game.
There are far smarter evoker players than myself in the evoker discord (Wyrmrest Temple), if you aren’t already in there I suggest hopping in, checking out the channels that you’re interested in, reading the pins for some more basic info, and asking your questions there.
If you’re just looking to decide if dev or Aug will do more DPS, I can say with a fair degree of certainty that devastation will do more pure DPS.
If you’re just hanging out in the KSH range and don’t care about going super hard or getting title, you’ll probably continue to see better DPS out of dev, especially as flameshaper.
That said, if you mostly pug and don’t mind Aug, you will almost certainly have a better time getting into groups if you’re willing to play it because community perception of the spec is that it’s broken even in lower keys.
I was in there very briefly and wasn’t a big fan of them mocking other players openly (so openly that there are bot commands to automate it.)
I kinda have been muddling back and forth between the two, I enjoy Dev more but is Aug ends up being silly strong I would be silly myself not to play it. It’s fun enough I would main it.
This has been my take for months too, Flameshaper Devastation just looks so much better and Bombardments could do 500% more damage and still fall off hard.
I don’t pug super often, part of why I ended up doing M+ more than I ever have in years is because I found good guilds to run with. I would like to push but finding KSH minded people seems much easier, finding people who want to put the effort to push 3k+ seems much harder (at least for me it has been)
There is not even one person playing this in my guild. Also I have not seen any in my mythic runs
I mean, that doesn’t change that they’re incredibly strong, they’re just not good in the key levels you’re doing.
also i don’t think are fun for anyone to play one , unless a raid leader pigeon hole someone there .
It’s fun, it’s just not as obvious how impactful your contributions are very immediately.
“No one I know plays this spec, and I never see it in dungeons”
“Despite not knowing anyone that plays it or even seeing anyone play it, I don’t think it’s fun”.
Got it, makes perfect sense.
kinda does , if people were loving it , or found it OP then I would see it all over the content I am doing. but no it’s not there.
There’s almost an identical amount of Aug players as devastation this season, and had more last season…
Also, you don’t do keys even close to high enough for Aug to be good, so it makes sense that you personally aren’t seeing them.
That doesn’t mean they aren’t good or fun.
it kinda does . stop copying what streamers say about world first race . people want to actually do damage, see their names on the board and kill the monster . yes at the content i am doing , you probably will buff someone that will die . so no aug is not OP , it’s OPness is very relevant
