Why all the Void elf hate?

It doesn’t matter what happened in WC3, it’s just ridiculous for horde players to act like they’re getting the short end of the stick because they only had exclusive access to the most attractive race in the game for about a decade instead of for all of time. Even now blood elves still look better; the customization options for void elves are so trash by comparison (especially for the dudes)

Don’t worry, this is just an issue on these forums with certain users. The overall sentiment worldwide does agreed upon giving the Alliance the High Elves as a subrace (which they got now), otherwise they wouldn’t have given into the request. A few posters on the US-forums have no power to make the change alone, it was worldwide in every WoW-related forum discussed.

Most attractive is completely subjective.

They mostly have the same options.

Either way, you’re not listening to my points you just want to complain because you feel like the Alliance aren’t getting enough love from Blizzard, when that’s obviously not true.

And, yes, the events of WC3 do matter because we saw Blizzard base multiple expansions on what happened in those games.

It would have made sense if they were given High Elves instead of Void Elves. Blizzard could have solved Alliance player retention issues and did some fan service with High Elves, but they went for Void Elves for some reason. I’m assuming they did this because High Elves and Blood Elves would be too similar, but they then went and gave Void Elves almost all of the Blood Elf customization options and ruined that either way.

Nobody cares about WC3; the average new WoW player is not getting into this game after first playing an RTS from over 20 years ago. If anything more people are coming here from FFXIV than WC3.

WC3 is old news, and the extent to which the content of the first few expansions are based on it is highly overrated. IIRC the lore said there aren’t supposed to be female night elf druids but somehow they managed to get them into the game anyway

This literally doesn’t matter, because we’re talking about the devs and their mindset from 20 years ago… so your point doesn’t make any sense here.

The expansions literally follow the events of what happened in those games. How is that overrated (exaggerated)?

As far as I remember, the main developer was a woman who simply thought that the Void Elves were a cool and mysterious concept. I think there are still twitter postings about these online but I never could find them.

In my eyes, and of my brothers, the Void Elves should have never happened until the Midnight expansion. They could have been a new player race/class but all what they achieved was a daily four-year posting war on the US-forums (which is absolutely insane, if you think about it), showing everyone that it was absolutely wrong to give the Alliance not their requested High Elves.

The Blood Elf-players never had actual claims on High Elves to begin with, which was the irony on the whole thing. The Alliance is the only faction who have actual High Elf based reputation rewards and an army, which has been active for most expansions. And the argument with the “too similar” goes automatically out of the window due the Pandaren and Drak’thyr. Why should it only bother to the elf-players?

I personally think the Void Elves are very cool. I love the idea of corruption themed customizations.

I’d like Blizzard to lean more into their Void themed identity. They’re going to have opportunity to do it going into the next expansions if we end up dealing with more Old God or Void themed zones and characters.

Highly likely. But they abandoned the Void Elves for now, because it is seen by Blizzard as a failed race through and through, for very good and valid reasons. They didn’t even give them their heritage weapons, which have been locked away for +6 years now. And they don’t have a racial flying mount as well. An absolute failure of a race.

Most players I encounter on AD-EU are definitely High Elf-players with Quel’dorei tags and names. Maybe the Void Elves are generally accepted better on regular servers.

There’s literally like 20 void elves in the lore and they made a whole race to appease high elves people. I think it was pretty stupid to make a whole race just for that. I don’t even think the Horde should have gotten the nightborns. We had enough elves.

The undead says what? :joy: If there was ever a reason for elves to never join the Horde… oh, but it’s the Toymaker meme isn’t it?

TM: You scarred the land we called home, razed half our beautiful city to the ground, and committed genocide against our people!
Doctor: But Sylvanas usurped our kingdom!
TM: WELL THAT’S ALL RIGHT THEN

Elves didn’t join the Horde in WC3. Half of them stayed in the Alliance, and the other half effed off to Outland with Kael to become edgy villains after he and Illidan failed to kill Arthas. :man_shrugging:

Most that aren’t blue just wanna be High Elves and are willing to race change if High Elves come in Midnight.

The funny thing is that high elves don’t exist anymore. It’s like saying you’re a citizen of Constantinople, you can but that doesn’t mean you are or that it makes sense. The high elves renamed to blood elves. We would have to go back in time to get high elves.

More High Elves exist than Void Elves, dude.

it’s a deprecated term, they don’t technically exist.

This discussion always comes up, I’ll give you the actual facts:

  1. The High Elves have an army within the Alliance, called the Silver Covenant. They are a regular story contributor in most expansions. The Alliance-players can get exalted with them and earn High Elf tabards and mounts.
  2. The High Elves have settlements in the Dwarven regions, although the state of them is unknown since Cataclysm
  3. Not all Blood Elves are High Elves, many High Elves within the Alliance-region never joined the Horde, which is why they are requested as a player race.

Yes, they actually do.

The Silver Covenant is entirely High Elven only. Stormwind and Dalaran are home to High Elves as well.

Vereesa leads the High Elves and lead the Silver Covenant out of Dalaran to officially join the Alliance proper.

The High Elves also lead their own forces in the Siege of Orgrimmar (both times) and in Suramar.

The silver covenant is a group of rebel blood elves.
It doesn’t mean that you have to be in the Horde to be a blood elf.

If a human joined the Horde he would still be a human.

High Elves, specifically under Dalaran’s Silver Covenant and their associated hero-character Vereesa Windrunner.

High Elves that have never been Blood Elves are are definitely not void elves have always existed in this setting. They’ve been present in Stormwind since classic. It’s just reality.

This might be the case but they are a canon npc-army, which is required to earn the 100 exalted reputation achievement. This is indisputable and needs to be accepted.

They are a distinct group. Even void elves are blood elves.

When a term change it affects everyone, you can decide to go against the majority but that only makes you a rebel not a different race. The race renamed itself to blood elves, you can choose to be a citizen of Constantinople but that doesn’t make sense.
