This entire post is first-hand experience. I’m leaving the World of Warcraft because it’s been a very unsupportive community full of negativity, back-stabbing, and hatred. I tried streaming it for many years and got precisely no where no matter what I tried, or what attitude I had. I recall when I did a legal name change to The Streamer an employee told me of some negative internal reaction with-in Blizzard to me doing that which kinda shined a light on the streaming industry itself. It’s not the sort of place where you make a name for yourself. Instead you’re expecting to kiss the shoes of those above you; not do something new that gets attention.
Overall I am very disappointed in my experience from seeing some screenshots of stuff people have said about me on Discord servers in the WoW community and being told by other streamers to never talk to them again for no apparent reason.
There’s a lot of slander, non-sense, and negativity going on that I want absolutely no part of. I’ve been gratuitously black-balled left and right yet kept my head held high full of confidence not letting that get me down and continuing to be a member of this community. No longer. I deserve to be in a place where I can meet new people, have fun, grow, and be happy.
There are many other video game communities out there where such a thing is fathomable. This is not that. To anyone considering playing WoW I’d encourage you to try another game with a better community that treats it’s members like other people with the golden rule in mind.
This is a statement of the facts and I will not be coming back to reply to replies or nothing. I’m putting no more effort into this game and severing all ties to it. The only way I’d ever come back to it is if the community was a supportive and positive place where you could have fun and people looked at you assuming good intent.
My mom died last year and all I kept thinking about was all the time I put into the game, streaming, and making YouTube videos that I could have spent with her. I’ve also considered all the years of time I could have spent instead doing something that’d improve my real life situation. Overall I feel this has been a complete waste of time and I accept I cannot change how I’m treated because of the destructive slander floating around about me which I have seen through screenshots shared with me from fans.
As to Blizzard and the state of WoW I am disappointed that they let go of all those employees from the company a while back. It’s totally opposite of when the WoW team first started and they were doing so much for the employees they were paid off a line of credit. Times have changed, people have changed, and the community has changed for the worst unfortunately.
I’d like to thank those of you who are in the WoW community who are positive people that do things that have a positive impact on others; you’re more than this community deserves.
Regards,
Thestreamer
