You are the only one viewing them releasing the servers at 6pm EST as a screw up.
Why’d you ask the question and then answer it?
If you really thought “let’s time the launch to avoid part of our playerbase!” was something they would aim for, I…wow. I don’t know what to say to that.

It’s like you’re asking why stores don’t close the week before Christmas and open the week after Christmas to avoid those troublesome crowds of customers.
So you happen to have nothing on your schedule at noon and want less of a crowd for your login? Better solution might just be roll a gnome or undead on an RP server and take your chances in the lower pop areas.
6pm EST is fine for me. The east coasters get to login while everyone else is trapped at work or using vacation days.
As for waiting for the school year to launch, that sucks too. I’d rather they do these launches the first week of summer when many of us have more time in our day instead of the last week. Always feels like a double edge sword wishing launchday would get here but wishing summer wouldn’t end. (I have a regular 9-5 type job in the EST time zone, but have to get up earlier during the school year to make sure kid gets to school. School year also always seems crowded with stuff.)
The real way to handle crowds isn’t to launch when nobody’s around, but to ensure enough servers and infrastructure to handle the crowds.
Edit: and the PST people at work might be fine with missing the initial queue surge too, who knows. If they really wanted to avoid crowds, they should go for like 3am EST Tuesday morning. I suppose you didn’t suggest that one because you’d be asleep then. Not sure if I’m cranky or this post feels snowflakey, but I wish we still had the downvote button…
Wow, you literally just gave the argument for why you need to delete your post right now. Someone does have to lose. In your eyes, EST is losing on this specific launch time. We’ve already gone into why it’s impossible to split launch times by timezone and that it has to be a global launch at the same time, if you can’t comprehend it, I don’t know what to tell you.
Well, that remains to be seen. I guess we’ll soon find out.

EST isn’t losing, though. They’re all going to be home from work and school clogging up the servers for everyone. So, again, I doubt anyone will actually win. The servers will be down all day probably and have problems continuing through the week.
