That is literally the time most everyone is off from work and school. It’s just asking for all the EST servers to be crushed, which also seem to be the most popular.
If I was a shot caller, I’d open up the servers a few hours earlier before all of those people got off of work and school to stagger the influx of payers into the server. It just seems like that would make more sense.
Instead of 6PM EST (3PM PDT) the launch could occur at 12PM EST (9AM PDT) and avoid a large chunk of the overall player base. Considering the overflow of the most popular servers it doesn’t seem cruel to do that, but more of a necessity at this point in my opinion.
Thoughts?
Where I am, public school starts on this coming Wednesday. Waiting a week to launch would have also allowed for more staggering of influx, since I suspect most schools in the United States are going to start this upcoming week.
If you are working on Monday I wouldnt plan to play on one of the full servers.
You will be number 5000 in the queue.
Also i bet A LOT of people are taking off monday from work to log in, so “server start time” is pretty irrelevant
That’s always a horrible idea, though. People who do that usually waste their day off since they usually won’t even get into the game on a newly launched MMO. I thought people were smarter now. It’s like how people used to line up for new consoles and camp over night and now everyone just gets same day delivery from Amazon. Play smarter not harder.

People are going to start logging in on saturday/sunday to jump the queue…

Maybe it is, but it does give you an edge.
The people who are the first to log in to a full server that took the day off wont think it was a waste of time, especially when there will be people waiting 20+ hours in a queue.
I actually kind of hope they take the servers down for like 5 minutes and then bring them right back up to prevent the " I logged in 2 days early and used an autoclicker etc to dodge the afk timeout"

Based on previous launches, I would not be surprised if alot of players were unable to get in until late at night or the next day.
because that’s when they decided

This is why I suggested 3AM, not 3PM
Because this is a worldwide launch, and the world does not revolve around you and the Eastern Time Zone? UTC+8 is the timezone with the most people in the world, where Classic launches at 8:00am on the 27th. Notice how Blizzard states the official launch as the 27th too?
So self-righteous…

All the more reason to stagger world release times. To release these over flowing servers at a time when almost everyone is going to be home from work and school is not ideal for anyone.
You really dont understand how timezones work do you?

Because they noticed in my big black book that I’m living in CEST now and barely sleep.
Obviously it’s catering to me.
Because for whatever reason Blizz times global launches to midnight GMT instead of midnight Blizzard Time (Pacific)
So they can do work all day (West Coast) and ‘flip the switch’ while they are still in the office (West Coast).
Maybe.

Regardless of what time zone you live in, when the servers are released etc…
THE FULL SERVERS WILL HAVE A QUEUE IN THE FIRST 15 SECONDS OF THEM LAUNCHING.
We all know Asmongold is going to be logged in at 6PM EST, and by 6:04PM EST he’s going to be level 2.
I notice that the EST servers in the United States are the most popular and most overcrowded, and they are being opened up when EST players are off of work and school. Is it difficult to comprehend how inefficient that is?
At least I’ll have something to watch while I’m in queue.
Just because the server is listed as EST I bet a majority of the people playing on it are not EST.
Making the launch time completely irrelevant.
Notice how when you look at a map of the universe, that your timezone isn’t in the centre of it?
