Hey folks!
Can we get some ideas as to what or why a 4 hour window is needed for scheduled maintenance?
We are use to 1 hour window.
Surely at this point after more than a decade, and the release of pre-patch, a 4 hour window opens a topic for discussion.
What is broken now, or what will be broken after 4 hours of tinkering once again?

Given the amount of random bugs, probably a lot of patching/hotfixing in the works

If they need 4 hours, let them have 4 hours. They don’t like downtime any more than we do.

We would like more transparency as paying clients.

It’s better than the old whole day maintenance.

They needed the extra 3 hours to announce the Cyberpunk delay.

They’re probably doing extended work on the servers in preparation for the pre-expansion event and the expansion itself, and instead of taking the server down for an extended period one day, they’re staggering it over multiple weeks.
That and/or whatever bugs popped up from prepatch, mostly phasing issues with assorted questgivers.
Your guess is as good as mine.

Probably because they just launched a pre-patch and received higher than normal bug reports?

I dont know about you, but coming from vanilla since launch what I got used to was 12 hour windows lol
Not really… I don’t care. I understand though that, like you, I don’t speak for everybody.
Should’ve told him to make it 24 hours.
Hopefully it’s to fix the server issues. The lag (especially in Draenor timeline) is real. I’d imagine they were fixing those issues which would explain the long maintenance. But just be prepared for this to happen every week between now and probably a month after SL is released.

Right?
I bet OP didn’t even play way back when WOW went down for an entire day / day and a half and didn’t come back up until it was done with maintenance, and nobody complained!

Could be. It is important to point out that the server maintenance doesn’t mean they’re tinkering with the game itself. As you pointed out, they do that via live hotfixes or patches. This isn’t a patch. This could well be that they’re replacing hardware or updating server software.
