It’s an annoying waste of time, just let me log out. Or at least change it to 5 seconds or something.
So far my guess is that you don’t want people accidentally logging out during a raid fight or something. So why not do 5 seconds to log out when you’re in-combat and 0 seconds to log out when you’re out-of-combat?
Also as far as I know you can’t even log out in-combat.

I agree. But I want to switch characters then I have to reload the whole thing 
I know it’s a small thing to complain about but it’s annoying and the seconds really add up.

Prob something to do with how the game saves the file. IDK.
But if you just alt F4 in the world, your body will be there for 20s. So, with WM on, you can still be killed.

AFAIK you can’t log out when you’re moving/falling or in combat. How else would you die?
It’s so you can’t run away from PvP until you leave combat and then just instantly log…or log as soon as you see someone running toward you. Elite Dangerous doesn’t have this function and people just alt+f4 right when they’re about to die. It ruins PvP.

Pvp for one. If you see someone coming your way just log out.

From my understanding it is a relic from the pvp server days so you couldn’t just simply log out and avoid pvp ‘situations’… Even if you alt-f4 your character will remain in game and can be killed.

Nobody cares if you wpvp or if you want the feature. There isn’t a good enough reason to change it just because you find it inconvenient.

Remember if you force exit or alt f4 you still are technically in game for 20 seconds, you just can’t see it. So if someone engages you in combat…you dead.

This has been a thing since MMOs began to exist I think. The reason is so that you don’t just log out while in pvp or you pull too many enemies. It’s also so you find somewhere safe to logout instead of doing it in the middle of an enemy camp or something.
It doesn’t take long and it’s making sure you log all the way out without getting attacked in the process.
Otherwise you’d love out and your character would stand there helplessly if someone or an npc attacks you.

It’s also so that you can’t avoid deaths by resetting mobs guaranteed to kill you by simply logging out.
But mostly the PvP thing.

Quick logouts outside of rested areas are cringe. Just look at what that type of unrestricted gameplay affords people like with Path of Exile in hardcore modes. All of them make logout macros to avoid dying and losing their characters. Thus GGG has to create gameplay that compensates for that type of behavior. Ultimately ruining for everyone else that doesn’t use the quick logout.
Just find a rested area like you have been for 16 years or roll vulperan (I think they can use their camp as a rested area).
