I love Archaeology as well, Chiquitita!
Holy fudge first guess!
Lol!
Iām logging my Mail, Alysiel on to like this! Iām all out of Likes!
(Bah, spoke too soon. Just getting a spinny icon when I try to change character! Soon.)
I was the same wayā¦ until i tried out a male Dwarf for the first time.
Male Goblins are pretty awesome, I prefer playing them over female.
I levelled a Male Goblin Hunter to level 85 during Cata.
Who are you?
Iām Angeni A senior lady, and veteran player (ya, one of those). I have many faces in the game, 49 to be exact!
What types of things do you like to do in WoW?
I stay subscribed for pet battles, I love those little guys! I also enjoy the challenge of leveling, making money to buy battle pets on the AH, and the rare enjoyable encounters I have with other players.
What do you wish would be added or changed?
Iād like to see an optional path to flying each expansion where players can choose to either do the pathfinder achievement OR buy flying on each character at max level. Either that or a kinder pathfinder achievement that is not time-gated, and less frustrating.
I would like to see player housing on the scale of Ultima Onlineās players housing but I dont think it will ever happen.
Lots of other stuff, but Iām not going to write a novel.
What do you like about the forums?
I like seeing what people are thinking. However, I wish we still had a way to block negative people from our feed, like we use to do before they changed to this format.
I really like it when someone from Blizzard actually chimes in and gives us some info on the why, what ifs, and how comes?
who are you
Iām Lifeline, but guildies know me as Manlion or Lion as Iāve only really played this and my Paladin of that name.
what you like ta do
I like to play casually and just find ways I can optimise my character while still sticking to m10 and Heroic level raids. I also like generally messing about with friends and ābeing usefulā so I keep a set of tanking gear too!
what would you like to be changed or added
Iām new but so far nothing has stood out to me as needing to be changed. There is one thing I would be really grateful for; if void elves were able to customise to have fair skin like Alleria does. Though better to not beat glue with a club at this point
what do you like about the forums
So much!
Getting different opinions, slightly RP nature of it, the whole randomness of it. Letās be real there isnāt necessarily much productivity here but thatās probably has what made WoW great. Forums are a community unhindered by server or faction.
Thank you for reading, and thanks for making this thread, Rhielle.
Welcome! Glad everyone is enjoying it!
It was a good thread Rhielle, enjoyed reading through it.
OH YEAH WELL IāM NOT ENJOYING IT BECAUSE ITāS MY NATURE TO BE CONTRARY AND RIGHT NOW THATāS HOW IāM CHOOSING TO BEHAVE

Great now that song is in my headā¦
Who are you?
Rainye. Lord of Squids A Synesthete/Chromesthete (I heal by color) although Iāve discovered I have at least 8 different forms of synesthesia including emotional mirror-touch and Auditory-Tactile. Originally from Australia living in the United States.
What kinds of things do you like about WoW?
The userbase, Iāve met a lot of interesting people here. Some in real life (including my current girlfriend who Iāve been with since September).
What do you wish would be added or changed?
The raid dynamics being less tank and spank and more finesse orientated. Knowing your toon should be a heavy involvement not just gear/spec. At least in my opinion.
What do you like about the forums?
The variety of perspectives. Its fascinating to read the different viewpoints.
Male goblins are great . THis toon was one from Cata until I race changed ( just wanted something different )
Iām Tanner.
Almost no one I talk to long-term actually calls me by usernames or character names, mostly because I canāt seem to stick to one. Iāve made multiple attempts to stick to a single character or name for most of my posts on these forums, but so far havenāt been able to resist the urge to swap it to a character Iām more interested in at the time of posting. I tend to last maybe a couple months before swapping. Sometimes itāll end up back on one Iāve used previously, but nonetheless, it changes.
So, despite being varying levels of active on here since early MoP, itās unlikely anyone would recognize me by (any) name on here unless they had just recently seen me.
This name here is my most recent and most thorough attempt at consolidating my internet presence under one name across the board. Iāve made new accounts and changed existing accounts and emails for everything I could think of (barring Facebook, which would be kind of odd, if I actually used it in the first place).
My first 2 mains that would have posted here would have been Tori [Human Paladin] and Kharra [Draenei Shaman]. More recently, I have posted on Chetal [Pandaren Warrior], Vivikaide [Draenei Paladin], and Galiena [Worgen Rogue]. And thatās just a small selection.
Itās not something I thought about a lot until more recently in the grand scheme of things. But, broadly, I enjoy progression.
Gear is the most obvious way for me to feel like my character is progressing. The numbers go up through my effort in obtaining said gear, and that new gear unlocks the ability for me to pursue further content to make the numbers go up even more.
It gives me goals and more of a purpose in playing. If Iām not chasing power progression, I tend to feel like Iām wasting my time, and it becomes harder to justify playing.
My personal progression has historically been done through Heroic Raiding (Normal Raiding before the naming scheme changed). Itās always been something Iāve done with a set group at set days and times over the course of months.
That aside, I have dabbled in RP on a handful of occasions. I enjoy it, but have trouble convincing myself to stick with a character concept, much like my issue here on the forums, so I end up roleplaying in ~2 week stints then dropping off the face of the earth for awhile before trying again. The last time was literally during WoDās lull, so itās been awhile now. At least THAT time it was the Guild that disappeared, not me.
What might surprise some of you based on what Iāve said so far is that I have -always- stuck with my main(s) for the entirety of an expansion when it comes to actual gameplay. I didnāt like changing things up on my raid group (despite some others wanting to change constantly), so I stuck it out for 2 years at a time. Sometimes Iād have more than one active character, but Iād never abandon the one I started with. Names changes? Yes. Main changes? No.
Oh boy.
If Iām being honest, Iām VERY disenchanted with WoW at the moment, and have been for the greater part of a year now. As much as I want to enjoy the game, I havenāt truly played since August. Iāve made alts and RP characters and boosts to TRY and spark some interest, and itās just not working. Iām at the point where Iām not expecting to be around after the first couple months of Shadowlands if things donāt change (and I plan to unsub shortly after 8.3 drops until Shadowlands hits as well). Soā¦ here we go!
Casual Content Rewards
You know how I mentioned I enjoyed power progression and that my primary form of it was Heroic Raiding?Yeah. Maybe you can already guess where my issues sit.
Iām of the opinion that mid-tier content (like Mythic ~4-10 dungeons and Normal / Heroic raiding) is being infringed upon by Solo & Entry-level group content (like World/Emissary Quests, World Bosses, Benthic Gearing, Warfronts, Against Overwhelming Odds, Timewalking Raids, and the Timewalking and Mythic 0 Dungeon events).
Emissary Quests reward 415. Against Overwhelming Odds rewarded 400 when Heroic Raiding rewarded 400, and is now 415 when Normal Raiding is 415. The Warfront Quest has always rewarded Heroic Raiding ilvl. The Mythic 0 Dungeon Quest has always rewarded Heroic Raiding ilvl. The Timewalking Raids and Dungeon Quests have always rewarded Normal Raiding ilvl. World Bosses started out rewarding Heroic Raiding ilvl and now reward Normal Raiding ilvl. Benthic Gear (essentially World Quests) rewards JUST shy of Heroic Raiding ilvl, but is realistically stronger in an actual Raid setting due to the unique effects.
All of that is content thatās easily completed totally solo or with a group that has very little idea what theyāre doing, and in many cases can be queued for, or could be at some point (see: Warfronts).
And it ranges from Normal to Heroic Raids (~4 to ~10 Mythic+) in terms of rewards.
So whatās my incentive to spend months working on raid progression with my team when thatās sitting out there? I enjoy raiding and playing with my group, but I need to both enjoy the content AND feel rewarded for completing it to want to participate in said content.
I think the amount of āfreebiesā offered in BfA is way too high and should be toned down in the future.
Perhaps the Timewalking Quest should simply reward a large sum of that currency, and the Mythic 0 Quest should reward a large sum of the equivilent of Titan Residuum if they keep a similar system in the future. Perhaps Warfronts should be the time sensitive LFR-alternative they were at launch baseline instead of relying on an inflated carrot on a stick to get people to participate.
And I never want to see a Benthic-like system ever again. At least not in terms of reward levels. Itās fine to have that sort of progression for casual players, but it shouldnāt scale up to essentially Heroic Raiding without the difficulty of content raising along with it.
Itās okay for casual progression to end at an earlier point than higher-end progression.
Mythic+ Efficiency
So this one is basically the opposite end of the previous issue I had.I enjoy Mythic+. I think itās fun. I think itās great that Dungeons have a reason to stay relevant for more than the ~3 weeks of pre-raid gearing. Awesome.
But recently, due to this and other issues I have with current endgame design, I ended up calling it quits on my Raid Team. Therefore, I jumped headfirst into Mythic+ as my primary form of progression.
It was rewarding the exact same level of gear for what I see as significantly less time and effort, so I thought, why not? As things stood at that point, I was only wearing like 2 pieces of raid gear anyway because the rest was coming from the tiny amount of Mythic+ I already did and the many freebie sources.
So, yeah, thatās what I did.
This happened right at the start of patch 8.2.
And you know what happened? I geared up HELLA fast.
I know you all know, but Mythic+ rewards Heroic Raid levels of gear. With no lockout. You can spam it all day. It requires basically 0 progression and minimal coordination. And you get that level of gear.
So by the 3rd week of the patch, I had reached the equivilent of the ilvl I had got in the previous patch by raiding over the course of 4-5 months. And I was done. My goals were met. I wasnāt (and still am not) interested in Mythic Raiding, which is the only place that will drop higher ilvl loot, so I was done.
Less than a month into the patch.
Thatās effectively the last time I actually played WoW.
I think itās obvious why I feel thatās not good for the game. Mythic+ is simply 1000% more efficient than any other means of gearing. Yes, entry level stuff scales up very close to the soft cap for Mythic+ gear, but that at least takes some time. With Mythic+, you can get that gear in a single weekend if you were dedicated to it.
Why is that acceptable? Why was Mythic+ not designed to fall more in line with other forms of content? It needs Something to reduce itās efficiency in the future. There are a couple routes that could be taken, but I donāt feel that I need to get into them here. I just wanted to make my case.
The Gating of Allied Races and Pathfinder
This is one that probably a lot more people will actually agree with me on.
Let's start with Allied Races.
The idea of unlocking rewards by playing the game is totally fine. But when it comes to unlocking literally the character you will be playing, it's terrible.Letās look at it from the lens of a new player who has seen WoW advertised and has seen an Allied Race on the box or banner or whatever that they already know they want to play.
Whatās their process look like?
- Buy the game. Make a character that ISNāT what they want to play after learning what they wanted is locked behind some arbitrary endgame grind.
- Level this unwanted character from 1 to cap so they can start working on unlocking what they wanted.
- Grind rep for roughly 3 weeks every day, longer if they canāt log in every day for an hour or so.
- Yay! Done! They can make the character they wanted in the first place now!
- Waste their āfreeā level boost that comes with BfA on this character, provided they donāt care about Heirloom Armor. If they do, blow it on the unwanted character instead and level from scratch here.
- Waste another 3 weeks re-doing the exact rep grinds theyāve already done to catch up with their endgame progress on the main they wanted in the first place.
- Now the game begins.
Thatās a freaking mess. Itās terrible. Itās a good way to turn people away from the game immediately when they figure out thatās what the process is going to look like.
And you know what? The process isnāt any different for existing players that were coming into WoD. Itās just that their āunwantedā character started 10 levels from cap instead of 120.
The system results in repetitive and redundant gameplay that does nothing but waste time and frustrate players. The only demographic the current Allied Race unlock system actually works for are players who have zero interest in maining a new Allied Race but who might want an alt at some point in the future. Those people can work on it slowly over time and not lose out on anything.
But itās designed as if thatās 100% of the playerbase, when itās absolutely not.
Allied Races should have been customization options in the baseline character creation from the get go. They could have even kept them exclusive by not mixing existing customizations with the variations.
ie: Choose Stormwind Human or KT Human when you hit the āHumanā button at creation.
And now let's look at Pathfinder.
This one is probably the most straight-forward, easy to explain issue in this post. Basically, I have no issue with Pathfinder as a concept. It forces you to see the new content in its entirety before you can start hopscotching over it constantly. I don't even have an issue with the rep grind portion. It lets slower players finish their base leveling / new patch content at their own pace before they have to worry about people flying over them beating them to objectives or ganking them in Warmode. But the actual issue?
That 8-12 month gap between Part 1 and Part 2, in which only Part 2 actually unlocks flight.
Thatās total bullcrap.
As the OP also said, I support the idea of Part 1 unlocking flight for base zones, and Part 2 just existing as a means of unlocking flight for patch zones. Thatās the ONLY reason there should even be 2 parts to begin with.
Boom. Done.
(FWIW, Pathfinder is one of my smaller issues. I think itās handled very poorly, but I also see flight as totally optional and not a big deal. I enjoy having it, but find that people who threaten to unsub over it are a bit overly dramatic)
I have some other issues (class design, etc), but tbh thatās minor in comparison to the first 2 points.
At the end of the day, I just like the interaction with people who care about this shared interest as much as I do. I may be in a bad place with the game right now, but that doesnāt mean itās not a bigger part of my life than it has any right to be. I may not always be the most positive poster, but I enjoy interacting here.
I said earlier that I havenāt truly played since Augustā¦
ā¦ but Iāve been posting here consistently regardless.
Scott, this here is my main character Bakkian, first max level and been playing him for about 6 years.
Super big into mount farming and transmog but I also like to max my character out in gear and do pvp and aotc.
I like alt flexibility which has been severely reduced these past couple expansions with more character progression compared to gear previously being the only barrier. I want more player agency as well, 2handed frost!
people post interesting stuff and sometimes I see things here that make me excited to play the game. I mostly come for the community tho.
Brahmina
Collect mounts and pets. Chase achieves. Do quests. Level alts. Do holidays. Run dungeons with my friends. Fish. Fly. (<== not the same thing as fly fishing.)
I would like all the portals back. And I want them to leave some sort of brutosaur mount for me to buy from the vendor. I want my water striders to walk on water without mount equipment. I want my camel lips changed to cow lips (and more character customization for all races). I want granular guild permissions so GMās can run their guilds however they want. Even though I donāt raid, I think guilds should have the master loot option back. I want Pathfinder part one to award flight without having to wait for a second part. I want appearances to be transmoggable year-round (especially the bronze sunglasses). I want Blizzard to actually implement the new and improved communication skills they keep saying theyāre going to use. I want Shadowlands to be the best expansion everābecause I donāt know if I can take any more disappointments.
All the other posters.
Who are you?
I go by many names from Wolfsheart my 120 Alliance here to Somberdawn my 120 Pandaren Horde alt among others but mostly I am just me.
What types of things do you like to do in WoW?
Right now just world quests on Wolfs here sometimes I log Somber to work Horde side on quests and story but mostly killing time waiting for 8.3.
What do you wish would be added or changed?
No more trash finder let us fly at max level again for gold, Vulperas before Christmas are two I would change.
What do you like about the forums?
Guess not much anymore since a lot have left and GD is always a whine fest.
I am Sev.
I like forgetting what Iām supposed to be saying and rambling on for a little bit and then finally collapsing in my shower and crying into my kids open shampoo containers so that theyāll be washing their hair with my sadness. I think itāll help reduce tangles also. Ohhhhhā¦ I gotta go, itās almost their bed time.
kisses cheek Youāre adorable.
Sounds like you might need a sounding board. Someone to help you find what interests you the most. I have a lot of characters Iāll RP with, but only a couple I stick with, because of my interest and attachment to their storylines. Sometimes it just takes a while to find that connection.
