My main through the years was a human (now worgen) warlock, so in Classic, I’ll be playing him as he was in the past.
Either human or gnome warlock for me. I’ll probably end up with a SM/Ruin build as I did before.
Remember as a warlock: If you can fear it, you can kill it.
That’s a really strange way to spell Orc, must be a dialect type thing.
Now that someone brought up a Machine Gun Imp, I seriously want to try it with a Shadow Mastery build.
I just want to try something other than SM/Ruin.
/Sigh
I don’t understand why no one mentions drain tanking builds for leveling. It’s really the way to go imo but so few guides mention it anymore. Seems like a lost art I suppose.
Lower damage output (vs dot/wand), higher threat generation (via healing aggro from draining), less mana efficient (vs wand), and less capable of multi pulling via the combination of those factors.
That being said, drain tank-leveling IS entirely viable, and still a significantly faster way to go than most classes are capable of… I believe there was a drain-tank leveling build focused on the succubus talents + dark pact talent for optimizing dps/mana efficiency. It was mostly single target centric, however and I don’t have a specific link to it…
I’d also add, that locks, despite being favored to use a wand like all casters (which will greatly outdps most of your spells early on), are probably the only caster that doesn’t necessarily NEED one to level efficiently because of the drain life/lifetap interaction, and improved drain soul procs. It’s just not as fast as dot/wand setups.
Higher threat generation is irrelevant because you are face tanking the mob. You have all the aggro except maybe early levels where your imp pulls for a second.
Maybe you’re thinking of something different from what I am?
The build and method I’m thinking of takes 5/5 fel concentration asap. You can open with a SB. Dot the mob as it approaches then drain life. Imp is preferred the whole way through and doesn’t even attack once you get dark pact. Then it’s just a mana battery.
The build was perfected for TBC imo giving you improved howl etc
It’s also great for pvp.
For first few levels from say 5 -till whenever wand is best friend like any caster.
As far as multiple mobs i never found it a problem. Fear one as usual if things get crazy.
I think it’s really efficient and strong. Does take some practice though.
Anyway that’s how I did it. But maybe there’s a better way.
Referencing multi mob pulls…
The dot/wand method lets you hold 3 mobs at once without ever needing to stop/slow down.
Your VW is tanking one, while one is feared, and the third is dying on it’s way to you from the VW because your wand finally rips aggro off as your VW is on the new mob that it is tanking.
When you start hitting drain life in there as well, it overaggros the mob your VW is on too early and reduces efficiency.
My go-to on Alliance is Gnome for casters. Feels weird to pick anything else, IMO. Racials are good. Int and escape artist are boss.
Plus they look epic in caster gear. Easily my fav race next to Undead.
If my memory serves me correctly, warlock is the most time-consuming class to play at endgame. Enjoy farming those soul shards. You’ll also be competing against mages (and occasionally priests) for that phat lewt.
However, the utility you will bring will make every group /sigh with relief that a lock is coming aboard.
Godspeed
The one that takes longest is arguably the one reliant on consumables - in this case, hybrids more often than not, as they need consumables to be competitive. Soul Shard farming isn’t actually bad, and the crafted items that come from soul shards don’t actually fade when you’re logged out, unlike mage water/food. I’d say mage water/food is worse because you have to do it just before raid - though you don’t have to leave raid mid-way if you run out.
Don’t forget Ferals have to farm the Crowd Pummeler and use it repeatedly - as do Spelladins apparently.
It’s sad but true…
Does 2 hand Enhance Shamans farm this also? I really can’t remember off the top of my head.
