I would like to see the game go Thought wrath. I would also like to see some changes to wrath, more difficult Heroics than release No dungeon finder during ICC Badge gearing adjustments. Not outright remove that came with Cata.
After ICC what i would want is for the game to move on to its new course. Erase the fact that Cata Happened and start a new branch of the game. One that doesnt need to focus on the next big bad every expansion.
Most players want The Burning Crusade then Wrath of the Lich King later. Although some players wonāt admit it because they want everyone to play the way they play now instead of progressing. Most players understand that progression is necessary to continue enjoying goals made.
Hardly anyone wants Classic+ except a few vocal on the forums. Primarily because no one really has the same idea as anyone else for what Classic+ should be.
I donāt trust the current dev team to pull off classic+. Everytime they try to bring back vanilla elements or design elements in retail they mess it up royally. And when they actually come up with good new ideas like class halls in legion they toss them out.

I do wonder if they would make the same decisions moving forward into new expansions from Wrath now that we have the history of what the game turned into. Though i wouldnt want Ion in charge based how he has done the past 3 expansions with systems.
No they came up with a perfectly good system already in 2.0. No need to redesign anything.
Yep looking at WoD, Legion and BFA, Ion has consistently doubled down on terrible designs like ability pruning and artifical time gating and thrown out the best idea, class halls, they had.
I would wager that most people who are nostalgic for Cataclysm onward are not that put off by retail, whereas the folks nostalgic for 1-3 (especially Vanilla) are the least fond of retail. There is some overlap of course.
#4 (progression through Wrath) for most people, with a handful of servers going #3 (evergreen Classic w/ phase seasons) is definitely an option, as I did mention combinations. In fact I think this will end up the most likely scenario.

Sure. But my point is that Iād absolutely celebrate a complete re-walk through everything, notably with some of the tuning and improvements that came late in the cycle for each of those. Doing MoP over with the better tuned daily quest gating would make an otherwise fantastic expansion that much more enjoyable.
Plus, as much as Cata and WoD get hate, those expansions had a lot of good to them. A Round 2 of Cata would mean that people would be able to anticipate the difficulty changes in Heroics and the first talent pruning that were so off putting for so many folks then.
Finally, thereās always the reality that porting Cata or Wrath into the new client means fixing latent bugs and other weird behavior that just generally improves the experience. They also have the opportunity to add cosmetic and UI features that didnāt come until much later as well, but I donāt hold my breath on this ever since those features were often hallmarks of their expansion.
Personally I liked MoP a lot.

The problem for me about going through them again would be how many changes are needed moving into Cata and beyond. The talent system changed MASSIVELY in that time and i would not say for the better. We also got the RNG loot systems. Gutting of trades. Some of that would take actual work on blizzards end to fix.
On the other hand its the devil we know. Whatever comes out of C+ either post Classic or Wrath is a big question mark. With Ion in charge we could end up in Systems lands 2 Electric boogaloo. Nobody wants that.
1 is a stupid idea, unless you truly and honestly believe that Blizzard 2020 (Diablo: Immortal, Warcraft 3: Reforged) can make games like Blizzard 2004 did.
2 is just a fancy way of saying that Classic will die, because stagnation will set in, and communities will absolutely die off, in time.
3 is a crap idea, born of the IP theft servers that Classic was brought in to smite. Starting over every couple years is only going to appeal to a minute fraction of the playerbase.
4 is the only logical path forward, with some servers in museum status, so that they can continue to be used to smite IP thieves.
Whatever happens they should keep number 2 and probably do number 3.
I donāt see the point of number 4. TBC, then WOTLK, then CATA, then all of them and then what ? Itās a dead end. Plus we already know retail is bad. I donāt need to go all over that downhill again.
If Blizzard is ambitious they will go number 1 with Classic +. Maybe they will fail but at least they will try. I know some people donāt trust them but so far I think they did a good job with the changes in Classic. They were few and mostly good changes. I have a lot to say against retail but I have nothing to say again the changes they made in Classic so far. Itās looking good. Iām optimistic.
And if Classic+ doesnāt work well we will still have classic servers.

Donāt get me wrong, if they did Cata classic and MoP classic Iād absolutely play them (WoD not so much.) But while 2 versions of WoW make sense, Iām not sure how keen theyād be on supporting 7-8 versions.
Oh Iām sorry, let me be more clear:
My preference is that Classic turns into TBC, no more Vanilla once that happens. Then at the end of TBC, we move on to Wrath, and so forth.
Not multiple supported versions, just the Retail and the Classic. They could even relaunch Classic 2.0 at the Vanilla stage some years down the line if they wanted, hell take another crack at it and make Classic 2.0 the Classic+ Reforged people want, complete with updated models, modern UI elements, retuned everything, etc.
