WoW gets a lot of hate on this forum and the sky is always falling, so what’s better?
no other MMO does rated PvP as well as WoW sadly
swtor is probably second but the gap is enormous
I always hear that the alternatives are markedly worse.
Real life. WalMart parking lot most balanced map
RF online
Ace Online
MMO pvp communities are non existent outside of wow.

In my experience, nothing.
I’ve tried many other MMOs searching for a good PvP experience: SWTOR, LTRO, GW2, ESO, Wildstar, FF14, Lost Ark, Rift, BDO, New World, and probably a few more I’m forgetting atm.
None of them are even close to as good as WoW PvP. Something about the snappy instantaneous movement/ability usage, the huge spellbook of abilities and the team comps make WoW PvP unmatched.
The closest I’ve found over the years is Battlerite. That game had a very similar vibe to WoW arenas. But it died a while ago sadly, was a fun game.
I could never get that game to work on my PC before it was shut down.
There are emu’s running (strong) it still today.
Oof I’m looking that up right now. That was one of the first mmos that no one even knows about.
This news is kind of a bummer. It sounds like nothing else is really good. I got super into GW2 for a few seasons, buts it’s pretty much bots and dead game. The PvP community is like 250 people and you can get top 25 just by having a pulse.
I was hoping to mix it up over summer and try something else.
My first real heartbreak
Pokemon go, lol. Battle league is actually pretty fun and competitive. There is open great league (1500cp and under) ultra (2500cp and under) and master (unlimited cp). Great, ultra, and master rotate bi weekly, and there’s always a secondary mode at great league cp or little (500cp) to choose from with more restrictions on which pokemon you can use.
The open leagues are interesting because it’s actually impossible to build a “best team”. There are definitely better meta pokemon than others, but other than master league, none of them are legendary or hard to get pokemon. You’re also limited to a certain number of games that you can play per day. The elo system works in sets of 5 matches where your rating goes up or down based on the outcome of those five matches. There are seasonal rewards based on how well you do over the season. Titles, skins, etc.
The “skill” involved is basically game knowledge of the typings and which mons get which moves, and how many turns the various fast and charged moves take. You get two shields and there’s a 1 minute swap timer. You can overcome unfavorable matches by properly counting moves and using swaps at the right time to screw over the other player’s energy usage and stuff.
There are a few out there. I liked this one the most so far. Good group of people running this.
Sadly, wow pvp is still better than all the MMOs I played. Unfortunately, wow pvp is not worth $15 a month due to imbalances, terrible map imbalances, gear gaps, and so on. It is nice to play, maybe once or twice a year.
WoW is simply the best.
Balancing just tends to suck because devs push bad metas without thinking
MMO and PVP just hasn’t gone together well since UO.
Even New World had to completely restructure its entire philosophy away from a PVP-centric gameplay because nobody cared
