Which hunter pet is good for tanking like the void guy of the lock?

I just tame a mamoth but i feel like the void guy do a much better job draging literally all enemies to him than my mamoth, i think it is mean to be a tanking pet but not sure

so i would like to ask you if you know a good pet for tanking like a pro who drags all anemies away from me

I changed my mag’har hunter to full blackrock style the other day, so my current tank is Ironcrusher. I stole him from Beastlord Darmac.

Any spirit beast

Scalehides are good ferocity tanks. They give you leech to self heal while they tank.

Spirit beasts are usually a solid choice, but sometimes something with Ferocity is what’s needed. I usually swap between spirit beasts and cloud serpents. Been having more survival issues with spirit beasts lately for some reason, so I’ve just been using my cloud serpents for the added leech.

This may seem silly, but I have had some of the best results using boars. Not even sure how that works lol

My “tanky” pet on my hunter is a clefthoof (you need to be BM), but it’s a tankier ferocity.

All tank pets have the same stats now, it’s just about abilities.

Also changes whether or not you’re BM, because exotic pets.

Spirit Beasts have a heal, but Stone Hounds have a self-rez in addition to a tank passive. Carapids/Snails are solid as well. Clefthooves.

If you aren’t BM, then Oxen (tank passive), followed by Beetles/Turtles.

I tend to be partial to Spirit Beasts (heal separate to mend pet plus tenacity bonuses).
Clefthooves if you need Lust, which could be a good play because sometimes it’s better to kill something fast.

Look through the pets and their special abilities. Find one that has a survivability skill like a shield or damage reduction, preferably in the Ferocity talent group because the bloodlust and leech are better for survivability. Though in 11.1 you will be able to change your pet’s talents.

The real question is though, what spec are you? If you are SV or MM then how you play is just as important because pet threat is based a lot on damage and those specs rely more on hunter damage than pet damage, especially MM. You might want to slow your damage output at the start to give your pet more time to build threat.

If you MD onto your pet you should be fine on them.

A ferocity pet with a self-defensive will probably always be the best: Scalehides, Clefthooves, Corehounds, and Gorillas. At least until next patch where you can respec your pets. If you want to keep your pet alive, the Dark Ranger hero talent (Smoke Screen) that makes Survival of the Fittest and Exhilaration cast the other at reduced effectiveness is really good.

Mechanical squirrels

Not even joking, my goblin hunter has a pair of mechanical squirrel pets and they’re little beasts. Use a misdirect macro and go to town.

I like clefthoofs for tanking personally. They’re ferocity for the heal but they have tank defensives. If only they weren’t so massive lol.

Clefthoof.

YW

Out in the world, Delves and old content I use cats, almost exclusively. I prefer ferocity over anything else. Growl on, pets do what they do. In old raids bosses tend to still go for me but with it being old it’s hardly an issue.
I still use cats in group content, I just turn growl off. I don’t use MD.
BM on all my hunters except one who is MM.

I misdirect and barrage tier 11 delves onto clefthoof with no problems

A Tenacity spec Pet with a defensive (damage reduction, dodge or triggered defense) family skill are the most tanky. Right now pet specs can’t be changed, but after next patch you can change them.

Right now:

  • Bettle
  • Carapid*
  • Turtle
  • Dragonhawk
  • Feathermane
  • Hopper
  • Bear
  • Oxen
  • Stonehound

These may be useable right now but after patch you can spec them into Tenacity to make them tankier:

  • Boar
  • Mechanical
  • Shale Beast*
  • Corehound*
  • Scalehide
  • Fox
  • Monkey
  • Serpent
  • Cat
  • Courser
  • Wind Serpent
  • Camel
  • Gruffhorn
  • Pterrordax*
  • Clefthoof*
  • Gorilla

You can find more info on pets on the site WoW Petopia. Very useful resource to know their abilities and choose appearances.

But no matter which pet you choose, you still need to manage its survival ny casting Mending Pet and using defensives like Survival of the Fittestand Bear Fortitude to keep it alive.
