Metzen gets a lot of leeway because he’s directly credited with writing the Horde a lot of players fell in love with. Everything the Horde was when WoW started could be directly attributed to him.
Also, according to him the last thing he was involved with in the story before he left was the BfA cinematic of the Alliance besieging Undercity. Say what you will about him being a MHP at heart, BfA and Shadowlands was what we got once his involvement was over.
He’s by no means perfect, but at least with him there was a Horde story with high points. As opposed to what we’ve had now which is at best cameo appearances once in a blue moon.
If we’re directly attributing everything bad that happened in the story lorewise to Metzen, then conversely we could attribute everything good that happened as well, which is exactly my point. There were low points, but there were high points too.
Metzen laid out the world controlled by the alliance with the Horde being an afterthought. That is his legacy and the story suffers from that until present day.
Suramar felt, to me, relatively balanced. The only streamers who were convinced it was alliance-only were annoying highborne rpers vibrating at the thought of getting their own version of Silvermoon just for themselves.
Of all the complaints about how things should have more horde presence in Legion, Suramar ranks near the bottom.
If Metzen is MHP, than he can at least write non MHP characters who don’t also follow that stereotype as NOT being the scum of the earth. Unlike later writers.
And I’ve LONG felt that Nightborne should have been neutral like Pandas and dragons, and the Alliance should’ve gotten Broken draenei from Argus to match the highmountain tauren the Horde got.
