I decided to take my tailor out and start working on my profession. I read that only tailors get cloth, so thought cool, I’m a tailor.
Played from 70 almost all the way to 72, only farming humanoid mobs, ZERO cloth.
Seems like tailors are getting screwed, I can mine and skin from moment one, but when am I going to be able to up my tailoring, I shouldn’t have to by profession mats for my main profession!
Is this a bug or just a working as intended mechanic.

I think I got most of my cloth from mining webbed nodes before I spec’ed into getting cloth.

Make sure you immediately start putting profession points into the “find more cloth” node when you can.
Did you make sure to learn Khaz Algar tailoring? Not sure if that makes a difference.
Otherwise you might just have bad luck, friend. The cloth drops are slow, but they’re there. I’ve found enough to get Tailoring respectably leveled without buying any.

I was leveling up my lvl 17 Vulpie Hunter in Dragonflight and I took Tailoring on him to test it. He was loading up on cloth and scraps that seem to be useful to the profession. I think I only have one other tailor (for bags), but that little guy was scarfing up the cloth.

The no cloth drops from mobs (non-tailors)is only for The War Within though, right? Dragonflight, cloth dropped for everyone, or did they change it across every single expansion?

That may be true, I stand corrected.

As far as I can tell (If pre-patch counted), it’s only for TWW.
I also got cloth with my tailor long before I put any knowledge points in. Just make sure you learn TWW tailoring. That is a requirement.

That’s what I thought but I honestly was not certain, that’s why I literally posed it as a question rather than a correction, you never know.

You have to have Khaz Alger Tailoring specifically, if you don’t you won’t get any, or not very much depending on other professions. After that it should drop fairly well. If it’s not try a full relog, not just a reload. If you still have a problem post on the bug report forum.

I don’t even have points in that yet and I find cloth on my tailor

Fair, couldn’t remember. I could’ve sworn I was getting some of the new cloth during the intro scenario, before I made it to train at Dornagal, but I guess not.

Did you train TWW Tailoring?

I hope you’re not looking for something to craft directly with. You have to turn it into spools first with unraveling.

Yes I trained TWW Tailoring, and no I have not reached level 25 Tailoring so I cannot put in points yet. I got to able level 15 tailoring using cloth that my MINER had gathered.
But me as Tailor has played for over 2 hours leveled almost to 72 and have been farming humanoid mobs and have yet to get one piece of cloth.
My Wife was questing with me on her tailor a few days ago we played for like 3 to 4 hours, zero cloth.
I should not have to buy cloth to level tailoring to put points in cloth gathering LOL
So I guess this is broken compared to mining, skinning.

I’ve had cloth dropping on my tailors. Very slow going. Maybe instances drop more of it. I haven’t taken either of them into an instance yet. Have been getting some spools of thread from fishing as well so that helps out.

You have to be doing something wrong, or your character is bugged. You just need TWW tailoring and it starts dropping frequently. There’s no chance you’d go even several minutes killing humanoids without getting any. I know people who farmed 20k+ weavercloth just during early access to profit off the people coming in late, it’s a popular group farm. It drops fine.
I suspect you walked up to the TWW tailoring trainer and learned normal tailoring and then didn’t learn the TWW version after. I made this mistake on one of my alts when learning a different profession. Or your character is bugged somehow.

I did the same thing, was like WTF.
Then after an hour of aoe farming with druid went back and was like damn… LOL
Edit: Should include that I only picked up tailoring from the trainer and not TWW tailoring.

you have to spec into a specific tree to increase your chances.

I agree, cloth is pretty scarce but you can put point in tailoring to increase the yield.
Edit: didn’t read the post properly. OP says they leveled up grinding humanoids.
You’re not wrong but I feel like you had to have gotten something in the 2 levels.

LOL, yes I did learn TWW tailoring, I am actually level 20 tailoring using cloth from my miner.
I decided to make another toon a tailor specifically to farm cloth, so I made my Ret Paladin a tailor, went out, killing 10 to 15 mobs at once still zero cloth.
At this point I am relying on mining for cloth, its ridiculous.
