Just started playing again. Haven’t played since before TBC, all my characters are gone? Did they wipe everything?

They aren’t gone and you’d see the if you logged into the game. So either you are lying or are a clone alt forum poster

What do you mean. Why would I lie? There’s only 1 character on all the realms and it’s the one i just created? Where did all the others go?

Any Classic Era characters that didn’t explicitly select to stay in Classic were moved to TBC Classic which is now Wrath Classic.

He has not played since before TBC. He is giving the impression he never knew he could choose at all. If this was true and he wasnt just another alt poster asking for the same thing than all of his characters would be on WOTLK.
If he sees only 1 character then he chose to put it there back then. He has failed to even mention what version he chose to look at. The post just reeks of an obvious attempt to feign ignorance in the name of getting a clone they chose not to buy when they had the chance.

That character would only be on era if he chose to keep it there. Meaning he knows it was a thing.

I’m not looking for any holes. If he’s trolling, that’s on him. If he doesn’t know where his characters are, now he does.
So they moved all my Classic characters to wrath and I can’t play them in Classic anymore?

The Classic progression for characters has been Vanilla → TBC → Wrath (just like it was originally). There were several months (maybe more than a year) of announcements and time when you could select whether to keep characters in Classic Era, move to TBC Classic and/or clone into whichever one you didn’t select to move to.
In any case, if you didn’t select, then you will have to roll new characters if you wish to play Classic Era.

You didnt have to. You had the choice for a very long time as the game has progressed 2 expansions since you stopped playing. You assumed your characters didnt as well?
What happens to characters when new expansions drop in MMOs?

When TBC launched, they offered for a time to advance or stay in Classic Era, My guess would be to download Classic Era, and hopefully your characters will be there and have the chance to move and not be like my poor rogue in Classic Era Jail.
Actually, Classic Era is nice, I think they made it to where you can group cross-server and stuff, so while it’s a bit small, there’s a moving chat, and people looking for groups on occasion. My Rogue stayed behind cuz, I wanted him to get to 60 Legit, since TBC changes XP Amounts from 40-60 If I remember right.
I get on my rogue sometimes, wander orgrimmar and sit him down! A long journey he had, one I’m proud of!

They only progress if you request it (buying the expac). Exactly why one would assume the same for Classic. Blizz dropped the ball imo.

Oddly I can pay a monthly sub in retail and if I don’t acknowledge that I want to advance (buying expansion) my character does not move. It remains in the previous expansion.
Please remember to remove you foot from your mouth pal.

Wild that they give you classic expansions for the price a monthly sub. Its a good deal as these games are pretty old and a lot of us bought them back then.
Does it remain the same though? Pretty sure you still recieved a lot of unaksed for changes to those characters over the years.
