Where are the tanks

I’ve been sitting in Shattrath looking for a group for the daily Heroic quest for 35 minutes. Nothing. No one.

Tried to make a group. Spent 40 looking for a tank the people left and gave up.

I am on Pagle, one of the ‘‘most populated’’ server on classic. There is literally 0 tanks, Nothing, no one.

I wish I had a solution for this. But lately i’ve been spending more time AFK in Shattrath than actually playing the game.

I’d level a tank but I don’t have the motivation to spend a month levelling from 1-70, refarm all the reputation, gear etc.

I think we either need something like a cross server dungeon queue, more character boost or just some kind of incentive or catch up mechanic to actually have tanks in dungeons. Anything. I’m bored

All the tanks are already geared so they are only tanking for their guilds.

The tank shortage is a WAY bigger issue than battleground queues but as usual, blizzard is ignoring the important issues and simply slapping bandaids on those who whine the loudest.

Tanks are mostly in guilds, same thing with healers. We have a glutton of guild tanks but the more difficult content gets the smaller that pool shrinks down even for us.

I know people say this alot but that is because it’s true, if you want a better shot of running content in TBC find yourself a guild.

Also understand that if you are playing outside of prime hours it is going to get infinitely harder to form groups.

Finally I know you said you didn’t want to start over but there in lies part of the problem. Everyone wants someone else to solve the problem for them.

My main is a healer but we have a ton of them so I started leveling a Warlock to fill in on normal runs and a Warrior because everyone is basically a Prot Paladin and it’s causing an issue or two on the raiding front.

Sometimes you gotta be the answer to your own problem.

One of the main issue is for dungeons, paladins are the best. You can pull big, people can AOE and everyone is happy.

If your tank is a warrior or druid, you have to single target. Even if the tank is full BIS, you just cannot AOE with a warrior or druid.

People don’t understand that and go all out. Then they complain the tank is bad etc. So tanks give up either because people are mean to them or just because it’s not fun at all running after mobs and blowing every CD to taunt, intercept, charge etc.

@Amarian Maybe you have time to level 4 alts. I don’t. I have a job working 50 hours a week and a family.

This is why tanks are mostly in guilds, no need to put up with the stupidity of the masses.

And there is always that one warlock that drops seed of corruption at the start of the pull and wonder why the warrior/druid can’t keep aggro.

A large amount of the people who play this game are rude and don’t have basic social skills. If you’re an in demand tank you can just tank for guilds and have a more pleasant experience

What was the daily?

I’m in a guild. I still pug. The masses aren’t stupid given most if not all runs I do end successfully.

I agree, the tank just has to take charge and tell the dps what to do. Mark targets and when they dont listen and zug zug just kick them out.

Being a tank is stressful, and a chore. It’s also simply not that much fun.

Part of the issue is also you need tons of tanks for dungeons, but there are only so many tank slots for raids.

Why would we want to tank for people who make our lives difficult and give us non-stop word I can’t use on here.

I sure as heck wouldn’t risk putting up for that with some randoms.

I have a tank and I am strictly no heroics and only when I feel like putting up with things. Which is few and far between now that I got all the gear I need

Tanks are geared and typically not willing to deal with the average pug just for 25 gold.

Just did one because it was SV and the regular too and as usual it was the typical frustration dealing with hunters who pull without MD, people who don’t understand a kill order or LOS pulls etc…

Wrong. Tanking is probably the single most interesting aspect of the game. The appeal is in its difficulty. The fun is in its difficulty.

Threat is such a great mechanic. The fact that retail essentially did away with it as any meaningful part of the game is one of the key contributing factors as to why Classic is a far superior game.

Tanks get to play against threat. They get to make decisions. They get to think about what they have to do.

I’m currently leveling a protadin and was trying to knock out a ZF (which I out level by about 10 levels, but I want the damn carrot on a stick!) and asked the group which buffs they wanted. The warlock, 11 levels below me, says “salv … because I’ll pull threat off of you.” I lol’ed, but gave them salv …

Then, they proceeded to dot every flipping thing in sight and would tag mobs as I’m running to them.

The retail mentality of “gogogogo” combined with the other listed reasons above (already geared, people are obnoxious, etc) are why there is a tank shortage.

Be the solution to your own problem. I don’t really have time to level another alt either, but I’m using the limited amount of time I do have to do so for the very same reason as you. I’m tired of sitting in chat for an extended amount of time spamming for one.

Currently tanking with Bloodlust Brooch, just to add some more “oomph” to my threat on pulls. Sometimes equip an hourglass as well, just in case.

If only there was a feature in the game that allowed tanks to swap between tanking and dpsing w/e they wanted to, till then enjoy the wait cause the nochange kids will cry about it.

It happens for tanks, too. Sometimes groups form super quickly, sometimes they take forever.

I’ve sat in a group with tank & healer, unable to fill DPS at times.

Hmm, maybe something like a free respec token or something for completing a heroic.

Roll a Tank or make good friends with one.

I mean that’s definitely an opinion, and not a popular one. Tanking is a lot more fun in other games and in retail. Tanking in TBC isn’t super fun, and it’s a big reason why people don’t do it.
