Okay, I will take that when it comes to writing for games.
This goes back to the issue of no feedback in a timely manner, lots of good authors donât have the best takes the first time around, and if youâve heard stories of writers like Robert Stevenson, H.P. Lovecraft, Tolkien, etc⌠youâd be shocked to realize how much they had to change and revise from the initial versions of their VERY publicly beloved classic works cause an editor or proof reader sent them back and said: âThis is dishwater writing, fix such and such.â
WoW lacks this critical feedback step because we went from a 2 year release cadence with multiple expansions being worked on in 4 years to a 3 year cadence thanks to expansions being 1.5 years long now.
And they do work on expansions 2-3 ahead, so that leaves them very little time to pump the brakes and make changes last minute (If any time whatsoever).

Sometimes i think blizzard is intentionally doing this,theres no way they canât make at least one good character⌠at least one, my dear god⌠how you can be this bad???
Anduin is suposed to be a good character but they menage to make him significantly worse and try to justify his downgrade as âdevelopmentâ

Of all the characters in wow, Arthas has arguably the best story arc (except for that 
ending they gave to it in shadowlands).
Illidan is right up there as well.

thatâs the issue. the ones on the current storyboard suck and has sucked for years lol.
There was an interview with the CEO (I think) of Ubisoft and he said that currently most employees working on Assassinâs Creed are juniors working on their first game.
I wonder if maybe thatâs the case too with the current staff working on Warcraft lore and resulting in all these new bland and safe characters.
Illidan story is at least top 3, and im not even a fan of him.
We talking about a love triangle.
He helped Tyrande out of love even though he is rejected.
He helped his brother even though he is cursed by him.
Not to mention all the twists and turns being an antihero. Gulâdan, Lichking, Dreadlords, MaghteridonâŚMaiev, Naaru, Kilâjaeden⌠the whole night elves magic thing, sunwell, my dear god, he did everything he could
He may be a beta male but he has A LOT of good content.
He is part of almost everything and theres little to not a single contradiction in his actions, how that is not well written?

Modern writing has no plans for epic characters. Just one boring character, copy and pasted into different aesthetics to simulate diversity.

They had to almost entirely retcon TBC because they shoved him into the blatant villain role with basically no story justification, and then decided years later that they actually wanted to use him as a character after all.

Illidanâs story is just the ârivalâ from any generic shonen anime with the serial numbers filed off and some wings.
Killed demons in the War of Ancients and consumed their power; ostracized by his fellow night elves for it.
Killed demons in the Third War and consumed their power; ostracized by his fellow night elves for it.
Killed demons in the Tomb of Sargeras and consumed their power; ostracized by his fellow night elves, with a tiny reprieve because Furion needed him for like five minutes.
Killed demons in Outland and consumed their power; ostracized by everybody.
Killed demons during Legion and consumed their power; ostracized by Xâera, for which he zapped her with eyebeams; finally locked in prison so we didnât have to go through this whole thing again.
Guyâs only got âno contradictionsâ because he only has one story beat.
The one olds suck too, people are just nostalgic for them and overlook it.

With Metzen returning, I suspect they may be able to turn Faerin into that. Right now, sheâs kinda an amorphic entity that was clearly created to tick a PoC, woman and disabled box all in one (a hat-trick)⌠yet I actually think the writers defied their own impulses (or listened to Metzen in the 11th hour) and managed to avoid making her insufferable. Sheâs actually a cool character I would like to see more involved.
Iâm hoping they do more with her and give her a bit of story investment. Maybe whenever we find out more about the actual Empire and its Emperor.
The whole universe passed through retcons, so what? we talking about quality of the current lore and not what is no longer considered

I am saying you do not have access to the hiring process or the names and backgrounds of all devs hired.
so stating things suck because of DEI is not a statement you can make based on factual evidence
also, knowing how often you veer into personal attacks, I feel there is more to the story.
