Fixed that for you.
I would add Draenei, Lightforged Draenei, and Mag’har Orcs (think Blackrock clan / Iron Horde) to the list, and remove Vulpera (They don’t have any sort of technological tradition/culture that the other races have). I would make it this way for the expansion launch, then open it up to all races in the x.2 patch.
As for Necromancers, we already have them, they’re called Death Knights.
Another thing that irritates me about the tinker debacle is the need to arbitrarily limit it to a few races, which is pretty ironic when much of this board has spent the last few years crusading for race/class limits to be removed entirely. Every race has the minimum mental capacity to be an engineer, yet people still think the class’s availability should be heavily curtailed.
Draenei and Lightforged have built spaceships, Dark Irons pilot subterranean vehicles, orcs build siege vehicles, and Mag’har build aircraft carriers, yet somehow they all tend to get glossed over like most races other than gnomes and goblins. And yet vulpera tinkers keep getting pitched even though that race has never been depicted as being technologically advanced on the level of gnomes and goblins. They lived in the desert where they operated caravans, there has never been a vulpera NPC piloting a mech suit, yet people want to insist that they’re geniuses due to some misconceived association with the other short races. This belief needs to go.
I would love a Tinker Class, I’d reroll day one!
It will likely be with an expansion release. Just about every leaked expansion ever likes to tease having a Tinker Class because it’s a popular idea that would be easy to impliment.
In WC3, The Tinker could fight from a Distance with Missiles and built turrets. And Fight up close in a Mech. So most people argue it should be Ranged DPS and Melee Tank.
In BFA there were some NPC Tinkers who did just that.
Ranged DPS
Melee Tank
And they also had a Ranged Healer that shot healing bullets and built healing turrets.
But you could be a Tinker WITH engineering.
But then you’re a Warrior, A Paladin, a Rogue, a Shaman, or a Frost DK. you can’t seriously tell me you don’t see a flaw in that logic?
Warriors are about Rage and being a barbarian.
Shaman uses the Elements. Paladins use the Light. None of these classes use Technology.
I Disagree. Engineering as a Profession has been the same for most of the game’s lifespan at this point.
It makes mounts, Utility items (Usually consumables, E.G. Goblin Gliders) Guns, Special Ammos, Goggles. And a Brez
None of these things would need to change. None of these things have changed in years. Several expansions at this point.
After we get Playable Alliance High Elves.
I used to be pro-restrictions when it came to a Tinker class, but Blizzard is clearly starting to kick racial restrictions down the line, so I don’t think any restrictions really need to exist.
Especially if you consider that the class would be based around science and not some inherent magical talent. Then Theoretically anyone who studied it would be capable.
If Blizzard really demanded on a restriction for some reason, I could see excluding races that are clearly and obviously against tech, and more focused on nature or religion. Night Elves, Tauren, Trolls.
(But Hey, one of the Alliance Tinker NPC’s on the Mechagon was a Night Elf i’m pretty sure. So what do I know?)
It’s a highly requested class so I’m thinking they are saving it for a theme appropriate expansion they backburnered for some time down the road.
I would rather they put the effort into class skins as they open up more race/class combos.
Tbh can get really close to that fantasy already.
Just make a Gnome/Goblin Survival Hunter with Engineering and Alchemy and use a robot pet.
Why do people say this? There are zero tech classes in a game that’s as much tech as it is magic, and there are two racial leaders that are Tinkers.
Eh… Then you’re still a Hunter. Your class is all about Animals, Instinct, and Nature.
Kind of the Opposite of a Tinker.
I’d rather be a Tech focused class and also grab Engineering and Alchemy!
Tinkers aren’t a class, its a profession, so we already have Tinkerers. They are players with Engineering professions. Literaly tinkering profession path for engineers.
It’s not a race or a profession. It’s a class. Mekkatorque and Gazlowe are Tinkers. They fight with technology. They use mech suits and lasers and such.
WC3 and Heroes of the Storm show Tinkers as a class.
Survival uses a ton of bombs and traps etc.
Its a lot less focused on your bond with nature than BM, that’s the point. Even your relation with your pet through abilities is closer to what you’d achieve training an animal than the whole magically command a zoo thing BM has going.
Survival is probably my favorite spec thematically cause it mixes bombs/gadgets and animal companionship perfectly.
I personally hope we never get a tinker class in WoW. The whole archetype is awful, in my opinion.
Personally I would not like a tinker class and as others have said the very truth that the team chose to do an evoker instead of another wc3 class speaks to that same sentiment from the devs. Maybe you’ll have a techish class when we get a “order” focused expansion but I wouldn’t hold your breath. For many the idea of a tinker is just dreadfully boring and I can’t help but agree.
Tinkerers are engineers.
Engineers are tinkerers.
Literal Tinker Sub-build for engineers in dragonflight
fini
This is true. (Though I’d hardly call using 1 bomb ability and the same traps as other hunters “A ton”)
But I still argue my point that it’s pretty clearly Nature/animal focused. You still use Nature abilities like the Animal Aspects, or Serpent Sting. You still use “Kill Command” and hack at things with a polearm/2 hander. Not exactly a Tinker in a Mech like Gazlowe or Mekkatorque you know?
I agree with you that it’s the closest the players can get to being a Tinker, but it’s still pretty damn far.
I just don’t understand this take. Maybe you can help me understand? Like I think “Death Knight” is an awful archetype. I think it’s super boring. But I acknowledge that it’s a big part of Warcraft’s universe, So While I don’t play one myself, I’m happy that there are people that enjoy it.
Would you not feel the same way?
Now Imagine if you also had a Tech themed Tinker Class to use all the Engineering Items with! That would be dope.
Currently you have to pick a Class that has nothing to do with Tech and just bolt some Engineering buffs to it. Doesn’t really fit the fantasy. TBH.
I wanna Fight with Turrets, Rockets, and Mechs like Gazlowe or Mekkatorque, and Also pick Engineering as my profession!
