So what you are saying is Prot was good for 1-4 weeks of Dragonflight. Which is kinda the OP’s point. Being good for 1-4 weeks in an entire expansion is actually trash.
Now if Prot was #1-2 Tank all of expansion that would be welcomed since that doesn’t happen. Prot has been terrible for decades. Prot arguably hasn’t been King since Vanilla. That’s just too long.
That isn’t what he’s saying, and you’re being obtuse trying to paint it as such. Just because the high end of players shifted to prot pally doesn’t mean prot warr suddenly got bad. Using the high end as a barometer is stupid in the extreme. Every single tank spec is capable of doing all of the content in this game. Prot has not and never will be terrible, you on the other hand…
Prot war was pretty indestructible up until like 16s? I wasn’t even really mythic cault geared and I didn’t raid. I required almost zero direct healing on my prot warrior. My healing received was consistently the lowest in my group all season long. I was playing in the 16-18 range. 20s were definitely in my zone of achievable. I’m not even that great of a player and I could have had much better gear.
If they have war as solid of a tier set as they give some of the other tanks, we’d be cooking. Druid gets god mode every couple minutes while I get a small aoe at the end of last stand

To be fair, I don’t think prot war will be end of season title levels of meta again until we find a way to scale block value beyond the Ilvl cap again and give them some consistent way to mitigate bleed and magic damage that isn’t band aid fixes every couple tuning patches.
To say they’re bottom of the barrel is wrong though. I would say we’re one of the best tanks at low-mid keys, and very serviceable up to the top ranks of play.

You are the only one missing the point I made. When does Prot War get their expansion? Since the last time they were dominant was in Vanilla. That is the last time Prot War was Thee Tank. That is decades ago.
Every expansion there are usually God tier Tanks and it isn’t Prot War. I’m playing Cata right now and Blood DK is God tier before that in Wrath/TBC it was Pally. Next couple expansions it then shifts to Monk/DH/Druid. So when does Prot War ever get a time to shine and be the beloved Tank again?
Honestly it’s sad. Prot War was Iconic once but sadly that was in the early 2000’s. Prot War is the laughing stock of Tanks and the only thing they have been King of the last couple decades is mediocrity.

The top DH is 3900, the top prot is 3600. These are keys that only 5% of the player base even plays at. For almost every person playing this game, prot warrior i(and all tanks) are in a pretty good state.
The irony of all of this, I know who you are. You don’t even pve, all you do is harass people by going into pvp as a prot warrior and then complaining because tanks are garbage in pvp.
Yep one of the big reasons as i pointed out is that everything now is basicly magic damage and we have no innate protection against it which hurts us bad.
Every other tank has some way to either just passively reduce their damage taken from it or can basicly just out right ignore it.
DK’s have 2 forms of magic protection in their shell and bubble then they get reduced damage from their bone armor and any damage they do take they just top back up with a deathstrike
Druids are just fat walls of meat with massive health pools and godly self heals.
Pallys can freaking block spells can i just say how absalutly bull**** it is that they can and we can’t what we can’t just polish our shields to be shiny like theirs.
Monks have their stagger and health orbs which is basicly a free full heal
And demonhunter has meta, demonspikes, souls, lifesteal.
Mean while what we got spell reflect which while good at a 20% reduction and depending on what hits us either a negate or reflection back and ignore pain. Other then that we have our 2 big ones in shield wall and last stand.
The main thing is nearly every other tank has at least some way to heal themselfs up alot basicly on demand, Druids and DK are known for making healers cry, Monks you either have one that just sits there being bored most of the time or they are just always licking the floor makes sence since they are always drunk, DH has so many tools they normally just do whatever they want and pallys are norm just us with better healing and way more tools.
Like i love warrior tanking being able to just rush into a fight and hearing the clanking of metal on my shield is amazing but as time goes on i just sit and look at the others and i’ve been asking myself why do i keep playing warrior and honestly it’s getting harder and harder to justife it to myself since if i spent the same amount of time on a diff tank as my warrior i would be able to do so much more.
Battle for Azeroth season 2, 3 and 4 for Mythic + prot warrior was considered the best tank. So 2019-2020?
Dks prot paladins broken everysingle expansion even feral druid and go figure paladins get new glyphs added to the game to make there “meta class” even better it time for us to go on strike my fellow prot warriors

Unless you are playing in the top 1% (press “x” to doubt), you can play any tank just fine.
In his defence, ever since Cata Classic launched he’s needed something else to use for a gimmick since “no one will play Cata, we need perma-WotLK” is now a dead horse.
I wouldn’t say warriors are trash but we are not picked as often because we lack utility. Damage isn’t really an issue for the most part. But the fact that we don’t bring alot to the table for utility compared to other classes makes it difficult for team leads to pick us over classes that have better utilities.

there will always be that one guy that tries to refute everything in a thread when people clearly point out the shortcomings of a class spec…yes it’s playable, but it’s clear prot warriors are NOT on the same level as bear tanks or blood dks.
Just let us complain on these forums so we can have a little hope the devs might read it and change prot warriors even just a little for the better. More utility or magic dmg reduction… also our tier set in TWW is REALLY bad…

Chronic lack of utility compared to all other Tanks makes him the least desirable of Tanks. Your DPS is of little use if the party dies.
