What's your player housing wishlist?

I want to level up my relationship with my Player Housing Companion

Also

Be able to “abandon” and tame a new one

I’d only want invited ones, like our alts. Though it would be funny if say Jaina shows up, complaining about being sad and sleeping on your couch, eating your food, and making a mess. You need to find a way to diplomatically get her to leave.

Aside from a half kidding half serious “as long as it don’t suck” comment from me, i’d love if it were similar to FFXIV n ESO where you can place items/beds/seats/tables/other items/mounts/pets/etc wherever you want, also change the flooring, walls, etc.

I don’t really have any wishes or wants for housing, but I am curious about how they implement it.

Haha okay that sounds like an amazing quest.

I would not say the home was the central focus in Wildstar. They liked to say it was, but really all you had for a few nodes that had a teeny bit of farming and some games. Most of the stuff was still done in the cities or the open world since it took all of 5 minutes to do everything you could farm at your house.

Either way though I just mean the customisation options. Like how I managed to build an entire forest with a cave, a pond, a waterfall, and platforms running through the trees.

I really hope they look at EQ2/SWTOR for inspiration.

NO GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS. It needs to be purely optional and not forced.

I wouldn’t mind if they took a page from DAOC/LOTRO/FF14 as well and made “neighborhoods” - Though I think it would be too much on the servers.

Overall, Look at SWTOR/EQ2 and I think everyone that wants housing would be at least mostly happy.

That being said, I REALLY enjoyed LOTRO’s collection aspect to their house. Most end-game raid and dungeon bosses had a chance to drop a “trophy” that you could display in your house. This gave you reasons to go back and run old content again to try to collect all the trophies. This really should be a must.

my list:

  • evergreen addition to the game: not just a midnight-specific feature (confirmed by Ion in the recent T&E interview)
  • completely optional: not tied to player power, does not provide sellable things like herbs or ore
  • not just for max level characters: players can start to engage with player housing earlier than that
  • wow already has a large library of game assets (furniture like beds, chairs, tables, clutter objects, braziers, etc). so I imagine there would be a long-term, ongoing, effort to convert these into ‘home objects’
  • players can collect these ‘home objects’ in a new collection tab
  • while in your home, you can enter an ‘edit mode’. while in ‘edit mode’ you can place, or move, home objects
  • account wide. once you have collected a table, you’ve collected it on all your characters, and that table can be placed by any of them
  • earn home objects individually or as part of a group: an example of a group might be “blood elf home stuff” or “sporeggar swamp stuff” or “winter veil decorations 2025”
  • collectibles are obtainable from a wide variety of content: dungeons, raids, delves, pvp, outdoor activities, secret finding, crafting, trading post, etc. sprinkled into both current and legacy content.
  • new user interface to view what you have collected, what you have not yet collected, or search for something by name
  • home objects can be placed in 3 dimensions (x/y/z) with nudge and rotation sliders for precise placement. want to make an upside down house with furniture on the ceiling like some kind of crazy kharazan house? you can do that.
  • unlocking/collecting specific home objects may require you to obtain an item first. for example, purchasing a peacebloom flower vase home item pattern may require you to have 3 peacebloom and 50 gold to make that purchase
  • home objects have ‘soft collision’ so it’s possible you can place them wherever you want within the space, even if they overlap
  • special home object: mannequins. available in all race/body types. can be placed. once placed, you can interact with them to configure a full transmog
  • special home objects: armor stands, weapon displays. different versions can be placed. once placed, you can interact with them to configure what weapon or armor transmog to display
  • special home objects: plaques and trophies that let you display any title you have earned, any server first, feat of strength, or custom text
  • home will have an ‘object limit’ (that is very high and most players will never reach it)
  • housing is available in most zones (neighborhoods). players can visit each other’s homes
  • players in a neighborhood can contribute to building and decorating one or more communal plots like a community garden, museum, playground, or town hall
  • stand-alone non-instanced housing is also up for grabs (more expensive, auctioned, gold sink)
  • guild keeps
  • save home blueprint & share with others
  • modify wall style, wallpaper color & style, roof color & style
  • special room objects: crafting stations, cooking objects
  • special room object: configurable portal. a quick way to get to your guild keep, faction capital city, or a specific dungeon or raid
  • special room object: target dummy (it’s a target dummy you can attack). Interact in edit mode to customize the level of the dummy and if it’s a boss or not. many different visual styles (horde dummy, alliance dummy, archery bullseye, etc)
  • special guild keep object: guild bank. once placed, can be interacted with to access the guild bank
  • special guild keep object: statue (bronze/marble/stone/copper/etc). select the guild member you want it to look like and customize the transmog. plaque included that can display the name of the player and some custom text
  • built-in warband integration: warband characters may visit your home if you enable that
  • more thoughts later

  • Weapon Racks
  • Variable locations
  • Pet stable for hunters
  • Warband toons walking around (optionally)
  • Upgradeable features like a butler, or a special wandering vendor/an in house barber shop
  • A portal room that you can customize with different zones or a designated friend’s house
  • Support for showing FoS/Legacy achievements somehow (picture frames maybe?)

A few others, but this is off the top of my head

Nothing, really. I barely have time to play real-life house.

Mount and Pet displays. Similar to what the Garrison had. I’d love that.

I had that with the Garrison and I am not interested. However, as a role-play, it would be nice to be able to select one of my alt characters as a sibling or a companion, who also lives in the house while I am logged into my main character and vice versa. But that should be a completely optional setting so that if I just want the house all to myself, I’ve got it.

WoW has a loot of books found throughout the game or collected in quests. Usually these are grey items which can be only sold to NPCs or scrapped to prevent that they mess up the inventory.

It would be nice to turn all books in WoW into collectibles, which can be placed in the housing book shelf. There is a lot of WoW lore in the books and it would be great to have access to them later on without messing up the normal inventory.

Its an expack feature. So its going to be obly in Midnight. I bet it be hendaled like delves in Tww, and be instanced like class halls.

I’m really hoping that they buck that trend and make player housing a feature that stays relevant/useful without needing to be an expansion feature. But if not, I can still dream that that Blizz will “borrow” ideas from Wildstar. Like different house types, skill items you can toss in your front yard for friends and other players to use, and trampolines to create your own jumping puzzles.

Perhaps something like…1k gold to buy a small lot, 5kg for a medium, 20k for a large. Then another 1k for a cabin, 5k for a small house, and 20k for a two story. Then, if Blizz makes provisions for it, 100k for a small castle.

Before anyone starts getting nasty, this is just a bit of preliminary brainstorming. Feel free to critique…amiably, please.

I am unsure if it will happen, but I am really hoping that we get the freedom to place items anywhere using x-y-z fields and be able to add walls. There were so many interesting effects you could do in ffxiv by glitching things just barely showing through a wall.

Hopefully there will be some addons that help. Even though not strictly allowed in ffxiv, you could “build” you items in a housing simulator, share the layout, and then use an addon to place the items based on the layout.

I may be in the minority, but I would be ok if bliz does want to sell some housing items from the store. This is after all a company. They should be able to make money based on the investments for taking the time to make housing.

You guys are putting way too much stock into this twenty-year-old engine, and I cannot wait for your disappointment in future.

there will be items for your house in the cash shop. guaranteed.
it is a new way to monetize. every single mmo i have played with housing has had a cash shop component to it.

doesnt matter whether people think its right or wrong, its just business, and as with everything else there, totally optional

they really need to revamp crafting so you can make items for your house though. some of the most fun i ever had in EQ2 was making things for my house, finding the blueprints and materials etc.

I want an underground vulpera den with a crafting workshop.

I do not care for knickknacks.
