mine was loosely based around the scene in simpsons where they are thinking of a name for the barbershop quarter in the one simpsons episode and skinner says “let’s think of a name that at first is really funny then get’s less funny the more times you say it.”

All of my toons names were computer generated with a few changes so I could pronounce it. Except for 1. She is a female NE druid named Snowelf. It was late and I was getting tired and a bit silly. I put in Snowelf thinking it will never accept it and…it did! She was my main for many years.
Well, my name is based off of a special door that has a griffon emblem on it. Where this door leads or what purpose this door possess, remains unknown.
It’s definitely not just a Harry Potter nerd reference I made when I was 12.

When I first played Star Wars Galaxies in 2003 on launch, I did a random name generator and it gave me Iazin.
Been that way ever since for all the games I’ve played!
Unfortunately the WoW font makes a capital i look like a lower case L, so often people call me Lazin

Malochai was the name of a vampire in Poppy Z. Brites novel ‘Lost Souls’
& My Malochai is a blood death knight.
I felt so-so about the character, but just liked the name.
Malochai’s language of origin is Hebrew.
Malochai meaning in English is ‘My Messenger’.
I suppose they are, on the forums.

I love the whole Steampunk/Clockpunk genre. Seemed fitting to mix Clockwork with some Victorian era sounding name like Bosworth.
I unlocked the in-game Professor title and I made Professor Clockworth.

my names tend to be linguistically linked to the race and class.
in this guy’s particularly lazy case, well, it’s old French.
I honestly didn’t think I’d play him at all, considering my terror of tanking and the responsibility I felt it contained.
Turns out I love my Pally, so, yup, he’s basically my main the last expack or three.
I have a rogue who’s a pun on the too-frequent misspelling “rouge”. His name is “Alevre” which is basically a contraction of “à levres”, which normally follows “rouge” in French, meaning “lipstick”.
One of my hunters is named “Sukurachi”… I wanted his pet to be named Ichi (“first”)… so Ichi and Sukurachi, a Simpsons reference, with an overall Japanese flavour to it.
Then my holy Priest is called “Prioritée” (French again, with a play on Prior, and priority.)
I had a pair of hunters I dual-boxed, but sadly one of the names I wanted was not available, they would have been Westus and Eastus… as it turned out, the former was available, the latter not.
My Gnome death knight is called “Guhnoam”… basically how Ive always pronounced gnome.

This character is named after Ar-Pharazôn, last king of Númenor from—mainly—the Akallabêth from the Silmarillion. It definitely wasn’t a popular name when I started playing at the beginning of '05 though with with the character appearing in Amazon’s Rings of Power there are more variations of it showing up since that came out. Since I’ve used it on and off online—along with a few other monikers—online for ~26 years, I will continue to do so whether or not I actually like Amazon’s series and how it presents the character or not (I’m ambivalent mostly about the Rings of Power broadly and Pharazôn specifically: he’s got an amazingly glorious beard, and I like the actor; however, I’m not sure about how he is portrayed so far, and…I’m am very much in the male-descendants-of-the-house-of-Elros-should-not-have-beards camp, so as glorious as the beard is, IMO, he shouldn’t have one nor should have Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. But, that’s doesn’t really matter, since MY use of the name is not because of the character itself but because I just really like the name (and Míriel as well, but both “Míriel” and “Miriel” were taken on both my original server and Thorium Brotherhood when I went to make characters (and I created characters day one when Thorium Brotherhood was created though admittedly after it had been up hours).
I have 18 characters in WoW named this.
From the Silmarillion index, Pharazôn means “The Golden” and his name in quenya, Calion (Tar-Calion with the honorific Tar meaing high/king same Ar-), meaning basically “Shining Son” or “Son of Light”. Again, I just like how the name looks and sounds (I don’t really like Calion so never have used it) not necessarily the etymology (though when this character was human, she was always blond) or care about it’s attachment to the backstory.
I also have a few other characters whose names come from Tolkien’s work: 4 that reference Ar-Pharazôn’s wife Tar-Míriel/Ar-Zimraphel, a Boldog, a Nimloth, and a few NE and BE with sindarin- and quenya-based names that are not part of the lore.
