Hey guys, sorry if this is a really dumb sounding question but I’m a new player that never played WoW back in the day. I tried retail once during the cataclysm expansion, but I did not like it at all and couldn’t figure out how anything in the game worked. All my friends were playing WoW, so I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did since it broke my RuneScape addiction with this new addiction.
Something that I think is so cool is how there are two separate continents. I just traveled to the Eastern Kingdoms today for the first time and since there are two main factions (The Horde aka the better one and the peasant alliance which is for people not cool enough to be on the Horde) and two continents, I was thinking these continents were each dominated by a faction but I’ve noticed that the Silverpine Forest is a Horde territory. As a result, I’m completely lost now and was wondering if someone could fill me in on the overall summary of the story behind this wonderful and addicting game that’s going to ruin my life and make me wanna drop out of college during my final year to play it more often.

ur name is the answer lol
I’m unsure what you’re referring to. Do you mean that people just TRIHARD in this game nonstop?
Here: h ttps://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/template_resource/LO0VQ46XB1281555957773363.pdf . Go to page 82 there and you can read. The history of the world comprises three real-time strategy games with a couple expansions, so no one’s likely to detail it here.

There’s also a lot of good info on some of the fan wikis, remove the space between the . and com to copy the links.

The Warcraft rts games are a good start even though some of it got retconned for future expacs for classic the RTS games are perfect to get started on the lore of Classic itself

I mean, the lore is to tryhard. because it gives you the depth you require to tryhard. I only got this from the fact your name has tryhard in it.

no one knows since chris metzen changed it about 40 times.
to be fair to metzen, they stole the whole concept from warhammer (starcraft as well, from 40k) which also retcons everything every time a new edition comes out.

That guy loved to retcon.

Orcs versus humans , the humans are actually the racist ones, the orcs got magically controlled and corrupted and killed a bunch of people, but legally speaking its not your fault if youre not criminally responsible right? there were lots of nice orcs who didn’t intend to kill innocents, and some humans realized this, but essentially the endless war had already started.
there are human allies and orc allies, the sides are pretty much 100% blind to any sort of gray areas, any sort of peace talks never start to happen until like years and years into the game and even then they always get broken by some grumpy human with traditional views, or berserking orc who holds onto the 500000 year old traditions.
Don’t waste your time with ‘WoW’ lore honestly.
If WoW seems interesting then just dive into Warhammer. That is were the basic premise was lifted from. Even though they ultimately took the WoW universe in a different direction than Warhammer, it is just inferior to Warhammer.
However, Warcraft games and WoW are better games than most Warhammer games. So play WoW, but read Warhammer.

lolpandas is kind of a weak snipe though since they were added in WC3. it just should have been executed shortly after in some fashion. pandarens should have had a presence in wow launch, even if limited.
if i recall blizzard and gamesworkshop were working on the concept for a warhammer game, and there was some sort of disagreement and blizzard decided it was a good enough concept to run off of.
although id say relic has produced a better RTS game than blizzard did with the dawn of war series, and ofcourse company of heroes.
You play WoW, you create your lore. When you get that sweet epic axe you are lore in the making.
