I don’t know what their goal is, and I don’t care. I have my own goal: I want to be able to walk in my own footprints from Vanilla, for better or worse. Hopefully they understand that and leave it alone.
I didn’t. Just like when WoW first came out and they had in mind an expansion, asking what they have in mind with classic down the road. If that question bothers you, you could just ignore the thread, or perhaps in your angst make a poor attempt to be clever.
Diablo 2 hasn’t been touched in a long time, yet teach time the ladder resets. People hop on the hype train to become the first level 99, the first person with enigma, the first person to kill hell baal etc(which if you are a speed runner varies and can be done in about 8 hours).
The final goal of classic is to get a little more money out of customers who have aged out of the primary demographic by reselling them recycled content. Classic will likely be followed by a Diablo II rerelease (which, honestly, I’m surprised hasn’t already been announced. I’d predict it for this year’s Blizzcon but I assume the marquee announcement there will be the next disappointing WoW expansion. So… Blizzcon 2020? Diablo II Redux.)
The sad reality is, if you played Vanilla in '04 you’ve probably aged out of their target demographic. It’s not that they don’t want our money, they just know we’re not going to give it up as easily as a generation that was born into a world of full of microtransactions will.
I’m afraid WoW classic is the gen X/Y equivalent of those “Midway Arcade Classics” compilations that enthralled my mom 20 years ago. Unless retail utterly craters, I can’t see it making a difference.
I’m age 46 and played WoW since the start. I think classic is going to be the great equalizer. If successful it may help usher in a new breed of well designed old school MMO’s.
I’m stating that to 100% complete Vanilla world of Warcraft It would take at minimum imo 3 years. So when anyone says they have done ALL THE CONTENT, they literally haven’t scratched the surface.
You may have cleared the content that matters to you, But you sure as hell dont have all the content completed.
You would need to rank 14 all classes and tier 3 all classes. Do every single quest in the game and then do the same on the opposing faction.
Become scarab lord on every class
Own every mount on every class.
Exalted reps on all classes
I could keep this list going for a while tbh.
My goal is to keep asking what happens 3 years from now. So in order to have even the slightest chance to enjoy a thing in 2019, it is imperative that Blizzard tell us the direction for the game in 2022. And the same goes for 2020. If they want me to play, I need to know the content plan for 2023. Want me to play a blizzard game in 2021? You guessed it, tell me what is going to happen in 2024 first. Because it matters. Because I am such a nervous nellie I am incapable of experience a video game now without knowing what I will be doing 3 years from now.
Relax, friend. Sorry the post triggered you. You’re making way too many assumptions, which says more about you than about my post.
Personally, I’ve turned off leveling at 100 on this character so I can finish experiencing that content with it, which shows that I’m not in any hurry to get to the end of content and wonder what’s next.
So your triggered assumption that people would only ask that because they need to know the end falls flat.
Some are wondering if they’re going to let classic stay as it is with no expansions, or if they’re going to try to re-release expansions, but modifying them to stay in the flavor of the classic WoW.
Again sorry you got triggered. But I must say I love these triggered posts.
It won’t also be even fun if they release expansions, but remove modifications so it remains the classic gameplay style?
I wonder how this is even a question … Then I remember that not everyone is a debilitating altaholic like myself. Honestly, Classic takes a LONG time … Even if you have no job/kids/school or any other IRL requirements, and you can steadily grind it out. It’s going to take a long time to level to 60, then a LONG LONG LONG time to farm money, level professions, get geared, etc… And then they are releasing new-old content in their phasing system. Adding the other raids over time and more content as it goes on, which will likely be dragged out to make it last.
So once that is all DONE… What am I going to do? Well, I am going to make another character and do it all over again. And when I’m not making and leveling alts, I’ll be PvPing. Because my goodness, PvP in Vanilla and TBC is just out of this world (literally in the case of the Burning Crusade ;3 ) Like, I am horribly bored of retail PvP … I am so excited to go back to a time where I hit someone and I actually see their health move. And when people had to deal with CCs… Now CC hardly means anything, everyone has a solution to get out of everything. Yawn.
