What's the final goal of classic?

Classic may very well end up being fun, but when you get to max level and have done all content, are they going to “re-release” expansions, while making sure to not change the basic mechanics that makes classic more interesting than regular WoW?

Edit: Just like when they released WoW to begin with, they had in mind a possible expansion, hence wondering what path this “classic” version of WoW may be taking. Oddly, some seem to take offense at this question. Go figure LOL.

  • Protect the IP of Vanilla from Private Servers.
  • Provide a museum piece that allows people to play Classic whenever, like dusting off your old copy of Zelda.
  • Prop up failing subs with something they know will get them a decent chunk for 2+ years
  • Test out whether there really is a market for the “old school” MMO like OSRS claims.

(Notice how none of that except the last is concerned with “what next”)

What happens when it’s all done ?

We come to the forums and cry “FRESH”

Create a new realm and we get to do it all over again.
There are players that like to do that.
Mindset is “This time I’m going to …”

Please inform me in 3 years when you have “COMPLETED ALL THE CONTENT”

Get real.

The point of a game is to waste your time in a fun way, if the game entertains me that long, AGAIN, then it’s a successful game in more ways than most “successful” games.

So in 3 years, when you have completed all the content, what’s blizzard’s goal with this game? To re-release new version of the first expansion, perhaps making sure to instead keep the classic wow features?

This is the correct answer.

My ideal situation is to set up Classic server option that is resets every year. Seasonal classic servers essentially.

If blizzard wants to go into tbc that’s their choice. But they should give options for character transfers off the classic server to the tbc server to “Continue” if that’s your goal.

At the end of the day I believe Wotlk will be the last ( dead xpac ) they decide to redo. At that point they can do w/e they want. Classic+ , season for each xpac, the doors are wide open at that point. The game will be well over 20 years old and the Massive population that got this Classic project started will be Sated.

Does there need to be a goal?

This is the problem with gamers nowadays - they cant simply enjoy the journey.

What was the goal in vanilla? When I started playing it was because all my friends were playing… I didn’t even know what raids or dungeons were… or PvP.

It just fascinated me that it was an open world game where you could decide where you wanted to go.

Oh I enjoy the journey - it’s why I’ve disabled leveling to stay at 100 to do Draenor content until it’s done.

Just curious about what they’ll do just like they originally did after so much time goes by - re-release new expansion, or (what I saw someone else say, which sounds interesting), act like it’s a new season, wipe all characters and start again at level 1.

Money, money money money!

I don’t think that anyone can answer that. I don’t even think it is appropriate to ask at this point. The game isn’t even released yet and there is at least two years worth of content.

Let’s see what we got with Classic before planning what next.

hopefully blizz dont trickle down the few content vanilla have over 3 years.

I won’t be able to stomach 50 MC clear…

This is the correct answer.

If classic has a strong player base i would say they might make entirely new patches for Vanilla wow that were never made before just to expand on it. Might be its own universe and it will keep most of the core mechanics that made Vanilla fun. No new level cap just new tier and dungeons/bosses. maybe new abilities here and there.
