With all the ups and downs to WOW over the years, how has mail armor remained so consistently bad compared to all the other armor types? I’ve heard plenty of content creators repeatedly bring up mail armor, and other players as well. This is a serious question, is it because mail armor has until DF only been hunters and shamans so there wasn’t enough noise around the bad armor sets?

No armor is bad
Mail armor is almost always ugly. I agree with this. Hunter stuff in particular (what im most experienced with anyway.) is mostly awful.

Caz the devs dont even know what mail amour is. They think its a few thing at the same time none of them

Is it animal hides?
Is it plate with some bits taken off?

As have been said for many years they should remove mail (move the items to what they look like and keep the transmogs for the classes. Like a “i was here before it changed” ). Move shaman to plate (it was there before) and hunters to leather (like they should of been) . evokers can go leaaher aswell. Dosnt really matter caz u cant see any amour on them, lol

Mail is a tricky type to depict. Too heavy looking and it seems like plate. Too light looking and it seems like leather. I mean it’s oftentimes made from animal parts like leather armor, just from the more reptilian beasties.
That said, I don’t think it’s anywhere close to as bad as some people make out. There’s always been some good stuff out there in every expansion. Now more than ever. Have you seen the mail set for the black dragon armor coming in 10.1? It’s beautiful!

It is hard to fine good Mail armor, yes.
Especially Boots and you’re better off just hiding shoulders as they rarely look good.

I don’t like the shoulders due to the wings stick out. I want a version without that.
To each their own I suppose. Mail armor in this game is personally my absolute favorite.
I think cloth needs more work. Down with tube dresses.

Fair enough. But audacious shoulders is clearly the theme they’re going for with all the sets. Not just mail.

To bad the “good stiff” can be counted on one hand of a clumsy woodcutter, making most mail classes wearing the same transmogs
It dose make it easy to find good lookin gear tho. Can just look at there gear. trail of style is also a good spot to perv… i mean… “look” at other peoples transmogs, lol
Cloth does need better pants and boots. Too many dresses and robes.

The hunter sets are often goofy. Recently the new set has toes.
…though there’s an interesting text for the shoulder.
As much as she wished it was so, the Hellforged was never truly alone.
edit: The set doesn’t appear to resemble the weapons.

This is exactly it. I mean, mail simply has a few appearances because of what it is. A real mail “helmet” is just a coif. Add anything to it, it isn’t strictly mail anymore. In game it just occupies the space between hide-based armor and metal plate-based armor, which ends up just essentially looking like plate with gaps. WoW seems to define it more by the gaps in plate coverage than the actual material.

Yeah, the toe boots are freakin’ weird. Other than that, I don’t think the set looks too bad. Plain, but it looks like a hunter decked out in a good kill.

If nothing else they should have just allowed mail useers to Mog with Either Leather or Plate because its already basically both.
I wish mail armor looked like…actual mail?
I don’t think there’s a singular set that looks just like average chain mail. Even armor called chain mail. It doesn’t even fit!
That sure is some nice looking plater armor…
i would love being able to mog with leather, it looks 100% better then mail
