What's the big deal with player housing?

You should check RP realms. People spend most of their time in cities.
I know people meme on it, but I always recommend people checking Moon Guard - Alliance, Stormwind is ALWAYS crowded. Even more at night.

Every district, filled with people. It tracks back to what I said before, people enjoy it to make an expression of selves or a representation of an idea, and then they bring friends over. It is better having it, than not having it. Who doesn’t care about it, doesn’t need to engage it.

FFXIV is pretty much like that, Housing in the Crystal Datacenter (Which is more oriented for RP) are basically impossible to get one. While in the PvE/PvP Datacenters? There are plenty of houses vacant or even abandoned/not-decorated by the owner.

It is whatever you make of it. If you don’t like it, you should not be forced to use it.

If you do like it, then awesome… you will have something else to do in game.

Apparently you’ve never played FF XIV ARR. Player housing is fantastic in that game. THere is literally a zone of guild houses where everyone can hang out and do things. And you can decorate your houses by buying things in game.

I doubt this will be on FFXIV’s level, but it’s a start. I think itll be cool if they did it where guilds can visit other guilds’ houses and chill like goldshire

hahahaha right

Could add a lot to the old zones too, if they do like they did with pet battles and have things for housing in the old dungeons and raids and such for us to farm.

A system strictly for the RPers… most won’t care or use it but sparingly, unless there are more RPers than I think.

You would be surprised.

Quite possibly, also good chance that I’m right.

Now one can finally feel like the truly “live” in WoW because they’ll actually have a real home that is “their’s” in the game.

For 20 years we had to make-do with what we had. Heh.

Next goal, imo: VR mode.

This is why I wanted player housing but I don’t think they’re going to do that so now I don’t care.

It’s too bad. That’d be hilarious fun.

I also enjoy collecting stuff, and having a house means I can decorate my house with stuff I’ve collected. And also collect furniture and stuff.

More stuff to collect, more ways to show it off and enjoy it. Does that sound appealing to you OP?

dont see the point myself, just sitting in a virtual home staring at the walls ( to the people that say ‘well i could do it up how i want and add things in’ just remember what happened with the bank (you might come home to your virtual place one day only to find you have been robbed and its empty )
blizz is not producing much ‘new’ content in its releases as it so i dont see much point wasting assets /time build something you just sit in and look at the walls.

The key to get your Player House should be a rare drop from Great Vault, but not soulbound, that way those that don’t care about player housing can sell the key to those who got the same belt 4 weeks in a row.

For me, it’s entirely about having a new way to explore player expression. Being able to make a space that reflects my character is great for the RP in the RPG. Plus, I spend way too much time in transmog, so I’ll probably go crazy with designing a house.

Plus, it’s casual content. Sometimes it’s fun to just vibe out and do something that doesn’t take that much brain power.

Nobody knows yet, how player housing at WOW will look like. So we can not argue what we like or dislike about it.

That being said,

building a home has always been essential to MMO´s, WOW is the first that did not ship with it or added it after a few years and I do believe that this is one reason why so many moved to MMO´s that do.

The idea of housing is the social aspect, like at garrisons where you could invite friends to your base, decorate it and the like. At the same time, it is a point to retreat to and grow a collection at. We have so many achievements, mounts, pets … but no place to put them, but in our invisible magic hat, that we always pull them out from.

I am not sure if housing by Blizzard will be fun, everything non raiding they added, was neglected pretty fast after, as the entire WOW is for the 1%. So I do not get my hopes to high. It would not suprise me one bit, if we just get some room somewhere, that serves no real purpose and that our achievements and collections remain in our magical hat.

Think they are trying to once again take things from FF 14?

Not having to stand in am overcrowded city with obnoxiois people spamming toys or putting their mounts on top of you on purposes while repeating sounds? Yes, I would like my own place to go afk if I’m tabbed out. I’m just hoping is more customizable than the garrisons were. Yea, you got to choose building and the different monuments but, thats really it. I have an AH/Mail/Repair and Transmog mount so there would be no reason to leave there except to do dungeons/raid and open world content.

A lot of different MMORPG have player housing. New World had obtainable housing though, it was horribly expensive and the gold grind took forever. Wow is finally realizing its a part of the game alot of players are looking for now that so many other games have it.
