I play wow primarily for collecting (mounts mostly) but I’ve never understood the appeal of player housing even though I seem like the primary demographic.
What are people excited for? Why is it interesting? What’s the killer feature - hanging up my thunderfury?
well in other games, its just fun, another thing to do for rewards but also its fun decorating and making a building with whatever you want, for example someone posted a few days ago here about a person who made the naxxramas necropolis in gw2
Blizzard will definitely be using the cash shop to sell all sorts of furniture. It may not come right away but it is in the plan because if the business is not generating revenue out of player housing, then the expansion may be considered a fail.
Also, it would be a great opportunity for them to sell real life items in Blizzard Gear that reflect the player housing in game. You have one right at your home just as it reflects what you have in game.
It adds something to the game other than “killkillkill.”
If you’ve ever played something like Animal Crossing (I’ve loved those games since the Gamecube edition), it really appeals to that kind of gameplay. But stitching it into larger game like WoW - it enhances the gameplay loop. It allows for more interesting loot and quest rewards. It opens up room for professions to have a bit “more” going on.
The ability to upgrade and expand your house, along with seeing your decor come together over time, also adds a more concrete sense of progression. It adds a sense of accomplishment to continually iterate on and expand your home.
That hadn’t occurred to me. It should have, seeing how cynical I am, suppose I was blinded by the possibility of having a corral where all my mounts can frolic.
