Wind Serpent is the best for BFD overall. Cat/Raptor will edge WS out ever so slightly DPS wise on most bosses except Ghamoo-ra where there is a massive difference because of the bosses armor, so WS comes out ahead despite only being better on the one fight really.

3 slots in stable though, so WS + 1.2 cat + 2.0 cat is best currently (1.2 for PvP, 2.0 for FS melee weaving)

dont read this guy

wind serpent for pvp

cat for pve

wind serpent doesnt leverage kill command if you dont have enough focus to spam 3 bites in 30 seconds.

cats are more consistent on pvp damage thx to this

ws nukes faster because they use spell power and scaled much more than p atk skills, but on raids u wont see that difference

https://vanilla.warcraftlogs.com/character/us/living-flame/charrúa your highest parse is a 33 and your lowest is a 9. Additionally every single top parsing hunter runs WS in BFD.

I dont parse, I carry an alt guilds run.

check ur damage with one and other pet, i dont give a f about logs because I dont minmax a lvl 25 dungeon lol

Then why are you commenting in a thread asking about the best hunter pet if you don’t care enough to be informed

i dont minmax, and i dont def sweat on this raid. Im missing like the whole set and not even BiS. why would i stress out on parses??

i do it while im doing my online duties and never failed it.

seems like u care too much for entitlement in a game due to rankings

why would u bring a pet that like 50% of the mobs are immune to the highest lvl strike

u can easily check how much of ur total dmg is done by one or other pet

https://vanilla.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/2007#class=Hunter&spec=Marksmanship
This is the top hunter logs for full BFD clears.
Notice how the very best hunter has a WS? Notice how out of his total DPS of 233.9 the WS LB accounts for 51.7 of that, or roughly 22% of his overall DPS?
Notice how his pet never uses Bite a single time?

Idk what to tell u, pets do 30% of my damage with cats and 25% with WS with bite4

if u dont use bite on WS, u r missing kill command

what would u use instead of KC? FLANKING AND WEAVE MELEE? sry caps

Yes, optimally you would Flanking and melee weave which is what the top hunters do. I have 90+ parses on all bosses and I don’t melee weave at all, I just run WS and Sniper Training rune. KC is bad.

Does it’s attack speed matter for PvE and what about levelling?

A murder has taken place.

I didnt spec for pve and I def dont parse like this is the end of the game.

I didnt even know that gamepage was able to record this without my consent. I would parse if I wanted to, but not auto recording craps with solo farming spec on greens and blues lol

not even funny to be so invested on the highest number

well op, u got ur answer. if u melee swing get flanking and wind serpent

if u r chad like me, smoke a blunt while u raid and do 20 less DPS but enjoy the raid

all damages are normalized by atk speed

its kinda the same, I think slower cats generate more aggro, thats all

anyways, if the mobs doesnt resist the lightning damage, ws tends to be better.

WS for the lvl 30 infernals from ashenvale it sucks. its way better the cat.

WS to kill wyverns lvl 29 is great.

I enjoy the raids just fine. I enjoy challenging myself to do better instead of being dead weight. Again, I don’t even run FS or melee weave and have 90+ on all bosses. But I’ll help you out a bit because looking at your Aku’mai parse hurt, a lot.

  • Start pressing Multi Shot. On cooldown. You had 5 casts casts of Multi in a 3:24 fight - you should have at least 10-15 there. On my 98 parse I had 7 casts of MS over 1:45 (10 sec CD, 0.5s cast time, and no reason to use it during intermission). MS is the highest damaging ability per mana spent.

  • Consider pressing Serpent Sting less. You never want to not have enough mana to Multi because you serpent stinged one too many times. I had a 77.86% uptime on serpent in my log (not using during intermission) and it did 5.0 of my total DPS, next to multishots 13.6, yet cost half the mana of multi.

  • Stop pressing Arcane Shot. Remove it from your bars. You only use arcane shot if you aren’t going to OOM from casting it as it doesn’t scale off of AP. And with a 3:24 kill time, you’re going to OOM a long time before the fight ends. None of your fights are short enough to justify using it. It also is doing on average 2.5 of your DPS yet costing ~900 of your mana per fight. Stop.

  • Turn off Bite on your WS. It’s griefing his damage and is the reason you think cat is better likely. Optimally you turn LB off, send pet into melee range of boss, then turn LB back on. But don’t do that (it’s extremely niche for a slight DPS upgrade).

I’m just saying don’t come in here and try to correct me when I have to tell you not only how to play your class, but how to play your pet as well.

Also.

Yes, in a simple sense.

No. Threat generation is the same. Faster pets simply attack more often, so their only niche use is PvP for spell pushback on casters (and technically will be better in P2 due to frenzy)

You want a slower pet if you are using FS as FS scales off your pets top end damage as well, which is higher with a 2.0 pet.

But wouldn’t a 1.2 cat get more threat in 5 seconds than a 2.4 cat, theory wise, 4 attacks against 2? I thought normalisation didn’t happen in SoD.

Why are you even commenting in this thread then? :joy:

Yes it would. In raids you don’t care about your pet getting threat though. For leveling, the 1.2 cat is probably best. For PvP, use the wind serpent, its ability to hit from range cannot be beat by a fast cat, IMO.

In raids the 2.0 cat hits harder when you use flanking strike due to the scaling, which is why it’s the recommended raid pet currently if you’re melee weaving using flanking strike.

However, the wind serpent dps is very close to the 2.0 cat, and as others said, on turtle boss the wind serpent does SIGNIFICANTLY more damage. Problem with wind serpent, if you’re melee weaving, there can be problems sometimes where the serpent stays at range using lightning breath so it does not even hit the target when you go in for flanking strike.

TLDR: both are close enough in dps right now that you can use a 2.0 cat or raptor or the wind serpent and put up 90+ parses.
