What's stopping you from playing FFXIV?

• The FF combat and combat animations are borky. Ive played off and on for some years and even went to check it out this month. I was reminded after just 4 fights why I really don’t like the combat. Its clunky or janky or something not right. It doesnt feel intuitive at all. Some combat stances look strange.

• The FF graphics are washed out; so much is bland or similar and it didn’t feel like enough variety. Here in Wow, I can go to dark and spooky zones, jungle zones, desert zones, forest zones, snowy zones, and even one zone that has one of the most beautiful cities ever in it (Suramar).

• Very low to no social side in my experiences in FF. Yeah some people play the game with friends. My friends play wow or eso. Going in with no friends and players not talking because of some rule on chat, I found myself in dead quiet quest zones and city ones had mostly crafting spam in chat. I never had anyone reach out to me as a new player or returning on. The people I DMd to say I liked their glamour or ask a question, 90% never responded. Putting things like helpful and kind in my super small player search info box thing didn’t help at all. As a new player and then returning player, I felt more alone than I’ve ever felt in Wow.

• The FF story is boring and drags. Its not engaging, it didn’t grab me, and it seemed convoluted at various points. I cant even say what happened at the end of the first expac story wise because I spam mashed the button to skip or advance the story. I didnt enjoy the story at all.

• Not enough race/appearance diversifying FF. Most body types are similar. Here in wow you can be a human or tall elf or short elf… but you can be a fierce worgen (who will get a tail before long, I know it)! Or a panda or mechanical gnome or a vulpera or curvy/or bulky goat from space! You can be a savage Orc or a wicked Undead. The race variety in Wow is great. In FF, I can be a human with cat ears/tail, human bunny, human dragon, bunny human and so on.

• So much cutscenes in FF. There were times I clicked to go into one and I walked away from my pc to get dinner. Or start my laundry. I like well thought out and engaging cutscenes. Ive found some of those in wow. In FF most were convoluted except one.

• The FF Main Character NPCs. I didn’t really care much about any of them. The game or story didn’t do much to make me care or convince me to. They were just npcs who needed me to be a gopher or go fight something and then I didn’t feel that the player is needed past that, so to speak. In Wow, I cried big tears over Varian at the start of Legion. Silverpine made me actually give a damn and become curious about Sylvanas (I still want justice though!). Watching Anduin suddenly becoming King and trying to rule, its been good to see. I feel indignation over some deaths too and how they happened. The Teldrassil quest where we had a short time to save anyone, it makes me tear up even now. We tried to save them, we tried hard and still it wasn’t enough. Its pretty obvious with these descriptions how the Wow story has moved me and THATS what I want with an MMO.

• FF class diversity isn’t enough for me. With the classes I tried, it seems like they add a gimmick later to how a class plays. Tank classes are tanks period. Theres no dps spec to them. Theres no tank spec for some dps classes and so on. In wow I adore druid and Warlock. I worked hard for my lunarwing. I really like Warlock class fantasy. I like Warlock skills and I like druid combat.

This is just some of my reasons based off my experiences.

Yeah, but that overlay parser is a nightmare to use.

Didn’t think it possible but it’s even more boring than wow. And it lacks wow charm.

What’s stopping you from playing FFXIV?

I am not interested in trying out FFXIV even for free because I am still having fun with all of WoW’s pre-Shadowlands content. Every minute I would be spending in FFXIV could be a minute I was investing in my beloved WoW characters instead.

If some people want to split their time between both games or play FFXIV exclusively, that’s totally fine. I just wish the FFXIV-only people would stop pushing it here. The current always-in-your-face spam about it is having the opposite effect than intended and is making it even less likely I would ever want to try out that game.

I keep a trial account in FF14 with a lvl 60. It lets me log in and remember why i dont play it.

0 interest in an addon-less mmo that polices player behavior to the point where everyone is all stepford wives.

hard pass, sounds awful.

I could look and see I wasnt going to get any abilities consistenly… me walking around killing stuff consisted of me press 1 then 2… 3 to buff a 2 every 60 seconds.

In comparison on WoW… a level 17 Rogue I’d already have Sinister strike, Eviscerate, Cheap shot, Stealth, Sprint, Kick, Ambush, Crimson Vial, SLice and dice, Instant Poison, Sap, Kidney shot.

To go from that roughly 30 minutes into a WoW playerbase to being hours into FFXIV and just pressing 1 2 , 1 2, 2 and seeing my future spells and just getting niche spells like an ability that if I used it to kil something it drops more loot…

whats stopping me let me see here, everything of that franchise i hate and always have since the first one came out ages ago.

You speak of slow start but yet you are a blood elf priest in classic? Did you buy gold and then proceeded to buy boosts or what? The start of FF14 isn’t slower then vanilla. It’s only slower then retail, still faster then classic.

Disgusting.

Server first BElf Priest to 60 and 70.

No gold, no boosts. Only had one run with someone through SFK and BFD (one each) - and they were with friends who just were bored with a 60 from classic and offered it out en-masse to people for free.

But here’s the difference. ARR is easily the weakest part of the content of Shadowbringers atm. Because it’s so slow. It’s just a rat- race to get to current content… much like current Retail.

They shortened the MSQ line and left out some of the lore from it before. So, now it even feels more like a rat-race.

ARR is same as going through Vanilla. Then it’s super fast with Armory bonus. It’s a one time deal because story. End of story, bad categorization.

P.S: grats on server first

Vanilla - leveling is PART of the content and is part of the experience. Low level in FFXIV locks you out of a large number of things - house buying, expansions, certain quests, even areas to unlock Glams and Dying if you picked the wrong starting job and so on.

I mean, I understand defending your favorite game. As you can tell, I’ve played FFXIV. I was one of the first players to finish the first bit against Hades when the expac dropped. I quit shortly after that, but I don’t have to defend something I didn’t enjoy over something I did.

It’s pretty simple stuff in this regard. Both experiences are different - one was more enjoyable and one wasn’t. While FFXIV picks up in its end-game, that doesn’t mean its slow, early-game start isn’t any less annoying or tedious.

Nothing. I’m playing right now. Letting my wow sub lapse. FFXIV does MMO aspects MUCH better than wow. No crappy systems on top of systems. No borrowed power. Not time gating of flying. Wow sucks now. FFXIV does not.

As I explain to most people - it does SOME aspects better (a number more nowadays), but some things worse. The sense of community there isn’t really great unless you’re in a guild - and it was based off that with their equivalent of group-finder built in from the start.

Also, RP servers there have a bit of community, just like here. The difference is, WoW started with a massive community and, eventually, introduced group-finder. We made friendships here that have lasted for years before the concept of community was dumpstered.

This Final Fantasy garbage is still going on? They have an official forum so there is absolutely no reason to be posting about the game in the World of Warcraft General Discussion forums unless you’re trolling. If you have something to post about FF, then post it in the FF forums because anybody that was seriously contemplating playing that game would be looking there instead of the WoW forums. Do you advertise Runescape on the Minecraft forums?

If you want to advertise a game, make a YouTube video or a social media post. These are the World of Warcraft forums and as such these posts about FF do not belong here. Remember to flag these posts because they’re just spam mail on the forums. The people making these posts are always either crying about their anger at WoW, or trolling.

Housing is optional. First of all. Nobody should join expecting it to be granted.

There’s nothing locked since the story makes you unlock said content listed. It’s a good introduction form and makes it great for newer players to learn to navigate around and what UI tools do.

Now I won’t compare this to classic for you because clearly you know done and re done it multiple times to the point you know your drill probably almost closed eyes in wow.

But new players don’t like WoW. The new isle is okay but throwing people through BFA is a mistake. It’s a terrible experience, feels soulless.

The addond make the game redundants like a diablo 3 season with auto accept auto turn in or just pick your reward when chance given.

FF14 has a great pace even for ARR. And personally, as a legacy player. I quite enjoy ARR.

Blizzard did send out an E-mail survey asking people if they were gonna be playing FFXIV recently. This could be related.

Nowhere did I say I didn’t enjoy FFXIV. Because I have a gripe with it or an annoyance doesn’t mean I hate a game.

Don’t get so enthralled with something that any time someone has a criticism, it’s like they’re kicking your lost child.

If someone insults WoW and has a valid criticism, I agree with the criticism.

I’m not enthralled at all. I think you’ve been quite down to earth as a poster overall. Words don’t mix well with feelings, this isn’t an attack.

Yeah, I called out a lot of Systemlands’ problems at the start. I got flamed for it both in-game from my posts on the forums and on the forums.

Now, people are making the complaints I found two weeks in because I typically no-life content and tend to look forward at problems.
