What's one good thing that WoD gave us?

For me it was the soundtrack. So many beautiful pieces of music. My favorite is Light in the Darkness.

WoD did a LOT of things very, very, very poorly and it is without a shadow of a doubt this game’s worst expansion by far. You will not convince me that Shadowlands or BFA was worse.

The raids, the leveling zones, the opening cinematic, and the soundtrack are not among those things. An expansion that had stuff to do at max-level besides raiding would be considered incredible if it had WoD’s raids and leveling, but three excellent raids and what is almost universally considered to be the best leveling experience in this game’s history cannot carry an expansion as fundamentally bad as WoD was.

And three excellent raids and the best leveling experience in this game’s history couldn’t, and will never be able to, erase the biggest blemish of all: the fact that even Blizzard themselves gave up on WoD. They marketed the living daylights out of WoD, it had a wildly successful launch, and they dropped the ball so hard after you hit max level after Nagrand that the game never fully recovered thereafter and they deemed it better to jump ship than to try salvaging it. Legion, BFA, and Shadowlands are hit or miss in many departments and all have massive flaws, but at least Blizzard actually saw them through; WoD left its mark in WoW’s history as the only expansion Blizzard threw in the towel for, and when you take a look at just how much cut content that expansion had you’ll very quickly realize just how much of a disappointment WoD was compared to what was promised of it.

While the actual PvP and class design left a lot to be desired, the PvP gearing system was basically the culmination of what they had been working towards since Cata. By s3 of WoD it really felt like they had perfected it. It was extremely easy to get into PvP, barrier to entry was extremely low and getting to BiS gear was simple and available to anyone that wanted it.

The sad part of that was that the classes kinda sucked after being pruned coming out of MoP and there was a massive infestation of bots and scripters that was basically as bad as it ever got before Blizzard finally shut down the main culprit. Teams in BGs were sometimes half or more just bots running back and forth and even rated PvP had plenty of cheaters, especially RBGs.

The gearing system was really good though, and it looks like they are basically bringing it back for DF so I’m happy about that.

WoD gave us the best leveling experience of any expansion. Nothing before or since has even come close to that level of amazeballs. Leveling in WoD was unique, intriguing, immersive, and just incredibly fun.

mission tables
/dodges rotten fruit.
guys I’m joking!
What I actually meant was pathfinder…

but for real, Mythic difficulty in both dungeons and raids.

technically mythic raids was MoP, but WoD was the first expansion with all raids having a mythic difficulty.

I’d also argue the HD models were a good thing, I know plenty of people don’t like them though.

The general aesthetic and presentation for sure. It might even be one of the best expansions in that regard.

The single Frostfire ridge ending cinematic is better than any cinematic Shadowlands gave us.

And that’s not even to mention the reveal cinematic…

I dunno, I really enjoyed afterlives: Bastion

though I suppose that’s promotional material, not an actual game cinematic.

If we are going to be uber-technical, mythic was warlords pre-parch.

My Garrison. Didn’t need to go out into the world and encounter people just to farm for reagents.

I mean gods, could you imagine if this was an MMO or something? With multiple players? Would be absolute hell.

Blackrock Foundry. Probably my favorite raid to date. Also PvP was pretty decent.

As a pvper WoD was a good expansion.

Fixed that for you, BFA and SL are %100 worse than WoD. May have lacked as much content but I don’t count shtty content as content. Quality over quanity anyday.

My Garrison. I still use it to this day as my solid base of operations. Any toon I have that has crafting professions has full Tier 3 Garrisons, complete with AH vendor so I never, ever have to set foot in Org unless I am setting a newbie up with bags.

Would have been sweet if they’d let us place the Garrison wherever we wanted, in whatever zone we wanted, but my Garrisons are still extremely useful.

And yeah, I decked mine out for Halloween mid August.

Reagent tab.

I agree. But unfortunately Blizzard took the wrong lessons from it and abandoned what was working just fine. But reagent tab will be a forever thing.

The story while questing was actually pretty decent. If not decent, then at least fun. Then it just…died at max level, like the rest of the expansion. The Belfie patch was also appreciated, but not for the reasons some may think. I had been hunting Aeonaxx for years and I finally came across him that very evening because everyone was busy making blood elves and taking selfies. So yeah, thanks for the worst patch I had ever seen at that point! I’d imagine others got lucky with some rare spawns that day as well.
