What's going on with retail WoW PVP development recently?

WoW patch notes for the last couple of months:

  • Season of Discovery hotfixes
  • Plunderstorm tuning
  • Tadpoles event
  • Noblegarden event
  • New trading post items
  • Cataclysm testing
  • WoW Classic Era and Hardcore fixes
  • We have a new experiment for you PVE players in 10.2.7, just wait…

What is going on? Why the constant focus on gimmicks?

We haven’t had anything meaningful in Retail WoW for months, let alone attention to PVP!

When will be the day when I wake up, check MMO Champion with my morning coffee, and see some dev article or blog post about PVP, or PVP tuning changes, or just about anything at this point?

Why not rated Blitz already in S4, didn’t you test enough?
Why not add 3v3 flex solo q in S4, along with solo shuffle?

If the plan is to go on like this till the end of the expansion, there will be no one left to play…

If you don’t do anything, we’re about to have the worst and most deflated PVP season in WoW history

Because they’re fresh and played

If a patch/season is deemed bad everybody quits regardless of changes made mid-season

I’m happy for whoever is enjoying this stuff, but it doesn’t cut it for me personally. I’d like more attention to be paid to retail PVP.

I think that mechanically WoW retail PVP is amazing. The gameplay feels excellent, classes feel engaging, with a lot of interesting abilities and interactions, build diversity is good overall for most specs. In this respect, PVP has never felt better. I can’t wait to finish work and do some PVP

Basically, the hard work is done. All of the above takes years to achieve. What’s left is the “small” things:

  • communication (most of all)
  • incentivization (apart from the pure enjoyment of PVP)
  • consistent tuning
  • better integration of new players in PVP

It’s like the devs did all the heavy lifting and gave up at the finishing line? Why? Why not “nourish” PVP and develop it?

If they want to create a Fortnite, fair enough, but that has nothing to do with WoW PVP as far as I’m concerned

Check those figures. I’m the CEO of blizzard and I see you’re still paying a subscription. Mathematically you are a satisfied customer.

would you want to deal or cater to all the elitist pricks on these forums? I know I wouldn’t. now, imagine, you’re a multi billion dollar gaming organization with the world’s most popular game in human history.

is it really a surprise?

not for me, no, but I’ve been wrong before so maybe TWW has some sweet PvP revamps/updates

Don’t forget the revamped Valentines day quests!!1 :man_facepalming:

The people working on the game are no long the people who originally designed it or people who play it. I wouldn’t be surprised if lots of decisions are coming directly from the accounting department. They look at numbers, not the overall experience.

This entire expansion its been obvious they are more concerned with what’s coming next than making what we have better or even palatable. Specs being overpowered for months at time and some specs barely scraping by. It’s sad to see.

I don’t disagree, but what is the window? As in, how long are players give it until they give up? I’d say it’s at least 8-12 weeks. The very start of this expansion they had really steady changes. If anything, it felt like it was too much. Then it just stopped. Maybe it was at that point that the next expansion development was in full swing.

So do the players.

Players are looking at sales numbers? Interesting.

Holiday events bad because I have to kill mob more than once.

Plunderstorm bad because rep takes more than 11 minutes

Season bad because CR not high enough.

Etc.

You hit :dart: pvp taking a backseat to WWI

I don’t mind since they said pvp is going be very different

Plus I am going enjoy cata for as long as it stays active and fun ( 2 months) and the 10 hour queue times

There was some context being lost.

I don’t think so.

That’s the context. I’m referring to the numbers as seen from the vantage point of the accounting department.

And I’m saying most people treat this game the same way

I’d say most people are concerned with the overall experience, not numbers.

I disagree and circle back around to this post.

Experience is secondary to efficiency.

Unfortunately true

Classic proved this
SL covenants proved this

In what forum did you put your first 6000 posts, since this makes it obvious you are new to the arena forum

Why are you so creepy? Do you need to respond on every comment I make? It’s seriously weird man.
